Sweitzer and family, of Beach O’ Pines spent the week-end with relatives in town. Mr. and Mrs. MacKenzie, of Kin­ cardine, spent the week-end at the hpme of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Drummond. A quiet wedding was solemnized at the United Church manse at high noon on Saturday when Hazel Iso­ bell, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Morenz, of Dashwood was united in marriage to John Her­ bert, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Corbett, of Hay, the Rev Ar­ thur Sinclair officiating. The young couple were attended by Miss Blan­ che Morenz and Mr. Roy Beate, ox Dashwood. The bride was charming­ ly gowned ih a dress of royal blue crepe with white trimming and ac­ cessories to match and carried a corsage of carnations, sweet pea and fern and for travelling a suit of blue crepe with trimmings. The groom’s gift to the bride was a bracelet with pearl setting, to the bridesmaid a string of pearls and xo the groomsman a tie-pin. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was ser­ ved at the bride’s home after which Mr. and Mrs. Corbett left by motor for London, Stratford, Strathoy ana other places. , Services were largely attended m our local churches on Sunday last., Special Easter sermons and music being given for the occasion. At the United Church Rev. Arthur Sinclair had charge of the services and m the morning a solo was given by Mr. Sam. Rennie and duet by Mrs. S. Sherrit and Mrs. Hess. In the even­ ing a duet was given by Mrs. Hed­ den and Mrs. Sinclair and a solo by Mr. T. Sherrit. At the morning ser­ vice Holy Communion was observed At the Carmel Presbyterian Rev. W. A. Young occupied the pulpit and a solo was given by Mrs. J. W. Bonthron and a duet by Mrs. W. A. McLaren and Mrs. Young in the morning and in the evening a male quartette by Messrs Jerry Denfield, W. A. McLaren, Jas. Bengough and Roy McLaren and a ladies quartette by Mrs. Young, Mrs. Paterson, Mrs. W. A. McLaren and Irene Daters. Af the Sit. Paul’s Anglican church Rev. M. B. Parker delivered very appropriate discourses and excellent anthems were rendered by the choir Death of Thos. Hemphilfi. The death occurred here on Mon­ day evening of Mr. Thos. Hemphill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cornelius Cook after a lingering Ill­ ness. The deceased was born in Ire­ land 85 years ago and came to this country when a child and resided in this district up until some fifteen years ago when he moved to Detroit. After the death of his wife about a year ago lie came to Hensall to live with his daughter, Mrs, C. Cook. Mr. Hemphill had been fail­ ing in health for the past few years and had been confined to his room for the past 6 months where he gradually declined. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughter, Mrs. W. R. Smyth, of Nelson, B. C.; and Mrs. C. Cook, of Hensall; and two sons, Thomas, of Wroxeter and Al­ vin W. E., of Hensall. The funeral which was private was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cook, on Wednesday interment tak­ ing place in the Hensall Union Cem- 1 etery. The Rev. Arthur Sinclair had charge of the service. CREDITON Mrs. Voelker and Mrs. Robt. Young of Pigeon, Mich., visited with Mt. and Mrs, William Smith last week'. An interesting meeting was hela last Wednesday evening in the Town Hall to meet the ratepayers for the purpose of re-organizing the Fire Brigade. The meeting was called by the Trustees and was largely at­ tended. For lack of space the names of the officers will not be printed but lists will be found in the stores of Faist Bros., F. W. Morlock and the Post Office. * The Town Trustees have arrange© for dumping space on the farm of H. Kuhn—the same will be collect­ ed around May 1st by our popular truck driver, Wm. (Special Easter services were held in the United Church both morning and evening on .Sunday last.. A special feature at the Sunday School session in the morning en­ titled “The Challenge of the Cross” was touching and helpful and was greatly appreciated by the large crowd present. Under the able con­ venorship of Mrs. F. Wi Clark, this exercise was put on by seven young ladies of the Sunday School, name­ ly: Misses Clara Lewis, Fern Luth­ er, Ila Lamport, Helen Finkbeiner Edna Beaver, Hazel Woodall and Alwinna Hill. Many comments wore made regarding the able way In which the young ladies handled their different parts. At the evening service Rev. John­ ston delivered a very impressive Easter message and special music was rendered by the choir. At the close of the service the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was adminis­ tered to an unusually large number. The Women’s Association of the United Church held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. T. Trevetliick on Wednesday of last week. Ml’S. B. Kestle presided and 18 ladies were present. Mrs. (Rev.) Johnston read the Easter lesson and Mrs. I. Hill led in prayer. Several items of business were attended to and the talent money turned in, which amounted to over thirty doll­ ars. Mrs. F. Clark’ and Mrs. fJ. Wood- all favored the meeting with a vocal duet. A dainty lunch was served by the following hostesses: Mrs. Herb Mitchell, Mrs. M. Finkbeiner and Mrs. Ed. The meeting opened with the Doxology followed’by the Lord’s Prayer m unison. A liymn was sung and Mr. Hazelwood led in prayer. The “Re­ sponsive Worship service” was led by Mrs. H. Squire. Roll Call was answered and minutes of last meet­ ing read. Lamport in honor or their daughter, Martha, who was married on Saturday, April 8th, in London to Mr. Gordon McNair, of Ilderton. About seventy friends of the bride and groom were present. After congratulations were over a program was given, consisting of a mock wedding,. solos, duets and readings, Mr. Wm. Sweitzer occu­ pied the chair. The friends joined in wishing Mr. and Mrs. McNairn a long and happy wedded life. They received many pretty gifts. Mr. Borden Schoeder with Mr. Joseph Ryan, vray, to work on the farm for the summer.
