Loyal Orange Lodge held a
card party on Tuesday, Nov-
ember 29 with a very good at-
tendance, Winners were ladies
high, Mrs. John Woon, ladies
lone hands, Mrs, Alex Mustard,
ladies low, Mrs. Henry Simian;
men's high, Henry Slornan,
men's lone hands, Harold Crit-
tenden; men's low, John Woon.
A draw on a box of choco-
lates was won by Mrs. Tom
Deeves. Another card party,
sponsored by LOL 'is scheduled
far Tuesday, December. 6 at
8,30 p.m. All proceeds to go

Funeral services were held
on Monday at St, George for
Mrs. Guy Durham who passed
away in the Brantford neepilt-
al on Friday, November 25.
Born in Auburn in 1880, she
Was Cora Belle Ferguson, daus
ghter of the late Mr. and Mrs,
John Ferguson.
For many Years she was a
eahool teacher at Wiarton, One-
den, Cainsville, Unionville, and
Aohurn before she married and
went to reside at St. George,
She moved to Brantford last
year and was a life member
of the W,M.S, and a member
for many years of the Women's
Institute.
Her husband predeceased her
15. yeare. ago, She is survived
by two brothers, Raymond, of
Montreal and. Lloyd, Goderich;
also four sisters, Mrs. Hattie
Taylor, Victoria, )3.c; Mrs.
Maud Fremlin, Auburn; Miss
May Ferguson, Brantford, (who
resided with Mrs, Durham) and
Mrs. Chester (Alberda) Taylor,
St. Helene. Burial was in St,
George Cemetery,

Mrs. Ellen J. Cox
Service was conducted from
the Ball and Mutch funeral
home, 153 High Street, Clinton,
on Monday afternoon, Novem-
ber 14 for Mrs. Ellen J, Cox,
who died after a lengthy ill-
ness in Thamer Nursing Home,
Church Street, Seaforth, an
Friday, Novemlber 11, in her
91st year. Rev, Charles Inder,
St. Paul's Anglican Church, Cl-
inton, officiated and interment
was in Exeter Cemetery.
Pall-bearers were great-
nephews and neighbours, Carl,
James, Ray and Alvin Cox, Ed-
ward Grealis and Grant Rath.
Mrs. Cox was born Ellen J.
Hicks, on January 10, 1870, in
Osborne Township, the daugh-
ter of Mary Jane Hubert and
Daniel Hicks. She was married
to Darius Edwards on April 5,
1899. They farmed on the 2nd
Concession of McGillivary
Township, until his death on
July 14, 1914. On January 31,
1916, she married Robert Y.
Cox, farmed on the 6th of
Goderich Township.
She resided at 23 Huron St.
Clinton from February, 1929,
until November of this year.
Mr. Cox predeceased her on
July 5, 1934. She was a mem-
ber of Porter's Hill United
Church, Godenich Township.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. William (Edna) Fulford,
129 Queen Street, Clinton; a
step-son, Harry Y. Cox, 91
Wentworth St. S., Hamilton;
a grandson, Lloyd Fulford, 33
Kingswood Rd. Oakville, Ont.;
a niece, Mrs. Ma Warren, 202
Broughdale Ave., London; and
several cousins and other rel-
atives.
The funeral was attended by
relatives and friends from Lon-
don, Stratfo.d, To onto, God-.
erich, Seafooth, Kirhton and
surrounding districts.

Friendship Club
Hears About
Trip to Britain
Members of St. Paul's Fr-
iendship Club met in the par-
ish hall on Wednesday even-
ing, November 23. A few items
of business were cleared up
and the highlight of the meet-
ing was an informal talk of
her recent trip to Britain by
Mrs. John MacKinnon, Hamil-
ton, who, as Miss Madelon
Hawkins, was an early pres-
ident of the club,
Before refreshments were
served, a large bale was packed
to be sent to Prince Albert,
Sask.
The next meeting will be
held on December 7 and the
members are asked to bring a
dozen cookies and a emall piece
of fruit cake to be used in
'the packing of the Christmas
baskets.

All members of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Girls' Club are
asked to attend a pot-luck
supper in the Sunday School
room of the church on Wednes-
day evening, December 7 at
6.30 p.m. Christmas gifts' will
be exchanged. All young ladies
of the congregation are cord-
ially 'invited.

Mrs. Francis Powell enter-
tained at a delightful trousseau
tea in honour of her daughter
Nancy last Saturday.
Mrs, Powell received her gu-
ests wearing a figured mantle
jersey dress with pink corsage
and was 'assisted by the moth-
er of the groom-to-be, Mrs,
Joseph Shaddick in moss green
crepe with yellow corsage. The
bride-to-be was lovely in royal
blue taffeta,
The lace-covered dining room
table was centred with a lovely
ethereal pink and white• ar-
• angement with lighted pink
candles. Baskets of white
'mums graced the dining room.
During the afternoon, tea was
poured by Mrs. John Middleton,
Goderich, Mrs. Lyon, Londes-
boro and Mrs. Roy Tyndall,
Clinton, and in the evening by
Mrs. Allan Shaddick, Londes-
bora, Mrs. Roy Tyndall 'and
Mrs. E. Layton of Clinton.
The guests were served by
Misses Sandra and Sharon Mid-
dleton assisted by Mrs. Gor-
don Cudmere, Mrs. Clarence
Patterson, Mrs. Elliott Layton
and Mrs. Jack Merrill.
The wedding 'gifts were dis-
played by Mrs. Murray lVfaitby,
Fergus, sister of the bride.
The bridal trousseau and
shower gifts were shown by
Mrs. Ross Middleton, Bayfield;
Mrs. Frank Potter an,d Mrs.
Lorne Tyndall, Clinton, in the
afternoon and by Mrs. Ken
Tyndall and Miss Marilyn Pot-
ter during 'the evening.
Mrs. Joseph Potter, Mrs.
D'Arcy Rathwell and Mrs. Mer-
ril assisted in the dining room
for the evening session.
Mrs, Ken Gibbings was in
charge of the guest book, whi-
ch recorded over 100 guests.
VISIT
"Stop the shooting — really
stop it!" was the unanimous
plea of the ladies attending
Clinton Women's Institute
meeting here on November 24.
Roll call was 'to be answered
by naming something they'd
like 'changed on TV.
Mrs. Mervyn Batkin presid-
ed for the meeting and Mrs,
N. Shepherd was 'at the piano.
Miss Bette Tillman, home
economist for Huron County,
gave a talk on spices, and
handed out charts to show
their origin and uses. A guess-
ing contest was held on the
twelve mast commonly used
spices, which was much enjoy-
ed.

Mrs. W, Thompson thanked
everyone taking part in the
meeting. The bake sale on No-
vember 26 in the council cham-
ber was quite a success. The
next WI meeting will be one
week earlier than usual, on De-
cember 15.
