°I ouseclean" Bear
This has .been a busy week
for several of the members of
Huron Fish and Game Conser-
vation Association, Thursday
evening a canvas was conduct-
ed in St. George's Ward on be-
half of the Salvation Army's
current Red Shield campaign.
Chairman of the canvas. was
Ivan Turner. Other canvassers
were Donald Jefferson, Lonnie
Matthews:, Erie Switzer, Donald
Switzer, Barret Taylor, Earl
Doucette, Eric Collins, Louis
Freeman, Glenn Lockhart and
his two sons, Don and Bruce.
Results were quite graltifyinrgg,
and thanks are extended to
citizens of St. George's Ward.
A work party was organized
on the weekend, and Moses, the
Bear was treated to a spring
house-cleaning of his pen. This
is a major operation. First he
was enticed into his den with
much coaxing and a generous
helping of food—raw eggsand
sweets. He went part way in
several times before he finally
went far enough that the slid-
ing door could be dropped into
place. Then his pen was clean-
ed.
Next a huge locomotive bail-
er was moved into position with
one end next the door of the
den and the other against the
end of the pen. The den door
was lifted and Moses came out
into the boiler. The gate was
dropped, and the bear was then
imprisoned inside the boiler.
The lid of the den was lifted
and the inside was cleaned out
and' the whole pen was disin-
fe'eted.
With the lid lowered on the
den, Moses was returned to it,
and once more locked M. Then
the boiler was moved to the
front of the pen and Moses was
free to romp around the fresh
clean pen.
The job took about two hours
to complete. The following
members took part in the op-
eration: Stewart Taylor, Jack
Sturdy, Goldie Smith, Fred
MacDonald, Barret Taylor, Wil-
liam Glew and Ivan: Turner.
As soon as the weather is
fit, members are .asked to come
down to the club house and help
clean up the yard and wash
windows. Many hands make
light work.
The public is cordially invit-
ed to come and look over the
club's outdoor zoo, but are re-
quested not to molest the ani-
mals and birds.
