STAFFA On Friday, July 26, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Geiger, of Hensail, was the setting for the celebration of their golden wedding. The event was of striking interest, as the groom is the fifth member of the family of the late Daniel B. Geiger to be fortunate enough’ to celebrate such an occasion. Dinner was served in the new ga rage. Decorations in green and gold were carried out to fine effect. The ceiling was bowered with ever greens; bunting and flags flanked the windows. The tables were dec orated with smilax and yellow flow ers. Yellow candles surrounded ‘the- bouquet in the centre of the table. In the afternoon Mrs. Oliver Geiger, of Tara, poured the tea, and Miss Pauline Geiger, of St. Paul, Minn., out the ices. Mrs. F. Manns.; Mrs. (Dr.) E. Witwer, of Detroit; Mrs. E. Kennedy, of Windsor; Mrs. (Dr.) Geiger, of Waterloo; Mrs. E. Geiger, of London and Miss Reid ably served the many callers. In the evening- Miss Reid poured the tea and Mrs. E. Kennedy and Mrs. (Di>) Geiger cuat the ices, while Mesdames F. Manns, of Hensail; Tara; Miss tulle and beautiful O. Geiger, of S. Geiger, of Espanola and Carmichael served. Ralph Geiger, grandson of the bride and groom, had charge of the register. One of the largest crowds of the season visited .Grand Bend on Sun day, cars seemingly parked in every conceivable place. Rain coming on at noon sent the visitors scurrying for cover. The rain was very wel come as it tended to cool the intense ly ihot atmosphere. Large crowds were present at the camp services on Sunday to hear Mr. Albert E. Greenlaw, ’ the colored baritone soloist from Detroit. In spite of the rain which fell during the afternoon the evening service was held in the open and it is esti mated that ‘ around two thousand people were present. Mr. Greenlaw delighted the large audince, singing three numbers at each service. The pastor, Rev. J. M. Colling, preached two short and appropriate sermons that appealed, to his hearers. On Monday evening Mr. Greenlaw gave a negro spiritual concert to a large and appreciative-audience. AVheat threshing has commenced in this vicinity. The first to thresh was Mr. Thos. Yearley who stook threshed twelve acres’.' The thresh ing was done by Mr. Cliff Hill.. The Misses Vera and Lauretta Holtzmann accompanied by three other nurses from St. Luke’s Hos pital, Cleveland, motored home ovei* the week,-end, taking advantage of the lake excursion. Rc-clccorating School The trustees of the school are hav ing the interioi* re-decorated, the ceilings being done in white and the- walls in buff. The work is being- done by Mr. Paris Anderson. A new sanitary toilet system is also being installed. ■ • Occupying New Cottage Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Zwicker are now occupying' their new summer cottage at Grand Bend. Mr. Zwick- er’s cottage is something new in. stucco work in this community. It is equipped with all modern conven iences and presents a very attractive appearance. It is situated overlook ing the river and lake. Auto Accident An auto’ accident occurred west of Shipka at noon on Sunday when Mrs. John A. Nash and daughters, of London, were on their way, to Grand Bend. After passing ‘a cul vert Miss Nash, who was driving, lost control of the car and it headed for a ditch turning a somersault landing on the top. Mrs. Nash re ceived some injuries to her back ancl body, but none' of the party were seriously hurt. Mr. A. E. Wuerth happened along at the' time and took the ladies to the Brenner House at Grand Bend. The car which was. badly wrecked was taken to London. With the wrecker by Mr. Lloyd Hey. My* Faist who is. attending the North’ Central Colleg iate at Napierville, Ill., was fortun ate in being selected as a member of the College Glee Club which is at present making a two mouth's’ tour of-several states of -the union, giving, entertainments at various places. They have visited the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota,. Montana and at present they are at Yellowstone National Park. Before completing their tour they will visit Wohiing, Colorado, Kansas, Ne braska and Iowa returning August SOtli. Mr. Faist is* reader of the.- club.- i Horseshoe Club Fonhixd^^^^ A horseshoe club has been r'e-or- ganized in the village and consider able interest in this popular pastime- is being shown at present. Three new icottrts have been laid' out in the athletic grounds nedr the school and these will b© lighted by hydro for evening playliig. More courts will be added if necessary.
