Wilt- John Hartley Gives . Best Prepared Speech John Hartley was the winner of the championship contest for best prepared speech delivered last Friday night at the Dale Carnegie Course. The class has one more ses, sion to-morrow night, in Hotel Clinton when they will combine business with, pleasure. Each meniber will bring a guest to din- ner, and the regular session will form the after-dintier speeches, and entertainment of the evening. About 20 class members are grad- uating then. Merry Maids Will Cook Swiss Steak At Next Meeting (By Jean Rogerson) The Clinton Merry Maids met at the home of Mrs. Hartley Managhan, and after repeating the pledge, 13 4-H homemakers answered the roll call. The lead- ers gave a demonstration on the different cuts of meat. ' The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ron MacDonald on April 4. Roll call will be answer- ed by each member reporting on how their family gets its meat supply. Miss Bette Tillman, Clinton, home economist for Huron, will attend this meeting at which a demonstration on ceekhfg Swiss steak will be given. A pet,-hick supper is planned for an early date. Now in Mid.WODA Clinton Will Try To Lure Industry Here Clinton, is. to become a Member of the id-Westorn Ontario. 'Pe- velopment Association once more. Mid-WODA is an association of representatives of municipalities in the counties Of Huron, Perth, Wellington and .Waterloo, for the purpose of prbrnoting the estab- lishments of new industry, and the encouragement of established in- dustry. Clinton's share financially in this arrangement is $170. The provincial-government provides an equal sum, to the amount contri- buted by each of the municipali- ties, to go toward the joint pro- ject. When .Mid-WODA was first begun, all municipalities joining, pledged themselves to a three- year- membership, Clinton backed out after two yea e. Head of the industrial commit- tee in Clinton is councillor L. G. "Skip" Winter, who wase on the industrial committee several years' ago. Other members are Reeve Melvin Crich; Deputy' Reeve Mere gan Agnew. On Monday night, two more members were appoin- ted: J. W. Counter, and Duff Thompson. The vote to join Mid-WODA carried on a 6-2 split of council. When the matter of joining carte up at the first meeting of coun- cil in March, the motion made by Winter, seconded by Crich, had received no support' from the rest of council. 0 35th Wedding Day Celebrated In Toronto With Family Dr. and Mrs. F. G. Thompson, 41 Ontario Street, Clinton, cele- brated their 35th wedding anni- versary on Friday, March 26 at the "Old Mill", Toronto. It was a surprise party put on by the family in honour of their annie versary which was actually on March 6. A special cake featured the af- fair, and corsages and gifts were presented. The, doctor and his wife danced the "Anniversary Waltz." • Birthday Party At County Home For All March "Babies" The Huron County Home Birth- day Party was put on Wednesday, March 16 by -the Seaforth Wom- en's Institute. Those, v(tho cele- brated birthdays in' "March are Miss Rose Rumble, Miss Isabel Sproat, Miss. Laura Weida, Miss Barbara Ann Miller, Mrs. Rut- ledge and Harry Arden. - A program ,consisting of dances and songs was put on by the In- stitute. The birthday cake had' candles, and gifts were distribut- ed. Personals Mr. and Mrs.. Neliviu Crich spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gibbings and family, at Strathroy. Mr., and Um, Stanley Falconer, Bobby, Cathyr and Victor, have re- turned to their home in Green- wood, Nova Scotia, after spend- ing the past five months with Mr. and Mrs.. Mac Falconer, William Street, Mr. and. Mrs. Fred Birlonyre, have moved from Goderich, into 126 Huron Street. Mr. BirkanYre is the proprietor of Wentworth Studio, Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley (Porky) Falconer and three children, Bob- by, Cathy and Victor, have' re- turned to Greenwood, N.S., after having spent the past few mon- ths at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Mat Falconer, William Street. George Grant, Cutter Street, left on Tuesday to take up his duties in Parry Sound as express agent there with 'the CNR. He had been at the local station for several years..
