Ormond on Wednesday of last week. The president, Mrs, William R. Talbot, led in the Christmas service from the Glad Tidings, with agrs. A. A. Armstrong reading the 'Christmas story. Mrs. Russell Heard, secre- tary, and Mrs. Bruce Menerey, treasurer, gave fine reports. A quilt was displayed which has recently been completed, to go to the United States, The following officers were returned for the year 1962: president, Mrs, William R. Tal- bot; vice-president, Mrs, H. H. Ormond; second' vice-president, Mrs. A. A. Armstrong; secre- tary, Mrs, Russell Heard; 'treas- urer, Mrs, Bruce Menerey; Glad Tidings secretary, Mrs. J. J. Richardson; Presbyterian Rec- ord, Mrs. B. Menerey. Three guests were present, and Mrs. Ross MacDonald, Hensail attended. During the program .Mrs. IL H. Ormond played several Christmas selec- tions on !the organ, and at the close of the meeting, she served tea, o Guide Leaders Train; Guides Enjoy Celebration (Hayfield Correspondent) Three patrol, leaders, Sandra, Middleton, Carol Wallis and Lynda Gremeinhardt of First Company Hayfield Guides, ac- companied by Mrs. Maynard Corrie, lieutenant, attended a training session in Ontario St. United Church, Clinton, on Sat- urday from 10 am. to 3.30 pm. It was for patrol leaders in the -Huron Division. Trainers were Mrs. Howard' and Mrs. Wood from. Oakville, The First Hayfield Guide Company held the annual Christmas party at Cedar Grove on Monday evening. Mrs. Mer- ton Merner, president of the local association, helped trans- port:the girls' from the meeting at the Hayfield public school and .assisted the leaders, Mrs. R. MacVean, captain, and Mrs. Maynard Carrie, lieutenant. Before leaving the school, Mrs. John Campbell tested the First Class Guides for their practical work in first aid. Each of the 22 Guides at- tending had made her own pap- er hat, some of which showed considerable ingenuity in de- sign. Mrs. Tiernan was asked to judge and gave first prize to Penny Howlett and second to Margaret Wallis. The balloon prize went to Cheryl Johnston Barbara Leitch won the candy jar contest. Mrs. Tiernan had decorated the lunch tables with the Christmas theme which added to the enjoyment of lunch. A film will be shown for the local and neighbouring schools and Sans to Claus is expected' to include this party in his itinerary, United WA At Bayfield Holds Final Meeting (Hayfield Correspondent) The final meeting of the Wo- man's Association was held 'at the United Church parsonage with Mrs. W C. Smith as host- ess. The president, Mrs. C. Bell took charge of the meet- ing, and opened with the WA theme. Miss 3. Stirling read the Scripture. Mrs. Bell gave a reading on "Sacrifice," Mrs. L. Makins gave the see- retary's report and Miss. J. Stirling presented the treasur- er's report, showing a healthy balance to end the year and the work of the association. An appeal from Westminster College was' held over. Mrs. LeRoy Poth gave an appeal from the Voice of Wo- men Organization concerning children's teeth. Mrs. Robert Scotchmer pre- sented the slate of officers for 1962. It was put to the meet- ing and they were declared elected'. Mrs. John Scotchmer, Mrs. C, Bell, and! Mrs. Gordon D. Scotchmer were appointed to look after the Christmas basketsa for shut-ins. Lunch was served by the committee !and all enjoyed a social half hour. Trinity Club Elects; President Mrs. R. A. Simons Mayfield Correspondent) The Christmas theme -was used for the devotional period at the Trinity Club meeting held at the home of Mrs, J. H. Cobb on December 5. Mrs, W. E. Bellchamber presided, Mrs. J. Land offered prayer, and Mrs. F, Hulls read' the Scrip- ture, St. Matthew 2. Reports given by the secre- tary, Mrs. Maynard Corrie and treasurer, Mrs. William E. Parker showed an interesting and active year. Donations were voted as fol- lows: $10 to the Goderich branch of the Children's Aid Society; contents of birthday box ($10) to Trinity Women's Auxiliary; $50 to the Board of Management