will be the election of officers for

present except Councillor Cameron.
The minutes -of the last meeting were
read and adopted ou motion of Petty
and Ortwein.
A communication was received
front the Children's \Var Memorial

tances..A grant of $10.00 was given.

sions issued in November was $1135.
and that $840 had been returners to
the County Treasury from pensions
issued to the people of the County
Horne and who have transferred
their pensions to ,the County Treas-
urer. $2.00 per month will be al-
lowed each one in the County Home
receiving a pension to be spent on
then by the Inspector or matron.
The meeting then adjourned to
meet again for its final meeting on
]Vfonday evening, December 16th.

bedside of their father Mr, G. Nadi -
ger, who passed away very peace-
fully. •

action' last Wednesday morning
viten the' ceiling its a room of Mr.
Jackson Wood's home - caiigh.t fire
from overheated pipes. • The. fore
alarm was given on the surrounding
telephone lines ttnd a large number
of neighbors were soon on the .scene.
Fire extinguishers and buckets of
water were brought into action and
the fire got under control and con-
fined to the one room. Although
*ceiling
damage was done to the
ceiling a21t1 contents of the room ev-
eryone was exceedingly thankful
that it was no worse.
Miss Lena Pym is at Thornclale as-
sisting Air. and Mrs. J. W. Skinner,
formerly of Winchelsea and Hensall,
with their 'Christmas !trade in the
store.
• Sacrament was administered at
the morning service last Sunday.
The heavy snowfall has made mo-
toring a rather doubtful pleasure.
Cutters, sleighs, wagoIls, buggies and
cars aro all in action on most roads
these last few days.
Miss Bessie Bell, nurse -in -training
at the Ontario Hospital, London, was
Moine for several days recuperating
after 'having her tonsils removed.
The Young People's Society held
a very enjoyable box 'social at the
home of their president, Mr. Ken-
neth Johns, on 'Monday evening of
this week. :About 50 young people
were present. The regular meeting
was held first with the president
leading the devotional exercises. Mr.
Horace Delbridge then led in the
Missonary program. others assisting,
Musical selections were given on the
piano, violin aIld inouthorgan; also
readings which were all of ]high or-
der and much enjoyed. Afterwards
over 20 boxes were .auctioned by
Rev. 'White which realized good
prices. The boxes were all wonder-
ful but seine were especially worth
mentioning; •one in the form of a
three storey Christmas cake; elle,•
an aeroplane; one, a coniplete cot-
tage; one, a church steeple with a
bell; twb others, automobiles; and
two mere, Indian canoes. The pro-
ceeds amounted to over $41.00 this
being the sum needed which the
young people were striving to raise.
A Jack hunt was enjoyed by lo-
cal sports on Tuesday afternoon..

These concerts have always been very

Mrs. Gordon McDonald met at their
home as a surprise and presented
then with a beautiful Mirror and

members. A very pleasant evening
was spent followed by refreshments.
The regular monthly meeting of
the W.M.S. met at the Thome of Mrs.
Robert Robinson, The president,
Mrs. Kydd, presiding. The meeting
opened with a hymn, scripture react-
ing and prayer. The topic from our
study book was taken by Mrs: Wise -

Ing. This being our annual meet-
ing officers were elected' for the fol-
lowing year. When all envelopes
aro handed in we expect to reach
our allocation.

Mr. and Mrs. George Hazelwood
and family leave this week for their
new home in Stratford. The best
wishes of their many friends go with

A gloom was cast over our conl-
nienit'y on Sunday when word came
from Toronto of the death of Mrs.
John Berry. Site had been operat-
ed on a week before for goitre and
while great hopes were held out for
her recovery she suddenly took a
turn for the worse and passed away
Sunday morning. Besides her sor-
rowing husband she leaves one sister
and one brother Miss Annie Urqu-
hart and Wm. A. Urquhart to mourn
her loss, to W11on1 we extend our
sympathy' in their sad bereavement.

A very enjoyable and social ev-
ening was spent in the basement of

say good-bye to Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Hazelwood and family before their
departure for their new home in
Stratford. The meeting was called
to order by Bev. Mr. Bell and after
singing and prayer a program was
given consisting of solos by Airs. S.
Shier and 1Mr. Chas. Paul when Mr.
and Mrs. Hazelwood and their thvo
daughters Elva and Marion were
asked to conte to the front ilnd Rev.
Mr. Bell read the following address:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hazelwood, Elva
aucl Marion:
We are living in a word of change
and with deep regret ivo have learn-
ed that you are about to make a
change; that you are about to leave
our neighborhood and .move to Strat-
ford. Your whole lives have been
spent in this community and by your
upright living and the conscientious
discharge of your duties and by your
friendly, neighborly ways you have
Won universal respect and esteem.
Your place in the life and work of
the Rirktoll United Church will be
very hard to fill, Mr. Hazelwood
during your connection with the
church you have filled all the of-
ficial positions in the gift of the
church, As an official you have
faithfully • and conscientiously
charged your duties and responsibil-
ities and have proved yourself to be
a faithful servant of the church and
a true follower of your Master Je-
sus Christ. You and your faithful
Wife have long been associated with
the Sunday School and your teach-
ing has left its impression on mashy

and in a few well chosen, words on
behalf of the Women's Missionary
Society told of the part that Mrs.
Ilazelwood had taken in the society
after which Mrs. H. V. George pres-
ented her with a life membership
certificate.
Mrs. Hazelwood has for many
years ,been a teacher of the young
girls class in the Sunday School and
Helen 13ickle then came forward and
read the following address:
Dear Mrs. Hazelwood, our friend
• and teacher:
We, the members of your Sunday
School class wish to take this op-
portunity of expressing to you our
deep ;debt of gratitude for all that.
you have done fir ifs as teacher of
our glass for so many years. You
have been most faithful as a teacher•
and the lessons you have imparted
to us have had auuch to do in the
moulding of our characters. Your
teaching and the example of your
daily life will ever remain with us
as a sweet and fragrant memory and
not as a memory only but .as n in-
fluence for good in our lives. We
recall the mappy once profitable
hours we have spent together in the
class and we assure you that we are
very sorry that the relationship of
teacher and scholars is now about
to be severed. We shall miss you
very much when We meet as a class,
and we wonder where one can be,
found to fill your place.
