and evening. , In the evening Rev.
Mr. Smillie returned Missionary from
India illustrated his sermon by lan-
tern slides which. proved to .be very
interesting to the large congrega-
tion; Miss Pearl Woocl, of Exeter,
sang solos at both services.
A social Meeting of the young
people was held in the United church
on Monday evening last in honor of.
Rev. Ben. Smillie, returned Mission-
ary from India on furlough. The
meeting was opened by singing hymn
91 after which NII•. Sinclair led in
' Brayer. Miss Louise Drummond
gave a 'very pleasant solo followed
• by a number of selections by Mr.
Hyde and his trio after which Miss
Minnie Sa.ngster•g•ave a solo. Hymn
!number 84 was sung after which 111r.
'Hyde and his. •trio gave another
couple of selections, Mr. Hyde play-
ing the ;violin, Miss Effie Bell the
-piano and Miss Lorette Bell the tri-
angle. The boys of the. Trail Rang -
ere put on a short play entitled 'Doc
'Brock, Initiation of an old Ford
-ear." At the close of the meeting
a'efresliments were served.

week a miscellaneous shower was
held at the home of Mrs. Robert
Smith iu honor of Miss Irene Davey

were present and Miss Davey receiv-
ed many beautiful gifts which were
presented to her in a house decor-
ated in pink and white.

On Friday- evening of last week
the Sunday School paid its annual
visit to the Huron County Fiome.• A
good' program was put on by mem-
bers of the .Sunday School and a real
good time enjoyed by all. Rev. Mr.
Hawk expressed his appreciation on
behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs and
the inmates of the Home. Mr. and
Mrs. Jacobs are friends of the people
in this community and we feel that
great credit is due them for the ca-
pable .manner in which they super-
vise this splendid institution. We
feel that it is part of our duty as
well as our enjoyment to hell) Mr.
and Mrs. Jacobs as mut , as we can
in the great work they re doing.

from Victoria Hospital on Monday
and is improving nicely after under-

Miss Bessie Johns is recovering

Mrs. Philip Madge has been con-
fiiied to her bed suffering from a
stroke, but is much better.
Mrs. Will Johns continues to im-
prove each day. Mrs. Mitchell, who
has been in attendance for six weeks
was able to leave here to visit at her
home in Exeter on .S•unday.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Jacob

Herbert Young, at Crediton, was
held fretn her residence, Tavistock,
on Saturday afternoon- to Trinity'
Lutheran cemetery. It was largely
attended, whlch, with the numerous
beautiful floral offerings, testified to
the "esteem in which Mrs. Stock was
held throughout the community.
Rev. 0. T. Stockman, pastor of Trin-
ity Lutheran church, conducted a
brief service at the house and a mem-
orial see vice in the church which was
largely attended. Mr. and Mrs.

John G. Young was beam Septem-
ber 10, 1549 in Markham Village in
York Township, Ont. The family
moved t; Stephen Township when
John wee a, boy and in the course
of time he was married to Miss Ade-
laide Banes, of Now Castle, Que.
Mr. .ani 31rs, Young moved to the
village of Crediton where he pur-
chased ti:e hardware store and con-
tinued to be- one of the leading busi-
ness nest for a period. of 40• years.
A family of seven -children was born
to •theca, five of which are still liv-
ing and are the following: William
J. Young. of St. Marys; Leah, the
wife of Mr. Ezra Oestricher, Wind-
sor; ' Hee bert Young, of Crediton;
•Mary, at home and Lucy, the wife of
Mr. Harr-. Larkin, of Lucan. This
venerable father was a respected ci-
tizen of tee village of Crediton, well
known • ;among a large circle et
friends as a man of his, word and
christiatt principles. A. member of
the Evangelical church, • He died at'
an early hour Sunday neorning at
the age of 80 years. Funeral ser-
vices at the home on Tuesday af-
ternoon, were conducted by the pas-
tor W. M. Sippell and interment in
the Exeter cemetery. The children
were ,all present to pay their tribute
to tate nieniory of thein' departed
father,

The match was held on the Olen -
almond Dairy Farm of A. B. Row-:
cliffe, half mile south of Hensall on
No. 4 highway. It was one ot the:
most successful matches that has
been held in South Huron, there
being 24 entries. In spite of the fact
that the weather was dull with a
drizzling rain- there was a large at-
tendance of spectators and a keen
interest was taken throughout. The
prizes this year went farther away
from home than usual. The land
was in good shape and the quality
of tate work was excellent, The la-
dies of the United Church served hot
refreshments on the grounds.
The President of the association
is Mr. Archie Morgan, with E. J.
Pym, Sec'y.; 1st. Vice -President, P,
Passmore; 2nd Vice -President, G.
McDonald; Treasurer, Wm. Welsh;
Constable 1.1. Routley. The judge
was Francis Thompson Brantford.

ground over the week -end.
Mrs. Wilmer McLinchey, of Greene
way; spent Monday, visiting her
mother Mrs, T. Webb.

wives vieited Mr. and Mrs. Walter
England on Sunday.
Mrs. S. Dewey, of St. Marys, has
been visiting her mother Mrs. L. Ra-
velle for a few days.

be on when the anniversary services

Rev. Dr. McIntosh, of London at
11.15 and seven thirty in the even-
ing. This will be a rare opportunity

week spent on the farm near Hen-
sall, where Mr. Mousseau held a very,
successful auction sale.
Miss Greta Baker has gone to
London for the Winter working for
Mrs. (Dr,) Hunt.
