The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety of Ontario Street United Ch-
urch met in the church parlour
Tuesday afternoon. President,

Radford was at the piano. In the•
absence of the secretary Mrs.
Mills, the secretary's report was
read by Mrs. M, Crich.
Mrs, J. B. Lavis gave the treas-
urer's statement and expense fund
secretary, Mrs. A, J. McMurray
gave her report. 'Roll call was an-
swered by repeating a Proverb.
Mrs. Roy Plumsteel conducted
the worship service, her theme be-
ing, "Too busy for prayer."
Mrs. M. Aiken, Mrs. H. Trewar-
tha, Miss E, Plumsteel, Miss E.
Wiltse, Miss S. Courtice and Mrs,
J. B. Lavis sang that beautiful
hymn, "Sweet Hour of Prayer."
Miss E. Plumsteel contributed a
reading "The little • old country
church." Miss E. Wiltse and Miss
S. Courtice very ably took the
study book, "Northern Rhodesia,"
which proved very interesting.

With Offenders
Big Fines Under LCA
In magistrate's court in Exeter
last week, Robert Carrick, Gode-
rich, was fined $100 and costs and
his licence was suspended for six
months, following conviction of
careless driving in the highway
death of 13-year-old Marie An-
nette Masse, on Highway 21.
Magistrate A. F. Cook levied the
fine.
qHe also imposed $10 and costs
the minimum fines for possession
of alcohol in a place other than
their residence, to ten persons,
under the Liquor Control Act. In-
cluded were Barry Wilson, RR 3,
Clinton; Daniel V. Shanahan, RR
1, Clinton. Minimum fines were
levied in order to give Huron per-
sons an opportunity to realize the
change in law under Which they
now are governed.

Miss Kathleen Rathwell, Kitch-
ener, played traditional wedding
music on the church organ, and ac-
companied Mrs. Ruth Knox, Clists
ton who sang the "Wedding Pray=
er" and during the signing of the
register, "Because".

in the church parlour, the bride's,
mother received in street-length
navy With white accessories and a
corsage. of pink carnations. The
groom's mother assisted in street-

Decorations in the parlour were

For travelling the bride donned
a red dress, a black coat With

sage. Following a wedding trip
to Kentucky, U.S.A., the young
couple are living in Clinton on
Rattenbury Street.
Mr. Turner is employed with
the Robert Bell Industries at Sea-
forth, and his bride is employed
with the Bell Telephone •Company
of Canada, Clinton.
To provide emergency assistance
in a hurry the Canadian Red Cross
warehouses relief supplies in-
France, Switzerland and Turkey.

On March 3 the C.C.4.T.T, of Ont-
ario Street United -Church held
girls service wader the leadership
of Mrs. Carmen McPherson, when
some 15 girls took part in a ser-
vice of worship, specially prepared
for the World Pay, of Prayer.
Then on Sunday afternoon,
March 6; a children's service, for
the World Day of Prayer was held
in the Baptist church, with. Mrs.
M. Lobb presiding and Mrs G.
Grant at the piano. Special music
was given by the junior choir and
a missionary litter was read by
Mrs. Clifford. The children's ser-
vice originated last year, and this
was a first venture for Clinton in
this regard.,

World Day of Prayer, arrange-

icipated in the program and all
others who gave -announcements
of this-event,"
About 45 members of the Men's
Club of Wesley-Willis United Ch-
urch travelled to Goderich on Mon-
day night; March 7 for a two-
hour tour of the Sifto Salt Mine.
After visiting the surface work-
ings, they went •clown 1,$60 feet
(more than one-third of a mile) to
the'leVerat which the salt is min-
ed. Since the mine was only begun
last summer, the work has not
progressed very far in any direc-
tion, although several branches are
being developed. The touring
group saw the miners at work
drilling and blasting with dyna-
mite.
Heavy trucks and'equipment us-
ed at-the mining level, were taken
down in parts, and assembled
there. The chunks of salt were
brought up to the surface and put
through sieves, and crushed, sep-
arating the salt from the rock.
Conveyor belts are used to load
railway cars (60 -tons in 15 min-
utes) and direct :into the holds of
boats. '
Tours of 30 to 40 persons can
be arranged. Each person is is-
sued with cotton coats and brown
helmets to "wear in the mine.

agent here.• With only five days
left tin the deadline of March 16,
the inevitable result Of putting it
off will mean standing in long
lineups in 'the last few days be-
fore.the expiry date.
Today in Clinton, the sale of
permits is down 25 percent from
last year. This time, a year ago,
4,200 drivers' licences and regis-
tration plates were purchased.
Thisn year 'only 3,300 have been
sold.
There will be no extension of
the expiry date beyond March 16.
Lloyd Butler reports that suffic-
ient staff is ` available to handle
the issuing of permits quickly, at
the Departinbrit of Transport ag-
ency at Clinton. The office is
open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m,
Motor vehicle dwners applying
for plates must bring With them,
their liability insurance certifi-
cate; to avoid paying the $5 fee.
They are also reminded, that a
policy for fire, theft and collision
is not liability insurance,

The Canadian delegation includ-

been made of, their 4-H experience,
ability to speak, in public, execu-
tive positions held and participa-
tion in community activities.
Word was received in Gode-
rich from L. Elston Cardiff, MP
for Huron, that the Department of
Public Works was planning expen-
ditures of $133,000 on harbour
improvements during 1960-61.
This includes dredging the inner
harbour, $106,000 and walls and
guard rail, $27,000.. It is intended
to dredge the inner harbour and
that portion of Ship Island which
is not solid rock, to a depth of 23
feet After that is, completed they
plan to make an estimate of the
cost of removing Wild rock above
the grade of 23 feet and considera-
tion will be given to that in the
future.

rails covers the erection of a steel
sheet pile horizontal Wall on the
structures constructed of steel
sheet piling and a steel guard rail
along the top faces of all structur-,
