C. ’Whitlock and Mrs, Horton, of St. Thomas visited with relatives in Usborne last Sun­ day. t Mrs. Joseph Davis and two child­ ren, of Chatham, are visiting the former’s parents Mr. and Wm. Fisher. Mr. T. S. Neale, teller at Bank of Montreal, has returned to his duties after holidaying at his home in Thorold. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McDonald and babe and M'rs. Halliday and babe, of Galt, spent the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Harvey. Mr. J. A. Saunders, of Wood- stock, who has been visiting in town is confined to bed at the home of his sister Mrs.-J., Heywood. Mrs. John Colwill, Mrs. Frank Colwill and daughter Lewis, of Lon­ don, spent a few ' days last week with Mrs. Wm. H. Hooper. Mrs. I. Armstrong and grand­ daughter, Miss Lorraine Armstrong, are visiting the former’s daughter, Mrs. McCreath, of Kincardine. Mrs. Frank Johns and children, of Toronto, are spending a couple of weeks with Mr. .and Mrs. W. Johns. Mr. Johns spent the week-end here. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Suitter and oixuu, daughter, Ruby, motored from To- half mile ronto and were guests with Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Grant over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. ,Roy Alderson, of Thedford and Mr. Albert Alderson, of Arkona spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Collingwood and family. Mr. Alfred Bayley, ‘an Exeter Old Boy, died in London on Monday and was buried on Wednesday. Mr. Bayley was born in Exeter and grew to manhood here. Mr. Bert Snell, of Toledo, Ohio, called, on friends in town on Thurs­ day last. (Mr. -Snell was an em­ ployee in Carling’s store in Exeter fifty years ago. Blanshard township council have struck their rate for 1929 the rate for county purposes is six mills; provincial highway rate one mill; township rate 4.4 mills. Messrs. Srepnen and Willis Powell were down in London Township one day this week calling upon the form­ er’s sister-in-law Mrs. Geo. Powell, who is ill but is improving nicely. Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Vance, for­ merly of Woodham, who have been spending the past year" at Venice, California, have returned and will reside for the Strath roy. Mr. F. E. McPherson, been, visiting in Chicago American cities during month, is spending a short time in Exeter before" leaving to spend the fall in the West.- The new golf course at Grand Bend is proving quite an attraction to not a few of the men and women of Exeter. A number are taking up the game for the first time and are becoming quite enthusiastic. A. and Mrs. Barnard and daughter, formerly of Elimville, spent a few days last week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Medd. Mr. Barnard is supplying for a couple of Sundays on the Fordwich cir­ cuit. Mrs. Boyle, of London, who re­ cently suffered a paralytic stroke, was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Bowden,, of Centralia, on Monday by her son, Mr. F. M. Boyle. Mrs. Boyle was brought up Jin Mr. R. N. Rowe’s new ambulance. Mrs. Sarah Wallace and Mrs. M. Hawks, have returned to their homes in Waitsburg and Prescott, Wash, leaving Sunday after a pleasant vis­ it in town with their sister Mrs. S. Atkinson and other friends and rel­ atives. Mrs. Atkinson and Miss H, Sweet accompanied them as far as London. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Southcott, Mr. Murray Hicks and Miss Eileen Hicks motored to Niagara Falls the latter part of last week. Mr. and Miss Hicks remained in London to spen.fr a few days with Mr. and Mrs. A. Robinson. Mr. Hicks v;Cl also visit in Montreal and Ottawa before re­ turning to his home in Gkotckas in Alberta. Miss Violet Willis who has been visiting in Exeter and other places during the past few weeks, has been joined by her mother Willis and a nephew Master Bobby Willis of Marlette, Mich. We are glad Mo state that although much advanced in years, Mrs. Willis is hail and hearty and is still able to take a motor trip to the old home town. Mr. and Mrs. D. Rowcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Graham and'little son, Jack, returned home last week from a delightful motor trip in M’us- koka where they visited a number of picturesque places and summer re­ sorts. They were surprised to find the shores of many lakes swarming with summer visitors, but when they saw the wonderful beauty of the place, with its crystal lakes set in forest and woodland, with back- gounds of rocky highlands with an entire absence of mosquitoes and flies, they no longer wondered but wished that they too had the privi­ lege of enjoying a month’s vacation in this enchanted spot. The. sum­ mer resorts were like good-sized villages, filled with Americans and Cahadian tourists. The Elgin House and lodges in connection with it, capable of accommodating over 400 guests were filled to overflowing principally Americans, in coming home they came by Wasaga Beach on the Blue Water Highway and found It a very interesting stretch fourteen miles long and almost as hard and level as a floor, Bight or ten automobiles can run abreast .on It in perfect safety.
