Urges More Taking Part in Contests
A quiet but pretty wedding was,

The bride was lovely in a short
white ,gown, of silk organza 'a,41(1:

skirt. She wore matching organ- -

Mrs. David Middlton, sister of

,After the ceremony the wedding
Party gathered. at the Hotel

bride donned a mint green and
beige, plaid' suit with beige .cloche
hat and pird corsage.
On their return Mx. and Mrs.
IVIerner will reside in. Arva.

the poster and bird house compe-
titions by additional second and
third prizes of $3 and $2 respec-
tively from the Clinton Society.'
Mr. Lane gratefully acknow-
ledged the grant of $50 from Clin-
ton town council. Albert Liver-
more reported that he had com-
pleted the three flower boxes to
be placed on the curb ,betWeen
the town hall and library park.
A unique "conversation piece"
flower container for -two plants
was on display, thanks to Gordon
Cuningharne, who explained to the
members that it was fashioned of
bamboo, and was' Sent all the way

on Saturday morning, April 30 for
the wedding of Mary Diane
0:Brien and William Charles
Lewis. They exchanged wedding
Vows before Rev. L. El: Reed-
Lewis.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon O'Brien,
Clinton, and the bridegroom is the
son of . the late Mn and Mrs.
Harry Anthony Lewis, formerly of
Halifax, N.S.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride gore' a floor-length
gown of silk organza, with bouf-
fant skirt trimmed with sequins.
A tiara of pearls and sequins' held
her shoulder-length veil; and she
carried a bouquet of Lester Hib-
bort roses.
Miss Marilyn Hoyer, RCAF Sta-
tion Clinton, as maid of honour,
and Miss Jean O'Brien, Clinton,
sister of the bride,, •as bridesmaid,
wore cocktail-length dresses of silk
organza in aqua 'and coral shades,
respectively. They carried arm
bouquets of white ..'ehrysanthe-
mums,
Margaret O'Brien, Clinton, sis-
ter of the bride, as flower-girl,
wore -a yelloW 'nylon frock -and
carried a nosegay of white chry-
santhemums.
Groomsman was Robert Smith,
Halifax, N.S.; and ushers were
Lyle O'Brien, brother of the'
bride, and' James Bumphrey, both
of Clinton.
At a reception at Hotel -Ciinton,
the bride's mother received in an
from San Juan, Puerto Rico by
his son .John.
Highlight of the evening was
the report of the recent 54th an-
nual convention of the Ontario
Horticultural Association held in.
Hamilton on March 10 and 11.
Mrs. Edward Farquhar and Miss
Luella Walkinshaw were the soc-
iety's official representatives.
Their excellent reports were most
informative and very much en-
joyed by those present.
The annual bus trip will prob-
ably be to Sauble Beach, Eugenia
Falls and Owen Sound. Mrs. Al-
bert Livermore won the lucky
prize of gardening gloves donated
by Cruickshanka Toronto. Clare
H. Magee showed a beautiful film
entitled "Spruce Bog." The soc-
iety decided to subscribe to the
Clinton and District film council.

and a corsage of Lester Hibbert
roses. Guests were present from
Toronto, London, Dublin, ; Zurich,
Halifax, and St. Columban.
Fora trip to Montreal, the bride
donned a blue suit, with white ac-
cessories and 'a corsage of_ red
roses. The couple will reside in
Halifax.
Prior to the wedding,' the bride
was the guest of honor at a show-
er given her by her Tuckersmith
Township friends and neighbours,
and at 'a linen shower given her
at her London apartment by a
group of friends from RCAF Sta-
tion Clinton. _

Clinton Citizens Horticultural
Society met Friday evening, April
29, in the agricultural office board
room with the president, Rev. D.
J, Lane, Clinton, urging those
present to secure new members
for the society, since the provinc-
ial grant is based on membership.
Minutes and correspondence were
read by the secretary, Mrs. Stew-
art Middleton', RR 3, Clinton.
Rev. C. S. Inder, Clinton, re-
ceived congratulations On winning
second prize in the provincial
photographic competitions. Mr.
Lane urged members to promote
interest in the poster, essay and
photo contests this year. The
essay contest prize of $10 offered
by the Toronto, Star, will be sup-
plemented by second and third
