The newly incorporated ,village
of Zurich was welcomed to Huron
County Council on Tuesday, when
their first representative, Reeve
Lloyd O'Brien, attended his first
session. It was the inaugural
meeting of County Council for
1960.
Other new reeves included Mor-
gan Agnew, deputy reeve of Clin-
ton; Tom Leiper, reeve of Hullett
and Alvin Rau, deputy reeve of
Stanley Township. There are now
33 members of the county council.
There are 35 votes to be cast,
since Goderich's population entit-
les them to four votes. Both the
reeve 'and deputy reeve of the
county town have two votes each,
Harvey McMichael, deputy-
reeve of Howick was appointed to
begin on Tuesday a five-year
term as member of the county
roads committee.
Harvey Coleman, who completed
his tetra on the road committee
last year, was appointed to the
board of criminal audit for 1960.
Members of the striking commit-
tee were Valentine Becker, Hay;
Ralph Jewell, Colborne; Daniel
Betterment., McKillop; W. J. For-
bes, Goderich Township 'and Ar-

Again this year the main slogan

The Clinton committee is made
UP of representatives from the
Kinsmen Club of Clinton, ions
'Club, Clinton Legion Branch, Fish
and Game Club (all sponsors of
minor hockey teams), a town
council representative, Lions Ar-
ena representatives and interest-
ed parents.
At a meeting in Hotel Clinton,
Sunday afternoon last, 25 men
net and made plans for a Clinton
' Minor Hockey Day on Saturday,
Sunday's meeting brought forth
numerous ideas for Clinton's Min-
or Hockey Day on January 30.
Afternoon and Evening
SIX games have been maned,
beginning with two town teams of
Weewces (ages .6 to 8) at one
o'clock. T lr e Kinsmen Squirts
(ages S to 10) play at 1.20. r roan
2 to 3 o'clock, Seaforth and Olin-
ten Peewees will meet; and from
3,30 to 5 the Fish and Game
Bantams will play a, strong visit-
ing team, The Bantams manage-
ment are contacting a Detroit
area team.
In the evening Clinton's win-
ningest hockey team, the Legion
Midgets will play at 7 o'clock.
To complete the hockey day,
the Lions Juveniles (who will be
strengthened for this game) will
play. Opponents for the latter
two teams have not as yet been
picked. -
Numerous Awards
Business' places in Clinton inter-
ested in minor sports are donat-
ing prizes for the various player
awards during the day.
In 'the Weewee and Squirt
games the outstanding player on
each team will receive prizes,
In the Peewee and Bantam
games, three players in each game
receive awards: the outstanding
player .on each team and the out-
standing player of each game.
The Midget and Juvenile games
will be "big league" stuff with a
three-star selection picked for
each game.
Judges for the awards in each
game have been picked; also com-
petent referees are being contact-
ed. Kinsman Bill German has been
appointed referee-in-chief. Donors
of awards are asked to be present
to make the presentation of their
own prizes.
There will be no admission
charge to the arena, but an of-
ficial of the minor hockey week
will be on hand to accept dona-
tions toward the promotion of
minor hockey in Clinton. AU re-
ceipts will be turned over to the
Kinsmen Club of Clinton to fur-
ther promote minor 'hockey. The
Kinsmen boys sponsor and coach
all boys up to 'and including Pee-
wee teams.
An NHL player is being con-
tacted to be present at the games;
also officials of Goderich's Young
Canada Hockey Week and WOAA
officials..
An idea brought up at the meet-
ing was to have a parade through
town• to open the hockey day, pos-
sibly at 12.30 o'clock. AU kids in
parade would be given tickets
which could be cashed in for treats
at the arena booth.
The Kinette Club of Clinton
have volunteered to make sand-
wiches and serve these and choc-
olate milk to all participating
players. There could be up to 175
boys taking part that day.
Carl Cox, owner of the body
and radiator shop across the street
from the Lions Arena has offered
'his shop as a serving place for
the treats.
Another meeting has' been called
for this coming Sunday, January
23 at two o'clock in the Hotel
Clinton dining room.
