The Orangemen are making great
preparations for celebrating the
“Glorious 12tli” her on Thursday. A
large number of Lodges have pro-
msed to attend and a tremendous
crowd is expected. There will be a
baseball match between Staffa and
Hensail n the morning at ten o’clock
at half past one the Orange parade
will start from the Park Grounds,
and after their march will return to
the park, where addresses will be
given by a number of well known
speakers. There will be dancing in
the hall all afternoon and evening.
Meals will be served at the United
church, the hotel and other places.
DEATH OF MRS. 1
JAMES SUTHERLAND
There died in Hensall' on Sunday
one of our oldest residents, in the
person of Mrs. Jas. Sutherland,' in
her 93nd year. Mrs. Sutherland's
maiden name was Harriett N. Dent,
and was a daughter of the late.Col.
John Dent, and was born in Embro,
Ontario. She spent her early life
at Embro and attended college at
Coburg, after her marriage to the
late Jas. Sutherland, they lived at
Embro, Forest and Hensail where
they have resided since. She was
a consistant member of the Presby
terian church till Union, when the
family has been connected with the
United Church. 'She leaves to mourn
her loss one son, George J. Suther
land, Postmaster of Hensall, and
one daughter Miss Hattie, at home,
and-two sisters Mrs. A. H. Carroll
and Mrs. C. Scott, of Woodstock,
and -one-brother M. M| Dent, of Sud
bury. The funeral which was pri
vate, took place from’her late resi
dence on King Street on Tuesday af
ternoon to the Hensall Union Ceme
tery, and was conducted by her pas
tor Rev. Arthur Sinclair. The pall
bearers being, Wni. McKay, Chas>
McDonell, Jas. A. Bell, Geo. C.
Petty, Geo. Case and John Craig.
Amongst those who attended the
funeral from a distance were: Mr.

The Strawberry Festival last Fri
day evening on the lawn of tile
Evangelical church was a most de
cided success. From 5:30 to 9:00
o’clock there was a constant serv
ing. Several times there was almost
a shortage in some part of the pro
visions but it was quickly supplied
by the energetic committee of the
Ladies’ Aid. Much praise is due to
the combined enthusiasm, work,
management and good will that ex
isted among the workers. The pro
gram that followed Was interesting
and profitable: opening pipe organ
selection by Mrs. Harry Hess; Male
quartette (Morlock, Weurth, Fahner
and Morlock); reading,.Miss Lavina
Smith, violin solo, Mr. Otto Krust;
vocal solo, Mr. Clayton Sims; read-

Dear Teacher—Another school
term is ended and you are about to
leave us. Before we say good-bye*
we as pupils wish to tell you how
very much we regret your depar
ture and ask you to accept this
small gift, as an expression of our
appreciation of youi* kindness, and
the fair and impartial way in which
you have always dealt with us.
We know that our progress has
always been your chief aim and as
time goes by, we hope that when
you think of the pupils of S. S.

Casino the coming week,

held and all fiddlers are welcome to
compete for the Silver Trophies. The
success of last year’s contest prompt
ed the management to put this con
test on earlier in the season as a se
cond may be given in August. There
will be two classes, one for those
under 55 years of age, and another
for those over 55, with a prize for
the oldest and youngest fiddler.
Cups will also be given for step
dancing and mouth-organ playing.
Some rounds of square dancing will
also be on the program. One fine
time is promised on Monday, July
16 th.
Anything the management of the
Casino has evei1 done in the way of
premier attractions has not caused
as much excitement and furore as
the engagement of Emerson Gill and
his famous Radio Orchestra. Gill
is known to 'the majority of people
in this district, although they have
never seen him. Through the Chan
nels of radio, he has been bringing
sunshine to the people of Western
Ontario. There is only going to be
one chance to see this Prince of en
tertainers with his Orchestra* and
that is Tuesday, July 17th. The
prices are so reasonable1 that every
dancer and music lover Will be
there.. it is a program you will
never forget and one that comes only
once in a life-time.
