Robert P, Watson
The death occurred on Tues-
day: evening, August I., in Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, of
Robert P. Watson,. Brucefield,
following a year's illness. Mr.
Watson was in his 78th year,
Born in Stanley Township, he.
was educated at 55 3, Tucker-
smith and was married at Clin-
ton on Octr.her 28, 1914, to
Janet Burdge who predeceased
him on Septemher 19, 1900,
Surviving are two daughters
and a son: Margaret, Mrs. Gil.
bert Beecroft, Be'grave; Miss.
Janet Watson, Aylmer, and
Robert M, Watson, London;
also four grandchildren.
Mr. Watson was a member of
Brucefield United Church and
had been an elder and Clerk
of the session for 36 years.
He was a member of Tucker-
smith Council for six years dur-
ing the twenties and was very
active in community welfare.
Funeral service on Friday,
August 4 from Brucefield Un-
ited Church by the Rev. A, H.
Johnston. Interment in Bay-
field Cemetery.
Harry B. Date
A former immigration officer
at Goderich, Harry B, ("Bud")
Date, 3a, died in a fire Sunday
August 6, in Hotel Queen Alex
andra at Prescott, Ontario, He
had been. posted on temporary
immigration duty at Prescott
for one week,
Eleven other persons escaped
from the hotel which the early
morning blaze reduced to a
shell before the fire was br-
ought under control. Cause of
the fire was unknown.
"Bud" Date was in charge
of the inunigration office at
Goderich about 1952 to 1955
at a time when many Europ-
eans, principally Dutch, were
settling in the Goderich area,
After leaving Goderich, "Bud"
went to Germany for two years
on immigration duties, The im-
migration office at Goderich
was subsequently discontinued
and moved to Stratford.
He was a member of branch
109 of the Canadian Legion at
Goderich and was for a time
secretary of the branch, During
World War II, he was awarded
the Distinguished Flying Cross
while serving with the RCAF.
A native of .Sarnia, big home
was at 316 Wellington street,
Sarnia. Surviving are his wife,
Katherine, daughters, Jane and
Mary Ann, and seas, Michael,
Harry and Bernard; also his
parents, four sisters and two
brothers.
The funeral service was held
at Sarnia on August 9 with in-
terment in Lakeview cemetery.
William Buchanan •
William Buchanan, Hensall,
passed away in Clinton Public
Kospiitiai on Tuesday, August 8,
Where he had been a patient
for the past four inonths, in his
83rd year,
He was born in Tuckersmith
Township, where he ,aimed,
making his home in Hensall,
He was a member of Hensall
United Church,
Surviving are one son, Keith
Buchanan, Hensall; three sis-
ters, Miss Margaret Buchanan,
and' Mrs. George (Jessie) Arm-
strong, Hensall; Miss Mary
Buchanan, Toronto; one broth-
er, Samuel Budhanan, Hensall,
and four grandsons, His wife,
the former Ethel Fulton, pas-
sed away 41 years ago.
Service from the Benthron
funeral chapel Thursday, Aug-
ust 10, with Rev. Currie Win-
law officiating. Burial in Hen-
sel). Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Alena E. Steels
Mrs. Alena Elizabeth Steels
died Thursday, August 10 in
Clinton Public Hospital. She
was 20.
Born in Seaforth, she was a
daughter of Mrs, Grace Munro,
Clinton. She moved to Goder-
ich as a young girl, and lived
in Clinton for the past four
years where she was employed
at Canada Packers poultry pl-
ant.
Besides her mother, she is
survived by two children, Mary
Helen and Karen Theresa; one
sister, Miss Irene Munro, Wind-
sor; two brothers, Harvey and
William Munro, both of God-
erich.

eral home, Goderich, Saturday,
August 12 by the Rev. W. S.

Church. Burial in Maitlandbank
Cemetery, Seaforth,
Noah S. Bender
Funeral service was conduct-
ed on Saturday, August 12 at
the Steinman Amish Mennon-
ite Church, Wilmot Township,
for Noah S. Bender, 80, New
Hamburg. Interment was in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Bender was a retired
fanner, widower of the late
Magdeline Ruby,
Surviving are six sons, Mel-
vin, Ailsa Craig; Reuben and
Ezra, both of New Hamburg;
Elton, Varna; Curtis, Spring
Bay; Ervin, Baden; three dau-
ghters, Miss Verde, New Ham-
burg; Mrs, Reuben (Fanny)
Gingerich, Ailsa Craig; and
Mrs. Curtis (Mary) Gingerioh,
Zurich; one brother, Simon,
Ailsa Craig and two sisters,
Mrs. Katie Baechler, New Ham-
burg; Mrs. Mary Ruby, Albu-
querque, New Mexico.

Tops Field Crop
Competition
Alvin Bottles, RR 2, Bayfield,
had the best field score in the
field crop competition carried
out this year in connection with
the Bayfield Fall Fair. He
scored 85 with his Garry oats.
Second place was earned by
John Yeo, RR 1, Goderich, also
with Garry oats, and a score of
82.

loll on Saturday, August 5, for
the wedding of Shirley Gert-
rude Sutter, Reg. N., and Ro-
bert Pollock.
The bride is the daughter of
Mn and Mrs. John Sutter, aim.
ton, and the bridegroom is the
son of the late Mr, and. Mrs.
Totilock, formerly of Belfast,
Ireland,
Rev, Grant Mills, Clinton, .as-
sisted by Canon R. T. Apple-
yard, Preston, performed the
double-ring ceremony,
Traditional bridal music was
provided at the organ by Nel-

with a fitted bodice, v-neckline,
and a bouffant skirt. The brid-
al veil of embroidered nylon
was caught by a coronet of
pearls and rhinestones and she
carried a white Bible iglitb
mauve orchid,
Mrs. R. B. Sutter was mat,.

law. Her dress, designed on aim-,
ilar lines to the bride's was of
lilac chiffon over taffeta. She
wore matching accessories and
carried a bouquet of white car-
nations.

church parlor, the bride's moth-
er wore a dress of dusty rose

and a corsage of red roses,
An honored guest was the
bride's 95 year-old grandmother
Mrs. Emma Sutter, who wore a
dress of lilac printed silk with
matching accessories and a
corsage of yellow roses,
For a wedding trip to IVIus-
kolva, the bride chose a pink
printed silk sheath dress with
contrasting chartreuse jacket,
white accessories, and a corsage
of white roses. On their re-
turn; Mr. and Mrs. Pollock
will reside in Preston,

MR. AND MRS. JOHN McFARLANE TAYLOR
were married in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Clinton
on Saturday, August 5. The bride is Jayne Mary,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Snell, RR 1,
Clinton and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Taylor, RR 3, Walton. The young couple will
live in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
