Quite a number from the village attended the birthday party of Mr. Wm, Doig, at the Kippen HaH on Tuesday last. Mrs. Roland Cudmore has return­ ed to town after spending the win­ ter with friends at Montreal, Toron­ to and Kitchener. The Hensail Bakery is again open­ ed, and it doing its old time busi­ ness under the management of Mr. McManus, of Mitchell. Messrs. Casey Hudson and1 Fred Fairbairn have opened up a garage in Zurich. As they are both cap­ able men, they will, no doubt, do well. The concert put 6n. by the Sun­ beam Trio on Friday evening was well attended, a splendid crowd be­ ing present and each artist gave very pleasing rendering of theii* numbers. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bezzo and 4 family moved to Goderich last week ‘ where Mr. Bezzo lias secured work at the new harbor works. Arthur Dick moved them up with his truck. Mr. ank Mrs. Wm. McKay and daughter, (Marion, intend leaving for Hagersville, where their son Russell is practicing medicine. They will keep house for the doctor for awhile. Line, Mrs, Lea Disjardine, beloved wife of the late Peter Disjardine who predeceased hei' several years ago. She is sur­ vived by five sons and four daugh­ ters. The Mission Circle of the United Church held a social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hiscocks on • Wednesday, March the 20t,h given in honor of Dorothy and Kathleen Law- son prior to their departure from our midst. A social time was spent after which Clara Lewis read an ad- preciative address and Hazel Wood- all on behalf of the Circle presented Dorothy and Kathleen each with a handsome piece of china. The address reads as follows: Dear Dorothy and Kathleen,— As you are to leave our midst in the liear future, we, the members of the Mission Circle have gathered here this evening for a social time together before you leave. This work will be started as soon as possible and the balance of the road between Kippen and Exeter will no doubt be com­ pleted this year, The services at the United church were well attended last Sunday, the pastor Rev. Arthur Sinclair preach­ ing at both services. Special ser­ vices will be held in the church every evening this week, except Saturday. Hold Birthday Party On Thursday afternoon last a very delightful afternoon was spent at the United church, the occasion be­ ing the annual birthday party of the society, There was a large attend­ ance and the basement ‘was most ar­ tistically arranged. After the opening exercises, a very pleasing program was given and each num­ ber was greatly enjoyed: Reading, Mrs. Agnes Horton; trio, Mrs. Drys­ dale, Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Hess; in­ strumental, Miss.Agui\ solo, Mrs. H. The farmers, who have been mak­ ing maple-syrup in this district re­ port the run as being not too good this year. However the syrup is of good quality. Mr. John Essery, wbo attended the Insurance Convention in Toron­ to last -week, returned to ■ his home here on Saturday last and reports having spent an 'enjoyable and pro­ fitable trip in view of the fact that he has represented the Usborne & Hibbert Insurance Co. for a number of years. (Signs of spring are .noticeable. On all sides ’the robins and blackbirds have returned and several other kinds of birds which is a sure sign that spring is in the offing. A^ special Eastei’ program has been, arranged foi* the services in the church here on Easter Sunday, when no doubt, large crowds will be out to enjoy them. Mr. Cecil Skinner, our genial superintendent urgently requests that the ^school rooms be filled to capacity for this special oc­ casion. The St. Patrick’s program undei* the auspices of the Women’s Assoc­ iation was fairly well attended on Friday evening of last week con­ sidering the condition the roads were in at the time. A varied’pro­ gram was given which was such en­ joyed by all present. The ladies are to be congratulated -on the excellent repast which preceded the program the tables being decorated in Irish style suitable to the occasion. An occasion of special interest is in the offing in. the way of a debate which will be given by the Willing Workers class vs. the Truth Seekefs class. The question to be debated is “Resolved that Immigration into Canada should be encouraged.’’ Tlie debating teams will be three Willing Workers, Clifton Mitchell, Miss Ha­ zel Smith and Miss Hazel Hay who will take the affirmative and the negative will be taken by Trueman Mills, Miss Aurelia Andersoji and Miss Beryl Hill. This question is of vital interest at the present time and should draw a good attendance. Much discussion has been heard recently in regard to Station street, Which is in a very bad state at the present time. Isn’t it about time that some Action was taken to get soihe kind of permanent good road, instead of the mud? Surely we can­ not expect the public to tolerate these Conditions forever, as practically all the tondge going to and coming frofn the Farmers’ Co-Operative Co., must of necessity pass over this road. Let’s get together boys and do something. Discussion will never finish the job/ St. Patrick’s Supper The st. Patrick’s supper, under the auspices of the Women’s Associ­ ation, which \Vas held oil Thursday evening in the basement of the Uiiited church, was a v&ry successful affair. The tables were beautiful With St. Patrick’s decorations. The program, wfilch carried out the Irish liote of the evening, was provived by local artists. Rev*. R.
