seph. Arthur Mere, 20, also of Sea.-
teeth, 'pleaded guilty and were each
fined $20 and coats, .er seven .days
in, jail. 'The incident occurred in.
'Clinton on April 16, when the two •
young men were arrested by Con-
stable Perdue and taken to the
pollee office, They were in posses-.

Magistrate Hays commented, "It's
time people became aware that
beer cannot be kept in one's car
except in transit from a legal place

Robert Robinson, 18, Clinton,

made a nuisance of himself at the

was taken to ,police headquarters

commented Magistrate Hays, "It
is not an offence to be drunk et
home if your family can stand yoU.
The law is concerned only. with
public places," He added that, since
Robinson could have been, charged
under the criminal code with creat-
ing a disturbance, the fine imposed
would be somewhat higher than
usual: $40 and costs or seven days
in jail, and warned that another
similar offence would bring a much
more severe penalty.

adjournment since an important
witness was not available.The case
will be heard June 8.

for the ladies, Lil Nahery with

The top team singles was the
Imps with 1,183 and for triples, the
Stare with 3,304.
Friendship Club
Hears Cancer Talk
Members of St. Penrs, Friend-
ship Club met last • Wednesday
evening. The feature .of the, pro-
gram was to have been the show-
ing of a film from the Cancer So-
ciety. Due to unexpected events
the film was not presented.
Mrs. Stella McRae very kindly
gave a talk on the subject which
was much appreciated by those in
theaudience. The members of the
:dub arranged a few more details
concerning plans for the pre-
Christmas bazaar. The next re-
gular meeting will be held on
Wednesday, May 18.
Field Day At Seaforth
For Huron-Perth Juniors
Date for this year's Junior Far-
mer Field Day for Perth and Hu-
ron Clubs is set• for Saturday,
June 11, in Seaforth Lions Park
and Seaforth District High. School.
Events begin at 10 in the morning,
and end with a dance in the Sea-
forth Legion Hall.

called that custom was •to supply
tile for drainage under the drive-
way, but that it was the house-
owners responsibility to build his
own driveway,
Reeve Crich said, "L believe
there's a lot of places •got black
top into driveways, which were
paid for by the town." He was
asked to name one or two, but did
not come up with any names.
Deputy Reeve Agnew asked
that Mary Street between North
Street and Erie Street be widen-
ed. He claimed that motorists
drove carelessly there, and dug
deep gouges in the lawn he kept
cut out to the road.

happened -in the past month, sin-
ce people sobered up?
Deputy Reeve: yes.
Mayor: Oh, well, , it's serious

Councillor J, D. Thorndike said
he would like more time to con-
sider the parking problems in
town, Ile said that MayoeFieher,
Goclerich, was interested in con-
sulting with Clinton over meters,
once more, ,to see if some agree-
ment could be reached.
Next council meeting will be
held on Wednesday, May 25.
The sides of the Mackinnon
drain will be levelled as soon as
it is dry enough, and a culvert will
go in where a small bridge once
was.

Regular Meeting
Reeve Tom Leiper conducted
the meeting of the council of the
Township of Hullett on Monday
evening, when the compensation
insurance was renewed with Ber-
nard Hall,, Blyth, and premium of
$197,50 ordered paid. Also auth-
orized was the non-owned auto-
mobile insurance policy with pre-
mium of $62.40.
As., well as the regular minutes,
those of a special meeting on Ap-
ril 18 were read. At 'that time
council approved an addition to
the Seaforth District High School,
conditiorial to the approval of the
other municipalities concerned.

WMS Meeting
The Woman's Missionary Society
held its monthly meeting Thurs
day evening, May 5 in the Sunday
School room of the church. The
president, Mrs. Watson Webster,
was in charge. Mrs. Gladys Cole-
man led in the worship service.
Mrs. Ralph Stephenson read the
Scripture.
Highlight of the evening was a
sketch depicting the life of a fam-
ily in a refugee camp, The ladies
taking part, and appropriately
dressed. were Mrs.,Anson Cole-
man, Mrs. G. Johson, Mrs G.
Coleman, Mrs, Ralph Stephenson,
Mrs. Gladys Coleman and Mrs. H.
Broeze. Seventeen members an-
swered the roll call, and three
bales were packed for overseas
relief. Mrs. T. J. Pitt closed with
Prayer.
