A social Meeting of the young people was held in the United church on Monday evening last in honor of. Rev. Ben. Smillie, returned Mission- ary from India on furlough. The meeting was opened by singing hymn 91 after which NII•. Sinclair led in ' Brayer. Miss Louise Drummond gave a 'very pleasant solo followed • by a number of selections by Mr. Hyde and his trio after which Miss Minnie Sa.ngster•g•ave a solo. Hymn !number 84 was sung after which 111r. 'Hyde and his. •trio gave another couple of selections, Mr. Hyde play- ing the ;violin, Miss Effie Bell the -piano and Miss Lorette Bell the tri- angle. The boys of the. Trail Rang - ere put on a short play entitled 'Doc 'Brock, Initiation of an old Ford -ear." At the close of the meeting a'efresliments were served. Wilfred hits returned home from Victoria Hospital on Monday and is improving nicely after under- going a • serious facial_ operation a couple of weeks ago. Miss Bessie Johns is recovering fi•oen an attack of inflammation with which -she was confined to her bed all last week with a nurse in .attendance. Miss Doris Elford had her tonsils removed on Wednesday of last week. She has made a goad recovery. Mrs. Fred Wright and son Freddie visited with her father in Stratford last. week. Mrs. Philip Madge has been con- fiiied to her bed suffering from a stroke, but is much better. Mrs. Will Johns continues to im- prove each day. Mrs. Mitchell, who has been in attendance for six weeks was able to leave here to visit at her home in Exeter on .S•unday. B. Row-: cliffe, half mile south of Hensall on No. 4 highway. It was one ot the: most successful matches that has been held in South Huron, there being 24 entries. In spite of the fact that the weather was dull with a drizzling rain- there was a large at- tendance of spectators and a keen interest was taken throughout. The prizes this year went farther away from home than usual. The land was in good shape and the quality of tate work was excellent, The la- dies of the United Church served hot refreshments on the grounds.
