In the morn- ing the lodge paraded through the village headed by several members of the Bannockburn Pipe Band, Miss Myrtle Johnson, RN, Flint, Mich., has been visiting at the -home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dawson. She also atten- ded SS 3 Centennial, where she went to school. Miss Johnson has been an industrial nurse for the past 30 years in the Chevrolet manufacturing plant, Flint, Mich. Sunday School Anniversary The anniversary was held on Sunday, July 10 in Varna Unit- ed Church at 10.15 am. The Rev. T. J. Pitt conducted the service. Guest speaker was Ro- bert Southcott, Exeter, who gave a very interesting and helpful address to the children. He also spoke briefly to the adults. The two superintendents, A. Mustard and W. T. MeAsh distributed certificates for good attendance during the year, and also seals for the second year. The choir under the leadership of the organist, Mrs. R. Stir- ling, sang an appropriate chor- us, and the Sunday School sang the theme song of the Bible School. Bible School A very well attended and successful Vacation Bible School was held at the Varna United Church from July 4 to 8 in- clusive. There were 84 pupils registered. The teachers were Miss Rob- inson, beginners; Miss D. Tur- ner, primary; Fred McClymont, juniors; Rev. T. J. Pitt, 'teen- age group. Miss Carol Taylor was organist for morning de- votions. The teachers were ably assisted by ladies from Varna and Goshen Churches. The Orange Hall was kindly placed art the disposal of the Bible School, W. T. McAsh was recreation director. The theme Of the 1960 lesson was "The Teachings of Jesus." Financial assistance was generously giv- en by the Varna and Goshen WAs and also' y several friends of the school and the Varna and Goshen YPU, 50 CHEV.
