Mr. A. Walper will entertain his friends at the Prince Albert Hotel. Exeter North on Tuesday evening next, prior to retiring from the ho tel business.- Rev. Mr. Butcher of the Bible Christian Church is ill. The Presbytery of Huron held a regular meeting on Tuesday of last week. It was resolved to separate the congregation at Fordwich from Wroxeter. Mr, Stephen Jory has sold his farm, lot 2, con. 2, Usborne, consist ing of 100 acres, to J. Sample for $6,300. Rowe has been engaged to manage the business and left for Clinton on Wednesday. A large crowd from Exeter went to Crediton. last Thursday evening to take in the fowl supper in connec tion with the re-opening of the new sheds of the 'Methodist church. Mi*. Laurie Watson is able to re sume his duties at Cole’s Drugstore after being laid up for several days. Mr. Thos. Cudmore, of town, met with rather a painful accident when the horse he was driving turn ed sharply and Mr. Cudmore lost his balance and' was thrown out of the rig, sustaining several bruises, frac turing some shaken up. Mr. Thos. has a sugar den wilich weighed seven and a pounds. iMrs. Chas. Lindenfield and ghter Miss Annie, returned to Dash wood, on Saturday after .spending the past two mouths with the form er’s daughter Mrs. Chas. Cann. Messrs. E. W. Horne, E. J. Chris tie and Dr. Kinsman attended the ball at Clinton on Thursday night last. Dr. Rollins, who has been visiting relatives in Detroit and Flint, Mich., returned home on Monday. Mrs. John Westcott and Mrs. C. Cudmore spent a couple of days in Seaforth last week. Miss Mildred Godwin, .contributed several selections at the sacred con cert in Victoria Street Methodist church, Goderich. Mr. Samuel Downie, a former resi dent of Exeter and late of Iowa, has recently moved to Carstairs, Alta., where he is engaged in a land agen cy. Miss Jean Hawkshaw, has return ed home after visiting in London and St. Marys. While Fred Tall, Sr., and his Fred, Jr., accompanied by Wives were returning from Dash wood one night recently, their car skidded and overturned. Mrs. Toll, Sr., was the most seriously hurt, having a broken collar bone also a badly cut hand which required sev enteen stitches. The other occu pants of the car were badly shaken up but escaped with minor ’injuries. R. M. McKay has purchased from W. A. Logan the building on Queen Street now operated as a garage by George Johnston. Mr, Johnston is moving his garage equipment and oil service tanks to the building for merly used as the fire hall. Mrs. (Dr.) Milne, who underwent a very „ critical operation in the hos pital, Toronto, is 'improving very nicely. Mrs. John Mains received word last week of the death of her bro ther, Wm. McCulloch of North Da kota. He formerly lived in E. ,Wa- .wanosh before going west. He is survived by a grown tip family. Mr. and Mrs. R. Sargent and son Dick, who have been visiting Mrs. C. Spafford the latter's mother left on Tuesday for their home in Cuba. Rev. Arthur Shore, of Birr, has accepted charge of the Blyth, Bel grave and Auburn Parish of the An glican church and will commence duties, November the 1st. Miss Dorothy Robinson has cepted a position in Listowel. D. Floody is having some very tensive improvements made to his residence. Lawson: EXETER The Presbytery of Huron Sunday School and Young Peoples’ Rally was held in Carmel Presbyterian church on Wednesday last with large representatives from Exeter, Clinton Goderich and other neighboring places. At the afternoon session a devo tional half hour was led by Rev. Mr. McIlroy, followed by the minutes reports of officers an Sunday school business, quartette, of Carmel very well rendered, composed of the following: Mrs. W. A. McLaren, Miss Janet White, Mrs. A. Dougall, and Mrs. Jas. Patterson. This was fol lowed by a most interesting address by Rev. Dr. A. T. Barr, of Central Presbyterian church, suitable for the occasion. McKinnon in her usual manner, rendered a solo, in order on the program Conference, appointment Nominating Committee, after which singing and prayer, brought the af ternoon session to a, close. The ladies of the church served a sumptuous supper at 6:30 o’clock in the basement. The evening ses sion commenced at 7:30, with a de votional half hour, led1 by Rev. Jas, Foote, Presbytery convener of Ex eter, followed by a report of the nominating committee, election of officers, and the presentation of the President elect’s report of Young Peoples’ Societies. A very pleasing diversion in the program was a. splendidly render'd anthem, entitled, “Soldiers of Christ” by Carmel church choir, under the able leader ship of W. A. McLaren, organist. Dr. A. T. Barr again addressed tlid ev ening session ill his very interesting manner. Following this there was music by Seaforth talent. The meeting closed With - a hymn and prayer. The Perth County Teachers’ In stitute was held in Stratford Nor mal last week. M.r, M, McLeish, of St. Marys, was elected president. Mabel Amelia Bailey, beloved wife of Natlmn Chapman, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 17th in Brussels, aged 43 years. The deceased had been in failing health for some time. She is survived by, her husband and. one daughter, A quiet wedding, was solemnized at the Edmondville Manse when El sie, youngest -daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lowery, became the bride of Mr. Gordon Little, sou of Mr. and Mrs. John Little, of MeKilljp. The ceremony^Wa# performed by Rev. W. D. McDonald. Mrs. Donald McDonald, died at the home of her daughter in Toron to. She had been in failing health since last May and confined to her bed for nearly a month before her death. Mrs. McDonald lived’ in Clin ton for fifty years. She is surviv ed by two sons and two daughters. The death occurred in Clinton on Sunday, October 14tli at the home of her son J. L. Heard, of Jane Ed mundson Eagleson, widow of John Heard-. .She is survived by four sons. The funeral which was large ly attended was conducted by Rev. J. McIlroy, of Hensali, assisted by Rev. H. Pauli. Miss Edythe Kirkby, of Granton, was the hostess of a miscellaneous Shower held in honor of Miss Mabel Rathburn, a bride-elect. Misses M. Gunning and Madeline Westman as bride and groom, presented the gifts to the bride-to-be, to the accompani ment of the wedding march, played by his Miss Kirkby. An elderly and much respected cit izen of Goderich passed away on Oc- tobei' the 16th in the person of Jane Allan, widow of J. Stoddart, Goderich. Mrs. Stoddart was 84th year. The firm employed a number of hands during the summer months, and will be a distinct loss to Mit chell as a number of families are also moving to Hamilton. Rev. H. L. Bennie, pastor of Knox Presbyterian church, Mitchell, has receied a call from the congre gation of Halifax North, of the Pres byterian church in Canada. This is the second call Mr, Bennie received inside of 24 hours. The congrega tion of Hamilton Road Prsbyterian church, London, also extended a call to him. Mr. Bennie has not yet an nounced his decision with regal’d to the invitations. The anniversary services in St. Andrew’s United church, Kippen, were very successful. The anniver sary also commorated the 60th an niversary of the former Methodist church. Rev. Dr. Hazen, of London was the minister ’ for the occasion. The anthems by the choir wer much appreciated.
