James Street church and enjoyed the
music furnished by -the Goderich
visitors and a splendid sermon de
livered by Rev. Mr, Clark. A quar
tette ' comprising Miss Hume, Miss
Buchanan, J. R. Wheeler and Geo.
Buchanan sang “Sweet Hour of
Prayer” and two, anthems were al
so rendered in which Miss Hume and
Mr, Buchanan took the' solo parts,

MOVING TO RRESTON
Mr, A. R. McKinnon, the account
ant of the local Branch of the Bank
of Montreal, has. received notice of
his promotion to. the Accountancy of
the Preston Braneh^of that bank.
During the two years and a half
Mr. McKinnon has resided in Exeter
be has succeeded in making many
friends and he will be missed in sev
eral circles. His interests have not
been confined entirely to business.
He is the first Vice-President of the
recently formed Exeter Branch of
the Canadian Legion of the British
Empire Service League and is an of
ficer of the Tennis- Club, where his
skill on the courts will be missed as
much as his voice will be in the
management of the Club’s affairs.
Both Mr. and. Mrs. McKinnon will
carry away the good wishes of many
friends. Mr. McKinnon will be suc
ceeded by Mr. G. S. Tracy, of Athens,
whom we welcome to town.’

A meeting of the Board of Educa
tion was held in the office of the se
cretary on Monday, May 19th with
all. the members’ present. ' Previous
minutes were read and adopted.

from both the High School and Pub
lic School principals and were adopt
ed on motion, of W. IL’Dearing'and'
S; M. Sanders.
The Building and Grounds Com
mittee reported that a deal had been
put through with Mr. E. Heywood
whereby the .school get the land ad
joining their property while Mr.
Heywood gets possession of the pro
perty fronting on Laugnail Street.

to Victoria Hospital, London, in Mr.
Rowe’s ambulance Sunday afternoon
where he underwent an operation for
apendicites. His many. friends will
be pleased to know that he is getting
along as well as can be expxected.
Mrs. Gordon Wells was taken to
Victorig, hospital, London, on Friday
last and on Monday 'underwent* an
operation. She is getting*. along as
well as can be expected. Her mother
Mi’s. A. S. Davis, was with her for a
few days returning Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Harold Hunter, Of Uisborne,
underwent an. operation for ail acute
attack of appendicitis at Dr. Flet
cher’s Hospital, Friday evening. Her
many friends will be glad to know
she is getting along as well as can be
expected. Mrs. Hunter has been re
lieving as teacher at S. S. No. 2,
Biddulph and her place is being
taken by M'iss Reta Rowe.

Mr. Russell Hedden suffered a com
pound fracture of the leg in .an ac
cident at the Exeter race track .'on
Saturday afternoon. Mr. Hedden
was exercising one of his horses on
the track when the horse he was
driving .^tumbled and .fell, .a-hu Hed
den was. thrown from the cart but
he scrambled up and got hold of the
horse by the head. The horse in at
tempting to rise slipped and fell on
MV. Hedden’s leg fracturing both
bones above the ankle. He' was re
moved

At a well attended meeting of the
baseball fans held in S. G, B.awden’s
office on Friday evening, May 16th,
it was unanimously decided to> enter
a baseball team from Exeter in the
Intermediate O. B. A. class B group.
Exetei* will likely be grouped with
Goderich, Clinton and Hensail and
perhaps St. Marys. It was decided
to develop the local talent this year
instead of bringing in outside play
ers as it was felt that it would create
more interest in the gqmes. Follow

EXETER OLD ROY DIES
Word was received in Exeter of
the death of Mi*. George Lavis Who
died at his home at Barwick, Ont.
The deceased was a tot-mor Exeter
boy and at' one time was a mhrbio
cutter In Exeter. White hero lie was
also a leader df .the,baiid. He Was
aged 63 years. ’Pho deceased is stir-;
vived by his, widow whose maiden;
name was ftti’ss Rertha Willis, slstei*
of Mr. Ed, Willis, of town; also two
sons Roy and, Charles, of Detroit.
The funeral held Tuesday. Three
brothers and. fivs sisters also sur
vive among them beiii'g Mr. Ernest
Davis of Exetei*.

Sister, Miss Elizabeth Willis, who
died in Houghton, Mich., Thursday
night. The deceased suffered a
stroke in the early part of the week.
She was the youngest daughter of the
late Castor Willis and was born on
the London road about two miles
north of town. A brother, William,
lives in Dashwood. The deceased
spent the early part of her life with
her grandmother, Mrs. James Mur
ray, Who lived at Murray’s'corner,
north of Exeter. She left Exeter for
Sarnia where she learned the mill
inery business with hei* ^ister. Later
she entered a 'hospital at Duiutli
where she trained for a nurse and
followed this vocation for a •number
of .years. She was a nurse with, Mr.
and Mrs. C. Calverly, of Houghton,
Mich., afid finally made her home
with them where they resided for
