I-itdgins, formerly of Hospit- We thanks Wishes LIGHTS VICTORY before Christianity mad© its influence felt' in the world, folk in Western Europe, believed that a dragon made a periodic ef fort to swallow the sun, Success all but attended upon him till the peroid of the year we call Christmas the sun gradually drew away from him when in midsummer, the sqn was once again the lord of creation. Year by year the struggle went on. Mist, and frost, and tempest', and darkness annually marshalled their battal ions only to be withered by the victorious shining of the glorious and triumphant sun. The idea in this apcient legend be interpreted by the Christmas experience. For Christmas perennially reminds mankiria of the yictory of light—of knowledge, of good will, of plenty for every son of Adam and love and reward for all who labor in faith and kind ness of heart. Victory, and not defeat, gladness and not sorrow constitute the destiny of man. Reverse and perplexity may mark his lot but as surely as earth’s mists do not’ destroy the sun so surely will God’s light disperse the darkest cloud misfortune ever stretched. In this Christian confidence The Exeter Times-Advocate wishes its readers the merries; and happiest of Christmas-days! INVITED TO AYLMER Rev. D.
