"Open House" was held at Hen -
salt Library April 9 to mark its
participation in Canadian Library
week. Tea was served and nisi-

quainting themselves with the
many facilities the local library
has to offer.
Mervyn Eyre, RR 2, Kipper, re-
quired several stitches to close a
face cut after his car was in col-
lision April 7 with a car driven
by Frederick Harris, 41, of 91
Jacqueline Street at Hamilton
Road and Adelaide street, Lon-
don. Damage was estimated at
$350.
Harold Peck, Stanley Township,
has tapped 800 maple trees'. There
has been a good run and he is
working night and day making
maple syrup in a bush on the Blue
Water Highway between Bayfield
and Drysdale. Up to date 100
gallons has been made.
In the next bush to Harold's,
Gordon Westlake also .of Stanley
Township has finished tapping be-
tween 17 and 18 hundred trees.
Mr: Westlake has used a plastic
pipe bine which is fastened to the
itrees with the sap running into
tanks, saving a great deal of la-
bor in gathering up the pails.
Legion Auxiliary
Mrs. Mary . McCann, Gorrie,
commander for Zone 01 paid her
official visit to the Hensel" Legion
Ladies Auxiliary April 5, speak-
ing on Legion service work.
$326.30 has been ooilected by
members -for the Red Cross.
Plans were made to send two
teams from this auxiliary to the
alley bowling tournament at

Thirteen members. of the Hen-
sall Kinette Club attended the
London Kinette inter -club rally
Friday, March 8 which kook the
form, of a dinner meeting at .the
Carousel Motel, with Hope. Gar-
ber of CFPL-TV as guest spear
er. The head table was centred
with a birthday Bake and be°
low arrangements of spring flow-
ers, and individual tables were
marked with pennants bearing the
names of the ten centres repre-
sented. 175 guests attended.'.
The club celebrated its 20th
anniversary. Prize winners from
Hensel]. were Mrs. Jack Drysdale
and Mrs. Ross Jinks who won
•fancy hat boxes; Mrs. John Heal
a carton of cigarettes; Mrs, Jam-
es Clark a folding chair.
45th Wedding Day
Mr. and Mrs. Leaton Siemon,
Zurich, entertained at their home
April. 10, at a family dinner. in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. Archie
Noakes, I•iensall, celebrating their
45th wedding anniversary. .A
turkey dinner in buffet style was
served. The table was centred
by a three tier wedding cake flan-
ked with 'mums and tapers.
On behalf of the family Leon-
ard Noakes presented Mrs. Noak-
es with white gold earrings with
blue sapphire inset, and Mr.
Noakes with white gold cuff links
and tie bar with blue sapphire in-
set.
Members of the family attend-
ing the celebration were Mr. and
Mrs. Earl McKellar, Susan and
Michael,- Chatham; Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Noakes and seven child-
ren, Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs.

The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety of the United Church met
April 7 with Miss M. Ellis' group
in charge. Devotional was taken
by Mrs. Cbahes, Mrs. Laird
Mickle, Mrs. Norman. Jones ,and
Mrs. Fred Beer..
The first oha rt r � ..the study
"Africa Awakes '• 'was taken by
Miss Ellis and the second chapt-
er- by Mrs. William Henry, show-
ing that Africa is no longer the
dark continent but the twilight
continent Miss Greta Laramie fav-
oured with a pleasing solo, "In
a Monasetry Garden. An interest-
ing film on Africa "A Copper
Belt" showing the copper mine in
Rhodesia. was shown.
President Mrs. E. Rowe presid-
ed for the business. The report
of the district convention at Sea -
forth was presented by Mrs. Jim
McAllister. Wingham will be host
for 1961. There are 2,195 mem-
bers for South Huron. Hensall
United Church raised $940.09 of
which $300 was raised by the
Evening Auxiliary. Their alloca-
tion for next year is $25,500. This
year they raised $24,680.
A special invitation to•the WMS
was received from the Evening
Auxiliary to be their guests on
April 11. A special collection for
the Victor Home Mission was tak-
en.
Committees were appointed for
the annual birthday party to . be
held in the church, April 29 when

Executive Meeting

The spring executive meeting of
South Huron Women's Institute
was held in the Hensel" town hall.

the district president Mrs. John
McLean presiding. Eight branches
were represented.
Plans were laid for the district
annual at Elimville United Church
May 12 when Mrs. Wales, Komo-
ka will be guest speaker. Nomin
ating committee comprised of
branch presidents brought in the
new slate of officers to be pre-
sented at the district annual.
A motion was passed to exhibit
millinery, lamp shades, and oil
paintings at the district annual.
The Institute scholatrship was dis-
cussed at length. Mrs. J. M.
Sourthcott, Exeter, public relations
officer for- the ,district was ap-
pointed a delegate to the Officers
Conference ,at Guelph May 5 and
6. Mrs. "Harry Strang "acted as
secretary for the meeting.

Treasurer's report revealed that
$138 had been sent to the branch
to date. Meeting concluded by
