dent, was in charge, The de-
votional theme "Carry the
Torch" was .carried out by Mrs.
Earl Campbell and Miss .Nan-
nun Murray, assisted by Mrs.
Percy Campbell and Mrs, Har-
vey Hyde, Mrs. munn presided
at the piano,
Mrs. George Lamont, Mitchell
guest speaker, spoke on "The
Theer L's: Love, Life and
Laughter," pointing out, ."We
can live Life to its, fullest if
we practise ,Christian Love and
look on the bright side. She
was introduced by Mrs. Dougail
and thanked by Mrs. Sam
Dougall.
Mrs. John Girot, Exeter,
sang a solo, "Nearer My God
To Thee" a verse sung in Eng-
lish, Spanish and French, ac-
companied by Mrs. Harry St-
rang at the piano.
A social hour and lunch fol-
lowed under the direction of
Mrs. Mac Dougall, Mrs. Clar-
ence Volland and Mrs. Percy
Campbell. The two-tier birth-
day cake was cut by Mrs. R.
Y. Ma.cLateri,
Mrs. Alex McGregor and Mrs.
Archie Hoggarth were in ch-
arge of the decorations.

50th annual reunion 'at Turnbull
Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Hodgins conducted a full line
of sports.

Event At 'Bend"

Thursday, June 15 was obser-
ved as ladies' night when Ex-
eter and Hensel]. Kinsmen joint-
ly entertained members of their
Kinette Clubs to a smorgasbord
at the Bluewater Motel, Grand
Bend. Highlight of the even-
ing was when Exeter Kinsmen
and Kinettes preSented 100
percent attendance tabs.
President Bill Clement was
presented a plaque from his
club for his year as president.
Mrs. Ross Jinks, retiring pres-
ident of Hensall Kinettes was
presented a gift and Mrs. Wil-
lion Clement, :assistant bulletin
editor for the Hensall Kinsmen
Club received a gift. Lucky
draws were won by Governor
Bill Mickle arid Mrs. Jim Hyde.
A dance concluded' the evening.
The Hen. Matthew Dymond,
M./Dieter of Health, Province of
Ontario, will officially open the
new wing at. South Huron Hos-
pital, gxeter, on Sunday, June
25 at 2 Pni.
Mrs. William Taylor and lit,
tie daughter Mary Arm, of
McKenzie Island, are vacation-
ing with relatives in Hensall
and area.
Paving of Wellington Street
from Mill Street on to King is
almost Completed, Lavis Con-
tracting Co., Clinton, is in
charge.
Larry Simpson, five-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Simpson, Exeter, is resting
comfortably in South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, from injuries
received when 'he ran in front
of a car driven by LAC Clar-
ence Hoy, Hensall. Stationed
at RCAF Station Centralia,
Mr. Hoy was driving south on
main street, Exeter, He skid-
ded 22 feet when he applied
the brakes, but the bumper
hit the child throwing him a
dstance of 15 feet onto the
soft shoulder. He suffered a
concussion and fractured nose.
The accident happened Sun-
day morning while the children
were leaving Sunday School at
Main Street United Church.
Evening Auxiliary
The Evening Auxiliary of the
United Church met Monday
evening, June 12 with Mrs. Ron
Mock presiding. Mrs, Don
Joynt took the devotional, the
theme, — "Our Responsibili-
ties to Society." Scripture pas-
sages were read by Mrs. Joynt
and prayer offered by Mrs.
Douglas Cook, who also gave
the study, reviewing the last
chapter of the study book,
"The Turning World", "Unity
Begins At Home".
Mrs. Clare McBride and Bob
Forrest played several delight-
ful trumpet duets. Plans were
discussed for a bazaar, tea, and
bake sale in the fall,
Mrs, Bryan Kyle reported for
the visiting committee and
Mrs. John Heal for the treasur-
er's report. Mrs. C. Christie
showed a film "We are all
Brothers", and Mrs. Edison
Forrest also showed pictures
on Mexico taken by Miss Mild-
red Forrest. Luncheon was
served. Hostesses were Mrs.
Dave Kyle and Mrs. Bryan
Kyle.

Mrs. Gertrude Datars, Zur-
ich, entertained at a trousseau
tea an Saturday, June 10 for
her only daughter Marion, wh-
ose marriage to Ronald' Larne
Coleman, Verna, took place on
Saturday, June 17 at St. Pet-
er's Lutheran Church, Zurich.
Theohestess, the bride-elect and
Mrs. Gladys Coleman, mother of
the groom, received guests.
Miss Lynda Thiel was in charge
of the register.
Mrs. Phoebe Weber, Zurich,
grandmother of the bride and
Mrs. Mary Ann Stephenson,
Hensall, grandmother of the
groom, poured tea in the af-
ternoon at a table covered with
white lace, centered by a three
tier wedding cake flanked by
pink and white streamers.
Tea assistants were Mrs. Er-
ic Sande and Mrs. Orval Sdh-
ilbe. Pouring tea In 'the even-
ing were, Mrs. Hugh Thiel and
Mrs. George Stephenson. Tea
assistants were Mrs. Ken Step-
henson and Mrs. Keith Thiel.

Flood Control Plan

A flood control scheme to al-
leviate conditions near Rich-
mond Street in Hensall was ap-
proved by the Ausable River
Conservation Authority, T h e
problem 'area is flooded with
runoff following rains and snow-
fall in the 260 acres surround-
ing it.
The $3,510 cost is to be shar-
ed 50-50 between the Ontario
government and the municipal-
ities of Hensall and Tucker..
