recently in honor of Miss Beatrice
Madge, of London, formerly of Hen-
sall, a bride-elect of November.
After a few games were enjoyed the
guest of honor was showered with
presents. Other guests were the
Misses Gladys Weber, Ruth Weber,
Melinda Edwards, Aleatha Ogden,
Alice Des-Autle, Violet Bryan, Olive
Walker and Mrs. Flood. At^the close

MISS JANE E. ROBINSON
The death occurred Sunday of
Miss Jennie E. Robinson, S. Boun
dary, Blanshard, following a week’s
illness with pneumpnia. Her death
came only a week after the passing'
of her aged mother, who succumb
ed to. the same disease.
The surviving brothers and sisters
are; Dr. John L. and Dr. T. A., Tor
onto; James. H., Blanshard, Mrs, F.
W. Gregg, Los Angeles; Ella Mf., of
Detroit; Ethel, of Toronto.

Good prices have been realized at
the auction sales which have been
held so far this fall. At the sale of
Mr. (John Willis .on Thursday last
cow^i brought as high as $100., One
pig 'sold for $81.00 while small
chunks went for $10 each. Horses
were slow and did not bring much
in advance of the cattle.
Noi'folk’s Tobacco (Top
The greater part of Norfolk Coun
ty’s nine-million-pound crop of flue-
cured tobacco 'has now been sold an
prices averaging between 30 and 40
cents per pound. The everage will
be 'about 35 cents. It was estimated
that about 13,000 acres, were under
tobacco, in Norfolk this year, and
while the crop was injured by the
drought' and hail, it escaped frost
and most of the growers will be well
rewarded for their season’s. The
new half-million-dollar grading and

Educational Association of Trustees
and Ratepayers to be held in the au
ditorium nt the Collegiate Institute,
Clinton, on Saturday, November 1st,
commencing at 1.30 p.m. sharp. In

petition, Mr. A. E. Anderson, Lanark
Co., (a rural man with a rural view
point) who took part in the debate
on Township School Boards at the O.
E, A. Convention of 1929, will ad
dress the gathering on “The Finan
cing of the Rural Schools.” Mr, E.
C. Beacom, I. P. S. will speak on
“Fifth Classes in Rural Schools,”
and Dr. J. M. Field, I. P. S. will
speak on the new basis of grants to
public schools recently announced
by the Minister of Education. Let
everyone come prepared to take part
in the discussion, The boys and
girls of Huron Co. are entitled to the
best to be had in the line of public
schools. Members of parliament of
the County lof Huron, inspectors,
members of township and county
council, as well as teachers, trustees
and ratepayers, are cordially invited
to attend. A special invitation is ex
tended to ladies.

don on Friday evening of last week
and enjoyed a skate on the opening
night of the arena.
The Exeter soccer team played a
schedule game in Clinton on Thurs
day evening, and lost the score be
ing 3 to 0.
Mr. J. H. Grieve has been taking
in the dutch sett onion crop during
the week. The crop is large and the
quality good.
Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson a,nd fam
ily spent a few days last week visit
ing their daughter Mrs. Captain
Purdy, of Oakville, and son Clifford
and other relatives in Toronto.
A couple of representatives from
the radio division of the Department
of Marine and Fisheries, were in
town last week making a check-up
of radio interference. They made a
two-day inspection in which a num
ber of causes were investigated land
alterations will be made to elimin
ate disturbing influences.

An outstanding yield of blue grass
is reported by one farmer in Haldi-
mand County. His field as eight ac
res in size and .from seven loads tak
en from the eight acres, 2000 lbs.

acre. A pleasing feature of this is
that the straw is still good as a high
grade hay.