of Trinity Chinch. The slate of officers, propos- ed by the nominating commit- tee, Mrs. J. H. Cobb, Mrs. F. P. Arkell and Mrs. W, E. G. Bellchamber was presented by Mrs. Cobb. Ready for New Organization (ayfield ifIorrespendent) The annual meeting- of the Woman's Missionary Society of St. Andrew's United .Chureb, Bayfield, was held on Thursday afternoon at 'the parsonage with the president, Mrs. Harvey Hohner presiding, Mrs. Hohner eolidsieted the worship service and Mrs. Smith read and .dis- cussed the chapter from the study book "Signals for the Six-, ties," in a most interesting manner. This being not only the fin- al meeting of the year, but the final meeting of the or- ganization of the Woman's sronary Society and the neces- sary steps having been taken for the setting up of the new orrarrization, "United Church Women," the provincial com- mittee presented a list of nom- inations for office. These were voted upon and duly elected, Rev. W. C, Smith presided for !the election. Lead- er, Mrs, L. Makins; first vice- president, Mrs. C. Bell; second vice-president, Mrs. H, Hohner; third vice-president, Mrs. L. Smith; secretary, Mrs. Steckle; treasurer, Miss 3. The children sang Christmas carols and a Bible story was told with a flannelgraph. This was fol- lowed by games and prizes were given for attendance. Beverly and Barbara Sparks sang a Christmas carol, after which lunch was enjoyed by all. Brownies Party Following their regular meet- ing at the school on Monday evening, Mrs. Ken Brandon, Brown Owl, and Mrs. Alice Johnston, Tawny Owl, took the 12 members of the Brownie Pack to 'the home of Mrs. John Lindsay at eight o'clock. There they sang Christmas carols, af- ter which Mrs, Lindsay, assist- ed by the leaders• served' hot dogs and a cake in the form of a snowman made by Mrs. John- ston. The Brownies toasted marshmallows. Each member of the pack received a small Christmas gift from Brown Owl and Tawny Owl before be- ing escorted home. Trinity Guild The Trinity Church Guild meeting was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, De- cember 12 with 11 members present. Mrs. Merton Merner was hostess for the social hour which followed. Rev. E. J. B. Harrison took the opening and closing exercises and read the Scripture lesson. Mrs. Percy. Weston, president was in charge of the business period. A report and corres- pondence was read by Mrs. A. M, Bassett, secretary and the financial statement given by Mrs. Merton Merner, treasurer. Arrangements were made to hold the annual Sunday School Christmas party in the Parish Hall on Thursday, December 28 at 7.30 p,m. Mr. Harrison took the chair for the election of officers for 1962 and named Mrs. Fred Weston and Mrs. E. A. Featherston as scrutineers. Officers are:' honorary presi- dent, Mrs R. H. F, Gairdner; past president, Mrs. Lloyd Scot- chmer; president, Mrs. Percy Weston; vice-president, Mrs, R. 3. Larson; second vice-presi- dent, Mrs. Lloyd Scotchmer; secretary, Mrs. A. M. Bassett; treasurer, Mrs. Merton Merrier; visiting committee convener, Mrs. Fred Weston; press secre- tary, Mrs. A. M, Bassett, Mrs. E. A. Featherston resigned as card and flower secretary; and it was left to the president to name 'the successor. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Scotchmer an January 9. Trinity WA Has Annual :Event Elects Officers Mayfield Correspondent) The annual meeting of Trin- ity Branch Women's Auxiliary was held at the home of Mrs., Carl E. Diehl on Thursday afternoon, December 7. It was chaired by the president, Mrs, Emerson Heard •and opened with the singing of "Jesus Calls us O'er the Tumult", Mrs. E. A, Featherston was at the piano. The Rev, E. 3, B. Harrison led in the litany and remem- bered' those attending the world council of churches meeting just concluded in New India, Mrs. R. J. Larson read the gospel for St. Andrew's Day from St. Matthew, chapter 4. Mrs, J. 13, Higgins gave the secretarial report. Mrs. R. J. Larson read