Marjory, little daughter of Mr. ■ and Mrs. Leslie Richards, who has been ill with pneumonia, is improv­ ing. IMiss Marguerite Aidworth, who was taken ill in Stratford, recently returned to her home at Saxsmith and is now improving nicely. Dr. J. W- Browning has been con­ fined to his home with, influenza. His son, Dr. Harry Browning, has been looking after his practice. Councillor H.-C. Rivers, who was recently operated on at Dr. Flat- cher’s hospital 'for appendicitis, is making splendid progress toward re­ covery. Mr. Chas. Kerslake, who recently underwent an operation at St. Jo­ seph’s hospital, London, was brought home on1 Sunday last and is getting along nicely. Mr. W. JOHN VEAIJ4 DIES AT FOREST Taken III While On Visit To His Daughter. FOREST, Jan. 8.—Rev. John Veale, of Dorchester Station, died in Forest, on Tuesday, January the Sth at the home of Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Hiles, of the Foest United church. He as the father of Mrs. Hiles, and came here to spend Christmas holi­ days and was taken ill with pneu­ monia. f Mr. Vele, who was in his 81st year, was one of the pioneer preach­ ers of Westerh Ontario. He came from Devonshire, England, to .this country when a young man and was ordained, a ministei’ of the Bible Christian Church in 1878, filling ap­ pointments at Durham, Palmerston^ Fullarton and Crediton. After th.®- union of several Methodist churches .lie filled appointments at Delaware,, Malahide, Brownsville, Highgate, Springfield, Dorchester Station and Kirkton until he retired from active’ service in 190'9. Since then he had made his home at Dorchester, where he taught a young people’s 'bible class. •He is survived by his widow-and- two daughters, Mrs. Hiles, of Forest and Mrs. Dr. Angust Graham, of London. The funeral will be held.- from the Oatman funeral home to the Woodland Mausoleum on Thurs­ day afternoon. Mr. Fred McPherson, wvho has t spent seme t-ime in the west has re­ turned and is visiting at the home of his father Mr. R. McPherson* The remains of the late Mrs. Thos. Brevard, who died in Flint, Mich., in he ’33rd year, were brought to the home of her ’parents Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Elliott and the funeral was held on Saturday afternoon to the Exeter cemetery. Among those who attended the funeral were: Mr. Brevard and four children; Mr. El­ dred Elliott, of Marlette, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Elliott and daughter, of Milford, Mich.; Mr. Thos. Jones, of Detroit; -Mrs. Redman, of Pontiac Mich. The Ladies Aid of the James St. United Church have completed their organization' for another year. This society have j.ust Closed a, very suc­ cessful year, having raised $900.00, $500.00 of which has been turned ovei* to the building fund of the church. The ladies also' installed an electric stove, electric hot plate and a magnificent cupboard in the kit­ chen of the church, and in addition have brought hard water into the kitchen. SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES CLOSED The local Board of Health met ‘Saturday evening ahd as a precau­ tionary measure decided to close the churches on Sunday bwing to the .proyelance of ’influenza. As It waa late Saturday evening when this de­ cision was arrived at services were permitted in the iiiornihg and Sun­ day School and the evening service withdrawn. Sunday morning was very stormy however ahd tire 'cbn- grogatlhns lit the churches were not large. The high and public schools will re-opou Monday, January 14th. There has been quite a lot of sick­ ness throughout the- town and the eommtihity but for the most part the illness has been a mild type.
