Councillor Lee, of Goderich, was taken suddenly ill recently and re- noved to Alexandra Hospital/where m operation was performed. It will be some weeks before he will be able to be out again. Frederick Gordon Harris, of St. Marys, has been appointed to the position of customs excise clerk at Stratford to fill the vacancy left by the promotion of.A. J. Jeffrey some time ago. Mr. Harris is a native of St. Marys and a returned soldier. “My bill for that call was 60 cents”,.said Mrs. King, “and Mrs. Jones paid 75 cents!” 0 The explanation is that Mrs. King had said to the oper ator “I will speak to any one there”. That made it a Station-to- Station call. Station-to-Station calls are quicker and about 20 per cent cheaper than person- to-person messages. More over, low evening rates (after 8.30 p.m.) and still. lower night rates (after midnight) apply on station- to-station calls. As~a result of a fall which he sus tained recently when he received a broken hip and serious internal in juries, William John Paisley, died at liis home in Clinton in his eighty eighth year Mr. Paisley has been failing in health of late years and was pruning a tree in his garden, when he fell. For many years he was a successful building contractor. Besides hs widow he is survived by five daughters and three sons. REPORT OF S. S. WHEREAS the Board of Education has made an application'to the Coun cil of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter for the issue of $20,000 debentures namely or the purchase of a site and the erection thereon of a School house for High School purposes. AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Exe ter after receiving the said applica tion considered and requested that the same be submitted to a vote of the electors of the Municipality of th,e names provide^ by The Revised Statutes of Ontario, 1927 for a By law for contracting a debt. AND WHEREAS it js necessary submit the said By-law to a vote the electors of the Municipality the manner provided by the Revised Statutes of Ontario 1927 in the case of a Money By-law. AND WHEREAS it is intended, in case the majority of the votes cast are in favor of the said By-law, the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter shall in the man ner provided by The Revised Statutes of Ontario 1927 pass a By-law to raise the sum of $20,000 for the purpose aforesaid, by the issue of debentures of the said to be payable within years from the date of bentures, with interest of four and three-quarters per cent, per annum, that is to say the prin cipal and interest shall be combined and be made payable in as nearly as possible equal annual instalments during the period for which the de bentures are to run. And whereas the amount of the whole rateable property of the said Village of Exeter according to the last Revised Assessment Roll, being the Roll for the year 1927 is the sum.of $832,357.00 and whereas the amount of the debenture debt of the Corporation including all purposes is the sum of $58,312.94 and no part of the principal or interest is in arrears. And whereas it will be necessary to raise annually the sum of $1383.- 90 during the period of twenty-five years to pay the yearly sums of prin cipal and interest as th£y become due. , Therefore the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter enacts as follows:— 1. That for the purpose aforesaid there shall be borrowed on the cre dit of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter the sum of $20,000 and debentures shall be issued therefore in sums of not less thdn $100.00 each, bearing interest at the rate of four and three quarters per centum per annum and having coupons at tached thereto for the payment of the .interest. 2.
