Every woman should see
Western Fair's second annual
fashion show with. Fred Davis,
TV star, as commentator. This
show will be a Monday after-
noon grandstand feature Sept-
ember 1.2. Women will be ad-
mitted free to the fairgrounds
Monday until 3 p.m,
Harness racing will take ov-
er Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday afternoons, Septem-
ber 13 to 15, with -a special
Children's Day program, Junior
Olympics, Friday, All children
are guests of the fair Friday
with free admission to the
grounds. Saturday is Warriors
Day. Hundreds of war veter-
ans from London and Western
Ontario will parade -to the fair
and will be -grandstand guests
for the spectacular Armed
Services program.
Holders of advance sale tick-
ets will have a chance to win
three 1960 sedans at the Satur-
day night grandstand draw, and
some lucky person will win
Western Fair Shrine Show
House for $1. Tickets on this
house will be sold at the fair
all week by the Shriners. The
house is worth $25,000.
A government-designed base-
ment fallout shelter will be on
display close to the Shrine
Show House. It will be con-
structed and displayed by the
London Free Press as a public
service.
The Conklin Midway Shows
and Kkidyland will be back
with Many new midway rides
and shows. All this adds up to
"a day at Western Fair beats

conditions—were placed high
on 'the list of reasons why far-
mers -stay on the farm in a
recent survey of 300 farm
families in Ontario and Alberta
by Dr. Helen C. Abell, rural
sociologist, Federal Department
of Agriculture.

School Opens
School opened in Holmesville
on Tuesday, September 6 in
two different buildings. With
the opening of the new school,
John Siertsema takes over as
principal of the two schools,
and will teach the senior grad-
es, with Miss Mary Helen Yeo
teaching the intermediate gr-
ades in the same school. Mrs,
Francis Powell will be 'the tea-
cher for the junior grades in
the old school in the village.

arrived home on Friday after
spending a month in the West,
Miss Vera Lyon -arrived with
them for a month's vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wells mo-
tored to Carleton Place last
Thursday. Alex returned home
on Friday, leaving Mrs. Wells
to visit with cousins for two
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Case
with their three boys, Mr. and'
Mrs. Archie Weber, all of Ex-
eter called on the Stanley
Lyons, also on the Harry Dur-
nins on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin
attended the marriage of their
son Mervin, whose marriage to
Miss Marion Viola Oke, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs James Oke,
Science Hill was solemnized in
Anderson United Church on
September 3. About 65 guests
attended the reception in the
church parlor.

Toronto and attended "The Ex-
hibition",

ton, Bermuda, is holidaying at
the home of her parents, Mr.
