The Church Army Crusaders have been in town during the past week, consisting of 10 men and 6 women, and gave very nteresting services in the Anglican church. The graves of the depart­ ed Odd Fellows and Rebecca’s were first decorated after which a short service was 'held. Address were made by the Rev. Mr. Sinclair, Rev. Mr. Mclllroy, and Mr. Wm. Doig. While in Goderich the Reeve interviewed the Good Road Commission, as to them taking over the road east of Hensall, or to give a grant to aid in building up the road so that it will be in as good shape as it was when the Co. took hold of it three or four years ago. As there will be a big traffic on this road during the next few years in gravel drawing alone, the commission promised the reeve thdy would come down and look the road over and it is very possible that it will be again added to the good road system. f CONSERVATIVES TO MEET The annual meeting of the South Huron Conservatives, will be held in Hensall, this Friday afternoon, June 29th. A splendid list of speakers have been secured, includ­ ing Mrs. Howard Fallis, of Peter­ borough, Hon. Dr. Monteith, Prov. Treasurer; George Spotton, M.P-, of N. Huron; Mr. A. A, Ingram, of the Western ntario Conservative Assoc­ iation and others. The secretary of the Association, Mr. Robert Higgins, is making every effort to make this a successful meeting. Ladies are especially invited and every Conservative in the riding who can ossibly attend should be there. Mr. Thomas Cann, of London, visited a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Roy McDonald- Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Harris and daughter Bernice, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cann, of Thames Road over Sunday. Owing to the warm showers we have had lately all farm crhps are in splendid condition. Miss Violet Gill, nurse-in-training at the Ontario Hospital,, London, is spending her holidays here. The Annual School Picnic of School Section No. 7, Hibbert and No. 10, Tuckersmith ’ will be held Friday • afternoon, June 29th at S. S. No. 7, Hibbert. There will be a soft ball game between girls of each section; also1 sports of all kinds. Ev­ erybody come and enjoy a good time with the scholars of each section. During the months of August the chopping mill ate only on Tuesdays, and Saturdays. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Boyes took in the C. N. R. Excursion to Niagara' Falls last Saturday and report a pleasant time. Mr. and Mrs. H. Powe have retur­ ned home after a few days visit near Toronto. Mrs, John Essery spent a few days in London the forepart of last week Mrs. Fred Fairhall arrived here recently, and after visiting for a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fairhall, returned to Montreal accompanied by Mr. F. Fairhall’s parents. Mr, John Wilson held a very suc­ cessful sale on Saturday last, hav­ ing disposed af his household goods and property. The real estatee was purchased by Mr. R. Davey. We are always glad to see Mr. Frank Taylor, the genial auctioneer in action. The annual Mitchell picnic was held at Springbank on Saturday last when a large number were present and report a splendid tome. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davey ret­ urned home on Friday last from Connecticut and several other points east. They both look and feel fine and report many interesting sights. Dr. and Mrs. Heighway visited at the home of Mr. John Essery on Snday last. Miss Mary O’Brien has returned hojpe from Stratford where she has "been* attending - school-.' Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Neil, of De­ troit, are visiting for a few days with the former’s parents Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Neil- Messrs. Wilbert and Brothers of the village were called to Toronto on Monday on important business. Mr. W. T. Colwill is in Toronto this week on business. Mr. Czar Wilson has completed his ditching contract with Messrs. Geo.' and And. Hicks and has mov­ ed with the machine to the farm of .Mr. William Coates on the second concession of Usborne. We are sorry to note that Mrs. J, Kent and Mrs., J. Boyes are on the sick list- We hope for a speedy recovery. Mr. Richard Parker had the mis­ fortune to run into a horse with his car on the Lake road. Both car and horse were badly damaged the horse having to be shot. Dominion Day, July 2 looms as one of th^ largest days in the history of the Bend. Numerous attractions have been planned, and the Ladies Softball Game for the silver cup, and the horse-shoe pitch­ ing contest, (open) will be some ot the headliners. Perhaps the Casino and .its music is the greatest amuse­ ment and attraction, and a great many inquiries have been made as to the music for the season. DEATH OF MISS JEAN KERR The death occurred at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Wm. McDonald, of Kippen on Monday last of Miss L Kerr, in her 83rd year. The service was withdrawn last Sunday on account of measles, Sunday next being July lBt the young men’s Bible class known as the “Star” class will have charge of the opening exercises in Zion Evan­ gelical S. She will fill the the position as,? camp nurse. Mr. Henry Sparling and Mr. Nor­ man Sriberger, of Walkerton, visit­ ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith on Sunday. The Evangelical Orchestra and assistants furnished the program at the Greenway Strawberry Festival last Wednesday evening and desire to thank the people and past-or of that congregation for their friendly reception and refreshments at the close. On Tuesday last the “Stars” class of the Evangelical church Sunday School went on a motor trip. The party consisted of two carloads of gay young men and the route taken was from Grand Bend by way of the Blue Water Highway through Bay- field Goderich to Kincardine and re­ turning by way of Walkerton, Tees- water, Wingham, Blyth, Hensall and Exeter. The party remained in Kincardine for dinner where a game of softball was played. Studebakers versus Pontiacs. The Studebakers- won out, the score being 12 to 8. Another ’ tournament was staged in Wingham, and a stop was also made in Blyth where one of the number wished to call on a friend. The party then returned home and every one reported a good time. The play entitled “Valley Farm’r put on by members of the E.L.C.E. of the Evangelical church last Fri­ day evening w.as a real success in- more ways than one. The following were members who took part, Er­ ma Fahner, Clara Morlock, Clara Gaiser, Alma Smith, Vera Mawhin- ney and Melita Wein; F. W. Mor­ lock, Erwin Finkbeiner Lloyd Haistr Lawrence Wein, Clinton Morlock, and Alvin Finkbeiner. Much com­ ment was heard about the partici­ pants having done exceeding well. The play itself was well chosen* containing no vulgar phrases and yet interesting, serious and at times- very humorous, ending in a most satisfying manner that made one feel like wanting to hear it over again. We dare not forget the two ladies who were the directors of the entire practice period and bore a great share of the responsibility for its success. The two ladies were, Miss Lavina Smith and Miss Clara Oes- tricker, much praise is due them. In spite of the fact that a postponement of the play was rumored about, there was a splendid crowd. Music between acts was furiShed by Miss Addileen Gaiser, Bernice Eilber, R. Faist and Kenneth Sippfell. The proceeds will be used for missions and kingdom work In general. Several invitations were inform­ ally extended to the Evangelical G.E. to put on the play “Valley Fafm” in other localities for the benefit of organization.
