Mr. and Mrs. George Gram have returned home with friends in Rev. W. A. pulpit in the Church, Exeter, on Sunday morning last, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hudson, of Forest spent the week-end with rela­ tives in town. They were accompan­ ied home by the former’s mother Mrs. Thos. Hudson, who will visit there for a few weeks. Services in our local churches were well attended on Sunday last At the United Church Rev. A. Sin­ clair occupied the pulpit and Rally' Day wa^observed. At the morning service a children’s choir led in the service of song and a duet was ren­ dered by Bobby Hess and Carey Joynt. At the Carmel Presbyterian Church Rev. Neil 'Miller, of London delivered very inspiring addresses The Young People’s League of the United Church held their first meet­ ing of the season on Monday even­ ing last with the president, Dr Smillie in the chair. After the open­ ing exercises Scripture Lesson was read Rev. 123 solo piano solo by Miss Eleanor Fisher A duet was given by Mrs. Hess and Dr. Smillie after which the topic was given by Mr. Sinclair followed by a solo by Dr. Smillie. Games were then indulged was served. Death The death of his sister Wednesday last of Mr. Joseph Kaiser after a short illness. The deceased was born in York Twp. 80 years ago and haj been a resident of Saskat­ chewan for a number of years. He came to Hensall last April to make his home with his sister here and enjoyed fairly good health until a few weeks ago when he began to decline. He leaves to mourn his loss one son, Mr, John Kaiser, of Detroit three sisters, Mrs. Maaaugh, Flint; Mrs. Zuefle, of Hensall and Mrs Sharpe, of Seaforth; three brothers Brigham, of Clinton; John of De­troit* and Albert of Saskatchewan. His wife predeceased him some years ago. The funeral took place from the home of his sister on King St. The' Welfare Youth Club Carmel Presbyterian church banquet on Monday evening was well attended. After the a sing song was rendered followed by an opening address by the presi­ dent, Miss Mabel Workman after which several selections were given by the orchestra, A toast was then made to the King and responded by all singing the National Anthem; toast to the church was made by Miss Blanche Mustard and responded to by Mr. Young; toast to the club by Jim Bengough and responded to by Beryl Pfaff Mrs. Young by sponded to by of the Kintail Hazel Thompson and this was foll­ owed by Rev. Young and W. A. Mac- Laren. A very inspiring address was (given by Rev. Mr. McDonnell, of Lucknow, on “The Great Task Be­ fore Us” aftei* which the meeting closed with a hymn and prayer. Council Meeting The regular meeting of the village Council was held on Monday evening in the Council Chamber. All mem­ bers being present except Councillor Mickle. Minutes of the last meeting were read. Petty & Jones that the minutes be adopted as read. Carried. Sidney McArthur appeared as » delegate from the Legion re Remem­ brance Day Observance also asking for a grant towards the cost of a band to lead to parade on said day., iSpencer and Jones: that the Reeve issue a proclamation urging the cit­ izens to observe Remembrance Day Nov. Talk and lesson was given by the President. “My Best Prayer” a reading, was given by Miss Mary Herdman. Miss Lavona Cooper led in prayer. Miss Mary Johns read “Teach Me to Pray.” hymn the meeting was the benediction. The Mission Circle monthly meeting on. September 27th at the home of Miss Marjorie Delbridge with Mrs. Ward Hern in charge and ten members were present to answer roll call, the subject being “Harvest.” Minutes were read and approved. In the evening the ser­ vice in the Evangelical church was withdrawn, and Rev. Mr. Sippell, the pastor, was present and asssisted in the service, ideal weather conditions prevailed. The regular meeting of the Cred- ifon Women’s Institute was held on October 4th with the president oc­ cupying the chair. After singing the Ode, repeating the Lord’s Pray­ er, a song was sung ’’My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.” The minutes ol the previous meeting were read and adopted. Roll call was answered by donation for relief to which a num­ ber responded, also a new member was added to the roll. Delegates were appointed for the convention tc be held at London on October 31st Nov. 1 and 2, Mrs. M. Telfer and Mrs. E. Lawson. Note change Oi date for the next meeting which will be November 14tli instead of Nov 7th. The institute decided to have a banquet on Nov. 22nd.
