There was a been contest for the T. Eaton cup between Norman Walper, of No. 8, Hay and Gertie Huffman of No. 16. Norman Walper succeeded in winning the cup with a total of 87 points while Gertie Hoff- snan took the 2nd prize with 81 points. Edward Gackstetter got the third prize. The council of the Township t of Stephen met at the Town Hall, in Crediton, on Monday, October the 1, 1928, at 1 p.m. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meetings were read and adopted. A certificate was read from Geo. A. McCubbin, Civil Engineer stating that George Eilber had completed the excavation of the Centralia Drain in accordance with his report and specifications. Moved by Mr, Goetz, seconded by Mr, Mawhinney: That the Cantrac­ tor be paid the balance of his con­ tract price $500,00 and the residue if any be rebated to the respective Townships and individuals entitled thereto. Carried. Moved by Mr. Mawhinney, second­ ed by Mr. Goetz: That By-law No. 375 being a By-law to levy and col­ lect the taxes for the year 1928 hav­ ing been read three times be pass­ ed and signed by the Reeve and the Clerk and the Seal of the Corporat­ ion be attached thereto. Carried. Moved by Mr. Dearing, seconded by Mr. Tetreau: That F. Morlock be appointed Collector of Taxes for the year 1928 at a salary of $110.00. Carried. A letter was read from J, M. Don­ ahue, Barrister of London on behalf of John Hogan giving notice that his son, Miclieal Hogan had lost his life on the Town Line between the Townships of Stephen and McGilli­ vray owing bo the negligence of the Municipalities to keep the road in proper repair. Also a letter from Fraser and Moore, Solicitors for Mr. Dennis Doyle giving notice that he had sustained personal injury on the Town- Line between the Town­ ships of Stephen, and McGillivray near Corbett’s Corner and that the accident was caused by the defective state or non-repair of the road. An­ other letter was read, from Winnett, Morehead and Company, Solicitors for Alex G. Ross, of London, giving notice that lhe had suffered consid­ erable loss and damage by reason of the Highway leading south from Exeter in the Township of Stephen being out of repair. As these accidents occurred 'on either Provincial or County Roads or Boundary Lines between Counties these notices were ordered to be filed.
