A representative of the proper,
'ties departMent of Ontario Hydro
has been in this area attempting
to obtain the signatArea of those
who have not already signed the
eaaement contracta on the Sea-
forth-Clinton 414e,
The present offer is the same as
the one that was refused by some
of the farmers on the line last
spring and was also refused by a
very high, percentage of farmem
on other lines constructed at the
same time.
Duriag the summer Hydro made
an offer to pureheap the strip of
land , but the 'increase in price did
not corieSpond with the increase
of loss to the owner and was also
refused.
-Since this time the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture has,
been trying to meet W n 'with the O-
tario Hydro COralliissiort, but as
the chairman has been out of., the
country the date had to be post-
poned until 2.antiarY 27.
Basically the offer of Hydro is
acceptable: as {pay/tient for a term
of 20 years at which time further
payment WOuld •'be .made for an-
other 20, years. Under these terms
the' payment for crossing, a hurr-
JlenrIalgWaY)
Means an annual rental of $10.00
per year.
When we consider the nuisance
of having to work around these
poles and the restricted use of the
area it would seem that 'the farm-
ers are being quite reasonable in
their requests,
It might seem to many that ex-
propriation of land for Public use
affects very few but With contin-
uing expansion your farm may be
next. Already I have heard rum-
ours of new hydro and telephone
lines to be built shortly, While
the Federation doesn't hope to
make this a profitable deal for
you it does do all in its power to
minimize your losses.
The strong support you have
given in the _past has enabled the
Federation to obtain almost three
times the compensation of a few
years ago and we are hOpefril that
continued support will gain the 20
year lease,
