From early morning till the commencement of the monster par­ ade, Orangemen and theii' families treked into the town, gayly decorated for the occasion. It was estimated 6,000 participated in celebrating the Glorious Twelfth. On arriving at the armouries members of the order were welcom­ ed hy Mayor Thomas Fells. Bro. C. R. Coultes, county master of Huron, acted as chairman. Chief among the speakers, all of whom spoke of the. high .ideals and aims of the Orange Order, Lowe, of London, past grand lain; George Spotton, M.P., Durham; Rev. O. Gallagher, now; B. Logan, county master Bruce; Herman Powe, county master South Bruce, The parade through the streets was headed by the Citizens’ Band, with Bro. J. Tampn leader and direc­ tor, In addition to the Citizens’ Band music was furnished by the Clinton Kiltie Band, Blyth Citizens’ Band, Seaforth Orange Pipe Band and the Wingham fife and drum band. Ladies’ Lodges also made a splendid -showing. Meals were served in the cafes and hotels by the leaders of the Women's Institutes. , An excellent program of races was run off. The local boys had lots of pep right from the start and put up a splendid brand of ball while on the other hand Goderich lost theii’ confidence and numerous errors were chalked up. Exeter commenced scoring in the third inn­ ing and with hard hitting combined with errors on the part of Goderich scored in the scored fourth sational play when he stole home. In the fifth Dundas made q two base hit scoring two runners. Exeter scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Goderich never had more than four men up in any 'one inning. The spec­ ial feature of the meeting was the report of the W.M.S. convention held in Chatham in May. This was given by Mrs. Mantle who was a delegate to the convention. The splendid ad­ dress given by Mrs. Mantle showed a great deal of care and thought in preparation and was very interest­ ing and inspiring. It was intersper­ sed with some favorite hymns as sung at the Convention. One spec­ ial note mentioned among others was the beautiful memorial service held for the large number of W.M.S. mem­ bers who have passed on to higher service during the year and which comes as a .clarion call foi’ many new recruits for faithful service in the great work of the W.M.S. A Well- rendered solo by Mrs. T. Coates add­ ed much to the pleasure of the meet-, ing. Mrs. J. Batson acted as pian­ ist. HODGERT DESCENDANTS HOLD FINE GATHERING Descendants of the late Archie Eliza Hodgert, who came to Canada from Kilbarkim, Renfrewshire, Scot­ land, many years ago settling on the Thames Road, Usborne Township, gathered at Queen’s Park, Stratford oxx Wednesday, July lOtlx where they held theii’ fourth annual reunion, members of the family being present from Toronto, London/ Port Hope, Exeter, Farquhar, Russeldale, Hen­ sall, Seaforth, Mitchell and Fullar- ton. The picnickers arrived about noon and immediately a hearty repast was served by the ladies. The afternoon was spent in a fine program of races, games and softball, which was en­ joyed <by aH those participating and also those looking on, The -success of the gathering was due largely to the untiring efforts of the officers who were in charge of Wednesday’s outing, among whom were: president, John Hodgert, Far­ quhar; secretary, James Hodgert, Farquhar and u treasurer, William Gillory, Hensall. Those in charge of the program of sports were, K. J. Hodgert of Port Hope and F. Bray, New Toronto. They decided to hold the re-union next yeax* at Stratford on the second Wednesday in July. The officers named for the reunion next year were: president, John Hodgert, Farquhar; secretary, Leslie Richards, Crediton; treasurers, F., H. The weather was ideal and in spite of the fact that it was a very busy time on the farm there was a good attend­ ance and the picnic was one of the best that has been held for many years. The scholars entered heart­ ily into the various sports and races which proved very interesting and entertaining. A game of softball was played between the married men and single men resulting in a victory for the single men 17-11. In the evening another softball game was played between Exeter and Grand Bend the latter winning 6-2. The following was the result of the races. On Monday, July 8tli the annual picnic of the United Sunday School was held in the Park at Stratford when about 200 of the members met and had ia real good time. The smaller children enjoyed the swings in the park while the older ones played ball and engaged in sports and races. The captains for the hard ball -game was Wilfred Doupe and Alvin Crago, the latter winn­ ing by a score of 7-4 and the cap­ tains for* the soft ball were Agnes Greason and Kathleen Gregory. Mrs. Wilson Anderson spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Anderson in Exeter. Musical Success Mr. Arthur B. Bennett Esq., F.C. C.M., L.L.C.M., of Toronto, (form­ erly Examiner London Eng. College of Music) examined the music pupils of Miss Addileen Gaiser, A.C.C.M., with the following result: Intro­ ductory grade, Martin Morock 94; Intermediate grade, Helen Telfer 89, Gladys Ratz 87; Progressive grade, Ruby Finkbeiner 88. The pupils are to be congratulated upon their success, all having obtained honors. The Evangelical Sunday School Picnic at Grand Bend last Wednes­ day afternoon brought a perfect day and crowd. The death occurred at her home in Seaforth of Mrs. Alexander Lamont after two years’ illness. Mrs. La­ mont was h resident of Seaforth for 44 years. Her maiden name was Miss Sarah Hogg. Twenty-five years ago she was united in marriage to Alexander Lamont, who now survives together with two sons, Iieith, of De­ troit, and Frank of Seaforth.
