Miss Hatter Sullen
Service will be conducted this

the late Miss Hatter Sullen,

Whitney funeral home, Sea-
forth, Interment will be in
Clinton Cemetery.
Miss Bullen was born in Clin-
ton, the daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. William Sullen.
She went to Seaforth. ten years
ago, and was a member of
Northside United Church.
Though ill for some time, she
was seriously ill for only the
past •two months, She passed
away in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London on Tuesday, September
20. She was in her 78th year.

Samuel Elton Rozell, 74, of
324 Wellington Street North,
Kitchener, died Tuesday, Sep-
tember 6 at Kitchener-Water-
loo Hospital after a lengthy
illness.
A son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Rozell, he was
born August 24, 1886, in Bruse
sels, and lived in Kitchener for
the past 31 years. He was
president of S. E. Rozell and
Sons Ltd., plumbing and heat-
ing contractors. He was a
chanter member of the Mission-
ary Tabernacle and formerly
superintendent of the Sunday
School,
Before moving to Kitchener
he lived in. Detroit, Mich., and
also a number of years in Cline
ton.
He it survived by his wife,
the former Maude Cheese-
brough; two sons, Morris and
Arthur, both of Kitchener; one
daughter, Mrs, R. B. (Marilyn)
McKee, Springfield, Pa.; two
sisters, Mrs. Maggie Manning,
Brussels and .Mr's Roy Plum-
steel, Clinton; 11 grandchildren
and one great-grandson. He
was predeceased by two sons,
The body was at 'the Ratz-
Bechtel funeral home until Fri-
day, September 9, at 11 ean,
when removal was made to the
Missionary Tabernacle and ser-
vice Was conducted there that
afternoon by Rev. D. J, Wilki t-
son. Burial was in Woodland
Cemetery.

Girls Club Has
New Member;
Make Fall Plans
The September meeting of
the Girls' Club. of St, Andrew's
Presbyterian Church was held
Tuesday evening, September 13
with several members present.
One new member, Mrs, Robert
Remoute was welcomed to the
club. In the Absence of the
president, Mrs. Howard Cowan
presided over the meeting.
Mrs, Viola Lamptnan read
Psalm 100 and the Lord's Pray-
er was repeated in unison
Arrangements were made for
catering to a wedding; also
members were reminded. to get
their articles for sewing ready
for the bazaar on October. 28,
Miss' Winnifred Bishop read a
short theme entitled "God's
Geography". Lunch was served
by hostess, Mrs. Frank Cook,
Miss Helen Anderson, and Mrs.
Fred' Anderson.

Summerhill Club
To Hold Hobo
Teas for a Month
The Sumrnerbill Ladies Club
met at the home of Mrs. Allan
Neal on September 14 for their
regular meeting. There were
20 members and four visitors
present. Mrs. George Wright
presided and opened -the meet-
ing with a poem, "Farewell
To Summer". Mrs. Charles
Merrill and Mrs. Donald Mc-
Lean are to go to the hospital
auxiliary meeting in October.
They decided to have hobo
teas in the afternoon and even-
ing for a month, Each hostess
that has a tea to being the
proceeds to the October meet-
ing.
The program started with a
"flowery romance contest" by
Mrs. James Snell. This was
won by Mrs. Neville Forbes.
Mrs. Lloyd Stewart had a
"Farmer's contest" won, by
Mrs. Chester Farquhar. Mrs.
Dennis Penfound had a "name
the place" contest. Mrs. Nor-
man Ball won the raffle.
The next meeting will be
'held at 'the home of Mrs. Den-
nis Penfound on October 12.
Roll call is to be answered' by
a "cooking hint". Those in
care of the lunch will be Mee,
John IVIurch, Mrs. Chester Far-

75th anniversary of the Huron-

Mrs, D. J. Lane, Clinton,
lighted the 75 candles on the
huge anniversary cake. She was
assisted by the Rev. D. J. Lane.
Mrs, A. H. Taylor, Goderich,
who has belonged to theeleres-
byterial for 40 years, had the
honour of cutting the cake.
The first meeting of the Pres-
byterial was held in the same
church in Seaforth.

