His paper dealt with the problem of preacning as is specifically presented by the pulpit A challenge has "been flung to all preachers by the new Barthian movement in theological thought This movement, associated with the names of Karl Barth, Emil Brunner Friedrich Cogarten etc., has aroused widespread interest in Germany Holland, Denmark and Switzerland and is increasingly capturing atten tion in Great Britain and on. this side of the Atlantic. It is essentially a rebirth of Protestantism, the ser- ting in a new light of the formative principles of the Reformation; a renewal of emphasis on the trans cendence of God, on the fact of sin and the need for redemption; and a proclamation of the authority of the Word of God in a way that allows full scope to the methods of histori cal criticism. It was shown that this Theology of Crisis, to give it the name by which is is properly known is intended to call a halt to the cur rent anthropocentric forms of theol ogy. On the conclusion of the paper all those present engaged in a half hour’s free and fruitful discussion of the subject treated. A vote of thanks was extended to the speaker for his address.
