the Department of Agriculture
office here yesterday, and took
a full day training course in.
conducting the 4-H Homemak-
er club of the coming season,
Miss Isabel Gilchrist, home
economist for the county was
in charge, and dinner was en -
noon.
Decoration Day Held
At Clinton Cemetery
Decoration Day at Clinton
Cemetery was carried out un-
der the Sponsorship of ,the
Clinton Branch 140, Royal Can-
adian Legion on Sunday, Aug-
ust
ugust 27. Rev. Grant Mills was
chairman for the occasion.
Rev. T. J. Pitt, Varna, made
a brief :address, in which he
congratulated' the Legion mem-
bers for organizing the Decora-
tion Day.
Prior to the service a wreath
wee placed at the cenotaph on
the Post Office by Harold Mc-
Pherson, second vice-president
of bhe Legion. Following the
service a wreath was laid at
the veteran's plot in the ceme-
tery by the in -coming Zone
Commander Douglas Andrews,
and first vice-president J. D.
Thorndike.
Music was provided by the
Clinton :Citizens Band, directed
by Bandmaster George Wonch.

At Cornerstone Ceremony
Mrs. Mary Pryde, Exeter, widow of the late Thom-
as Pryde, former member in the Legislative As-
sembly for Huron County, officially laid the corner-
stone for the new mental hospital being built south
of Goderich on the Blue Water Highway. Also
present for the ceremony was Premier Leslie Frost,
left. The building will be known as the Pude

Devotions were by Mrs. Grant
Mills on the •theane "The Com-
munity". Bible reading was
from mark 5: 13-16.
Correspondence secretary
Mrs. W. M. Aiken read thank
you notes and two verbal th-
anks were expressed. Reponts
of committees were given. Sev-
eral 'reported calks made dur-
ing the holiday months. Mrs.
J. B. Levis reported sending
flowers to 11 sick and shut-ins,
Mrs. W. M. Aiken gave a
reading, "do not judge too
hard,"
As this year is the 75th an-
niversary of the organization
of 'the WA at Ontario Street,
some discussion was held as to
how to recognize the fact. De-
cision was made to leave ar-
rangements in the hands of the
executive.
Lunch was served by ladies
of Highway 4 and Concessions
2 and 4. Mrs. Percy Gibbings
and Mrs. Ivan Hoggarth were
conveners. Appreciation to the
lunch and ;program committees
was expressed by Mns. Howard
Trewantha.

High cost of dogs running
at large in the municipality of
Tuckersmith was a weighty
problem before council of that
township at their meeting on
September 5. Warden Ivan For-
syth, reeve of Tuckersmith,
presided.
Two affidavits with accomp-
anying live stock valuator re-
ports were presented. Dr. M.
W. Stapleton received 8515 and
Allister Broadfoat 3535 for
damages resulting from mar-
auding dogs killing and injur-
ing their sheep.

hour and ten cents a mile..
A grant of 3225 was made to
the Seaforth Agricultural Soc-
iety. The assessment roll was