Mrs, Donald McGregor was
hostess at her home on Satur-
day evening, August 20 for
Miss Katherine McGregor, when
about 25 friends met for a cup
and saucer shower. Miss Norma
Love was the capable mistress
of ceremonies for the evening.
Mrs. Fred McGregor enter-
tained with -a grocery shower
an Thursday evening, Septem-
ber 1.
The community held a misc-
ellaneous shower in the school-
room of the church on Septem-
ber 8, with hostesses Mrs, Wal-
ter Moffat and Mrs. Frank Mc-
Cowan,
About 120 guests attended
the trousseau tea held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John
McGregor in honour of their
daughter Katherine on Septem-
ber 17. Guests were received
by the bride-elect, her mother,
and her fiance's mother, Mrs,
Calvin Horton.
Mrs. James. Hay, grandmoth-
er of the groom; Miss Kate
McGregor and Miss Margaret
McGregor, aunts of the bride,
poured tea in the afternoon.
In the evening Mrs. Frank Mc-
Gregor, aunt of the bride and
Mrs. Lorne Pepper, aunt of the
groom poured tea.
Guests were served by Misses
Norma Love, Joan McGowan,
Helen Stewart and Mrs, Fred
McGregor. Girl friends in ch-
arge of upstairs rooms were
Miss Ann McCowan, Joan Mc-
Cowan, Nancy Powell, Phyllis
Edwards, Jean McGregor and
Jane Horton.
In the afternoon Bill Mc-
Gregor was in charge of the
register and in the evening
Milda Pepper was in charge.
Others who helped were Mrs,
Ivy Johnson and Mrs. Gregor
McGregor.

Surprise Party
On their 25th wedding anni-
versary, September 14, Mr. and
Mrs. Mervyn Batkin, Princess
Street, were entertained for
dinner at the Dominion. Hotel,
Zurich, by Mr. and Mrs', Lloyd
Batkin, their attendants at the
wedding in 1935,
Upon their return home they
found a surprise party waiting
them, for 40 relatives and close
friends had gathered for the
evening. They staged a mock
wedding ceremony which caus-
ed great merriment. A buffet
luncheon was served from a
table centred with a three tier
wedding cake.
The guests presented Mr. and
Mrs. Batkin with 'a swivel rock-
ea and their two daughters
Jane and Ruth Ann presented
a silver tea service, Their son
Bob, also joined in the prepar-
ations and the celebration..
Michael Greer
Funeral service for 13-year-
old Michael Greer, RR 3, Bay-
field, who met his death acci-
dentally when he fell off a
milk truck last Saturday, was
held on Tuesday afternoon, at
the Westlake funeral home in
Zurich.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ro-
bert (Bert) Greer, Michael was
born in. Stanley Township on
November 1, 1947.
The accident occurred on the
Blue Water Highway. Dewar
Talbot was •the driver of the
milk truck which was carrying
Michael and a boy friend on
the back.
Surviving besides the boy's
parents are three sisters, Mrs,
Raymond (Joyce) Robinson,
Goderich; Wendy Patricia and
Patti Lyn, both at home; two
grandmothers, Mrs. Evelyn
Greer and Mrs, Sarah Carnie,
both of Stanley Township, also
survive.
The funeral service was con-
ducted by Rev. Lawrence Tal-
bot, Harriston and Rev. Peter
Renner, Teeswater. Pall-bear-
ers were Ronald Scotchmer,
Ronald Westlake, Victor Cor-
nish, Garry Talbot, Bill Scot-
chmer and Alan Cleave. Flow-
er bearers were Ivan Steckle,
Jr., Gary Robinson, Doug Wal-
lace, Tudor Wayne, Jim Mc-
Curdy and John Talbot. Inter-
ment was in Bayfield Cemetery.

Refugee Year
Final figures on. the Huron
County World Refugee Year
eampaign were compiled re-
cently and a cheque for $13,-
507.59 was mailed September
7 by John G. Berry, Clerk-tr-
easurer of the county, to the
Canadian Headquarters in Tor-
onto.
Necessary expenses for the
campaign were $392.57, Office
help and canvassers were all
volunteer workers, and there
Were no paid WOrkets.
Mr. Berry 'thanks those who
assisted, and' the entire county
for the fine Contributions, made
as follows: County $500; towns
of Clinton $2,745.43; Exeter $1,-

Paige Phillips Gets
Supervisor's Degree
Miss Paige Phillips, youngest
daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Har-
old Phillips, Blyth, has been
granted her music supervisor's
degree by the Department of
Education. Miss Phillips, who
attended CDCI, graduated two
years ago from Stratford Tea-
chers College. She has just
commenced her second year on
the teaching staff of Sir John
A. MacDonald School, London,

ity Church, at "The Hut" on
Thursday last, Mrs. E. A.

Lucy R. Woods, president,
chaired the meeting.
Mrs. R. J. Larson led in the
Litany and WA prayer,
Mrs. Emerson Heard read the
Scripture St. Matt, 91 9-13.
Mrs. J. B. Higgins acted as
secretary for Mrs. T, W. Cast-.
le who was unable to attend.
Mrs. Larson gave the treasur-
er's statement.
Mrs. Higgins gave an inter-
esting resume of a chapter from
the Study book and Mrs. F.
Fraser gave the accompanying
prayer.
Mrs. C. Knuckey led in pray-
er for the prayer partner. The
rector, the Rev, E, 3. B, Har-
rison, remembered the sick of
the parish in the closing pray-
ers. Mrs. Featherston, hostess,
served tea.

Ontario where he has- been rec-
