A stone 'mason 'by trade he was engaged' for many years in cement ponstrnction. But hard work has not brought a stoop to his shoulders. He bolicls himself erect and walks with a spring in his step of a man half his years, nine was when many enjoy- ed dancing to the tune from , his fiddle. And he could "trip the light fantastic" with any of them. But those days have gone his he is content now with his garden and household dutieS, He lives alone in his cottage on Main Street and does all his own work, Come winter, he goes to F'erndale, Mich., to his son Harold's. Frank Glew, Clinton, and Ronald Jewitt, Londesbom, Stu.-• dents at Stratford Teachers College, are doing practice teaching in Bayfield this week under Mrs. William C. Parker. WMS Elects The Women's Missionary So- ciety of St. Andrew's. United Church held their annual meet- ing on Thursday of last week, at the parsonage. With Mrs, H. Hohner, president, in the chair, there Was a good -atten- dance of some 30 ladies, The nominating committee reported success' and almost all officers will continue for 1961, with two exceptions; 'Mrs. W. Bayfield Orange Lodge Names 1961 Officers (Baylleld Correspondent) The annual meeting of LOL No. 24 was held at the Lodge room on Monday evening with a good attendance. Reports showed a good year. Officers for 1961 are: Wor- shipful Master, Lloyd Miller; deputy master, Dewar Talbot; recording secretary, William Malwain; chaplain, William E. Parker; treasurer, Harold Stin- son; financial secretary, John Watson; marshall, Harold Pen- hale; first lecturer, Emerson Heard; second lecturer, Ninian Heard; committee men, Mal- colm Toms, Reg. Miller, Thom- as Sherritt, Bob Mcilwain, Jim Boyce. Tyler, Lindsay Smith. After short addresses by the newly appointed officers, Lod- ge was closed. The members then enjoyed a lunch. Mrs. Louis Pe oulie (Bay-field Correspondent) The former Frances M. Ev- ans, familarly known to friends here as "Erankie", daughter of the late William Evans and Martha Neilly, Sauble Line, Stanley Township, died in Dal- las, Texas, on Wednesday, No- vember 30, 1960. Born June 13, 1885 in the town of Bradford, she came to this district with her par- ents when they moved to the old Castle farm (now owned by Len Talbot, Blue Water Highway) in 1902. During the years she spent here she was active in Young People's work in the Presbyterian Church. Many re- call a concert which she dir- ected in those 'day's. She left Bayfield to train as a nurse in Buffalo. When she enlisted in the American Expeditionary Force Nurses Corps in World War One, she was superintendent of Lockport Hospital, N.Y. Going overseas in 1917, she served through the war in Fr- ance and Germany. Returning to the United St- ates she was nursing in a base hospital in New Mexico when she met her future husband. They lived for years at Port Arthur, Texas, until her hus- band was moved to Head Of- fice, Texaco Oil Co., Dallas Texas. The deceased woman was ac- tive in politics and was the only woman elected to the Board of Control in Port Ar- thur, Texas. She (is survived by a niece, Mrs. A. H. McPherson and a nephew, Evans Cameron, Tor- onto. Her husband predeceased her two years ago. At Mrs. Pemoulie's request her ashes and those of her husband will be interred in the Evans family plot in Bayfield Cemetery. Mrs. A. H. McPherson (form- erly Miss Isobel Cameron) Sim- coe travelled by air lines to Dallas, Texas, last week to at- tend the funeral service. Fralick is the incoming treas- urer and Mrs. A. Dunn, birth- day box secretary, Rev. C. Smith conducted . 'the installa- tion ceremony. White Gift A white gift service was held in St, Andrew's United Church on Sunday morning. The Sun- day School attended in a body and the .superintendant, Ted Dunn, was in charge, Rev, C, Smith gave the address, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Clements Milton, visited with James Drumond and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pries- tap, Mitchell, called Sunday at the home of the latter's father, Robert Thompson. Mr. and. Harold Thiel, Zurich, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Finkbeiner and family on Sunday evening. Mrs. Doig, who is a patient in Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, its reported as in fair condition and improving slow- ly. Mr. and Mrs. James Drum- mond, Toronto, visited during the past week with. Mrs. James Drummond, Kippen at St. Jos- eph's Hospital, London. The Sunday School teachers of St. Andrew's United Church, met at the home of Mrs. John Sinclair, to make arrangements for a Christmas concert an December 19. Mrs. Edna Oswald, Zurich, who had been confined to Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, with pneumonia, is at present convalescing with her grand- daughter, Mrs. Howard Fink- beiner. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Alderdice attended the wedding of a br- other, Kenneth Alderdice and Nancy Mae Wells on Saturday afternoon in Collingwood Pres- byterian Church. Baptism Rites of infant baptism were administered at St. Andrew's United Church, Kippen, on. Sun- day to Leslie Ray Consitt, in- fant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Consitt, and John Carl Bin- nendyk, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Binnendyk. Margaret Ann Gauld Mrs. Margaret Ann Gauld, 93, former missionary in For-' mosa, widow of the late Rev. William Gaud, died in Guelph on Sunday at the home of a 'daughter, Dr. Flora Little. Mrs. Gauld was a native of Klippen. The former Margaret Ann Bayfield Lions Feather Party Has 25 Winners (Bayfleld Correspondent The Lions Club annual turkey bingo held in the Town Hall on Friday night was attended by 125 persons. Reg. Francis cal- led out the numbers, Leslie El- liott turned the cage and Char- les Secrtchmer handed out the turkeys to the winners. Other Lions assisted in various ways. Those who won the 25 tur- Mellis, she and her husband went to Formosa in 1892. Mr. Guild died in 1923. She con- tinued in missionary work until 1939 when she came to Guelph to live with her daughter. She was active in various organiz- ations of Chalmers United Church: Surviving are two daughters, Miss Greta Gauld in Formosa, and Mrs. D, H. Stevens, Eng- land. The body was at the home of her daughter until Tues- day when service was held in Chalmers United Church and interment in Woodlawn Cem- etery. There was a large attendance. The president, Mrs. Charles Bell presided and opened with a short reading and hymn. Mrs. Lloyd Makins gave the secretary's report and Miss J. Stirling gave the treasurer's report which showed a nice balance. A reading entitled, "Christ- mas Season •a time of Promis- es" was given by Mrs. Bell. Calendars were distributed and 'parcels for shut-ins are to be left at the church or Mrs. Bell's by December 18. A slate of officers was pres- ented by the president, The Rev. W. C. Smith installed them for 1901 as follows: president, Mrs. Charles Bell; first vice-president, Mrs, Bert Greer; second vice-president, Mrs, John Campbell; third vice- president, Mrs, Logan Cleave; Secretary, Mrs. Lloyd Makins; assistant seeretary,. Mrs. John MacKenzie; treasurer, Miss J. Mrs, Bell closed the. meet- ing. Afterwards a dainty lunch was served'.
