sang two fine anthems, In the
evening the Easter cantata "The

Willing Helpers
The Burns Willing Helpers Mis-
sion Band met at the home of Mrs.
J. Babcock with 24 members re-
peating the purpose. President
June Govier led in the Lord's
Prayer and hymn. Doreen. Riley,
secretary, read the minutes. Lin-
da Riley read the treasurer's re-
port, Doreen Riley and Barbara
Shepherd sang a birthday song.
Members joined in a. singsong.
A quartet was sung by Connie
Howatt, Donna, Joyce and Sharon
Riley; a duet was sung by Doreen
and Sharon Riley; a trio by Di-
anne Shepherd, Linda and Doreen
Riley; a reading by Joan Howatt;
riddles by Connie Howatt.
Mrs. G. McGregor told a story,
"Twins make Friends". Following
a question and answer period, a
project on Easter baskets was car-
ried out under the direction of the
leaders.

'Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs, Marvin McDowell
were honoured on the occasion of
their •Golden Wedding, March 31,
when 33 guests sat down to a tur-
key dinner. Ernest Snell congrat-
ulated the couple. Mrs. Lillian
Mackintosh gave •a reading "The
Hanging of the Crane" by Long-
fellow. Miss Judy McDowell (ac-
companied by John McDowell on
the piano) sang a solo. Ronald
Snell played several selections on

barley seem to have wintered well.

the recent warm showers fields
are starting to green up. Farmers
have been applying additional nit-
rogen to these crops in some cas-
es. The ground is still too wet
for spring cultivation.

James David Nivins passed a-
7 ay .on Saturday, April 1,0 in his
71st year, He {Was born in West
Wawanosh, the son of the late Mr.
James Nivins and Margaret Walk-
er and was a farmer all his Iife.
He was a member of the Orange
Lodge 324,. Dungannon.
He is survived by his wife who
was Muriel Smith before her mar-
riage, and two sons, Wes and
Alex; nine daughters, Mrs, William
(Elsie) Hardy, Mrs, Lloyd (Marg-
aret) Brindley, Colborr}e Town-
ship; Miss Mary, at home Mrs.
Clarence (Adeline) Allen, Bennul-
ler; Mrs, David (Betty) Sproul,
West Wawpnosh; Mrs John,
(June) Clark, Saltford; . Mrs.
Frank (Isobel) Doghexty, Port Al-
bert; Mrs, Donald (Grace) Clut-

RR 1, Auburn held a surprise
party in honour of the 35th wed-
ding anniversary (on April 8) of
Mrs. Howatt's parents, Mr, and
Mrs. Clarence Rath of East Wawa -
nosh. ' Euchre winners were: la-
dies, high, Mrs. R. J. Wiggins,
Brantford; lone hands, Mrs. Stan-
ley Black;' low, Mrs. Karl Whit-
field; .gentlemen, high R. J. Wig-

Orval Taylor.
Mrs. Rath is a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs, Thomas Noble
and her husband the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William Rath.
They were married in London in
1925. They have a family of four;
daughters, Mrs. Len (Joyce) Rad-
ford, Londesboro; Mrs. Gordon
(Colleen) Howatt, Auburn; Mrs.
Karl (Sandra) Whitfield and
Yvonne at home. They also have
12 grandchildren.
89 Years
Jacob Stoltz celebrated his 89th
birthday, April 12, at his home
here. He is anxiously awaiting
spring to start his garden. Last
Sunday a birthday dinner was
held with his son Eldon Stoltz,
Mrs. Stoltz and son, Donald,
Guelph and his daughter, Mrs.
Margurite Chopin, Wingham and
his wife Mrs. Stoltz. He is a valu-
ed member of Knox Presbyterian
Church, being a •member of the
session and on the board of man-
agers for many years. In January
he celebrated his 61st wedding an-
niversary:

the tea table and the waitresses
were the girls of the CGIT. Words
of thanks were expressed by

A new dossal, and rel edos table
were dedicated at St. Mark's An-
glican Church on Easter Sunday
morning by the rector, the Rev.
Robert' Meally, .in loving memory
of a farmer faithful member of
this church, the late Mr. Alfred
Nesbit.
The gifts presented by his wife
and family, have added beauty to
the sanctuary.

Easter message from John 20,
verse 8, "The Joys of Easter,"
The Holy City was sung by Mrs,
George Gray and. Frank Nesbit;
accompanied by Mrs. Frank Nes-
bit. The service was well atten-
ded with visitors from Toronto,
Sarnia, St. Catherines and Strat-
ford. Miss Margaret Clark, Strat-