a favourable finan- sial statement, including a do- nation of $10 from the Trinity Club birthday box. Mrs. E. A. Featherston, Liv- ing Message secretary, read a letter from the Diocesan secre- tary, Miss Ethel Greenwood, Woodstock, drawing attention, to the 75th anniversary of Huron Diocesan Board next year, and the suitability of the Living Message as a Christmas Mrs. P, Weston, dorcas sec- retary, read letters of thanks for quilts from Canon W. J. Zimmerman, Mohawk Institute, and a box of clothing, gifts and a quilt shipped this autumn to Archdeacon A. F. Spence, N. Battleford, Sask. It was decided to give a do- nation to the Bishop of Amrit- sar, India, whose diocese was ravaged by floods in August, Mrs. P. Weston was instruct- ed to purchase a pair of sheets' for the Mohawk Institute and it was decided to send to the Rev. George Hamilton, Ft. Simpson Diocese of The Arctic, who addressed a meeting in the parish hall in October, a Christ- mas gift. The Rev. E. J. B. Harrison presided for the election of of- ficers. He named Mrs. J. M. Stewart and Mrs. Carl Diehl scrutineers. The slate for 1962 is: honourary president, Mrs. J. M. Stewart; president, Mrs. Emerson Heard; vice- president, Mrs. Carl E. Mrs. Emerson Heard and Mrs. J. M. Stewart were joint hostesses for the pre-Christmas tea hour which followed. Bayfield Obituary Mrs. G. Lawrason (Bayfield Correspondent) The death occurred at Hur- onview, Clinton, of Isabella Hohner, widow of George Law- rason, Bayfield, on Thursday, Decemiber 7, at 11.30 a.m., ink her 96th year. ssf Born in Hay Township, Aug- ust 28, 1866, she was' the old- est girl and second child in the family of the late Mat- thew Hohner and Catherine Matter (two girls and two boys died in childhood' and five bro- thers predeceased her). When she was 12 years of age the family moved to Stanley Town- ship where she had been a resi- dent ever since. In 1894 she was married to George Lawrason and came to reside on the Bayfield Bound- ary Road North, which was her home until she entered Clinton Public Hospital on August 30. She had seemed languid when' she was feted the previous Sunday at a family gathering in the arena on her 95th birthday, Up until this time Mrs. Law- rason had taken an active in- terest in all around her. 'She was always ready for a weekly trip to Zurich. Last winter she made a quilt herself and still attempted to work in the gard- en, and pot her flowers'. Death came as the result of pneu- monia. Her 'husband predeceased her June 5, 1917, She waS a mem- ber of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son Samuel Lawrason, Listowel, and a daughter Caroline (Mrs. Nel- son Heard), Hayfield; a grand- son, Lloyd Heard, Varna, and three great ,grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Westlake funeral home, Zurich, on Saturday, Decem- ber 9, 1961. It was in charge of the Rev. Ross MacDonald, Hensall. Interment was made in Hayfield Cemetery. Pall-bearers were nephews: Walter Hohner, Harvey Hahn- duty on Tuesday morning, R. J. Larsen visited his. son Clarence and family, and Mr, and Mrs. L, B. Smith accomp- anied by Mrs. Harold King were the guests of their dau- ghter, Mrs. Ed Rowse and fam- ily, London from Thursday to Saturday, Mr. and Mrs, E, A, Feather- ston, Mrs. R. J. Larson and Mrs. L, B. Smith returned home on 'Tuesday after spending a couple of days in London, Cathy and Vicki Prowse returned to the village with their grand- mother, Mrs. Smith, to visit this week. Mr. and Mrs, Harold Penhale, Bronson Line, Stanley Town- ship, motored to London with their son Torn and wife for the weekend. They visited Mrs. H. Penhale's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott, and• Mr. and Mrs. Tom Penhale Were the guests of Mr. and Mrs, William C. Parker and family. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Penhale over the first weekend in December were Mr, and Mrs, Walter Sc- ott, Herman Johnson and Mass yersam Anna Johnson, London.
