The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motion of 'Petty and Sangster. The court foi’ t'lfe revision of the assessment roll Will be held on Monday evening, .AJay 28tli, at 8 p.m. A number of accounts were presented and were ordered paid. Councillor Petty then bi’duglit up the matter of a grant to he Orangemen for their celebration on July 12th. It was decided to give th.eTOrangemen $50. By-Law No. 6 wp&^then given its first, second-and third readings appointing George Hudson as a special officer to en force the Liquor Control Act in the village. The council are determined, to have this act enforced and- by /having their own special officer all fines will remain in the village in stead of being taken out. The mat- ter of the Black Creek Drain assess ment was discussed and an appeal will be made against the assessment The clerk was instructed to write to ! the Ontario Forestry Branch about getting some young trees for our park. The matter of the oiling of the streets was taken up. Some of the council are not in favor of oiling •the streets 'this year but using the money, (about $500) the cost last year, and adding another $500 to -it and spending the $1,000 in gravel which would put the roads in town in good shape. The street committee . was instructed to secure a grader and get 'the streets in good shape ' as csoon as possible and to fill any holos up with gravel. The clerk was ■ instructed to write to the County ; engineer about having a car of oil 1 put off at Hensall so we could take out,, what we need as there will no ; daub.t' be some oil used. The reeve brought up the matter of better street lighting and said that a row of lights could be run up the north ; side of King St. and that 100 candle ; power lights could be used on both j sides and distribute the light better tha.n having the 200 c. p. lights on one side only and the cost would be the same without any extra cost to the ^ratepayers. As the Hydro’ .QqiUOjission has plenty of funds on . hand the reeve suggested that the : lights on the south side of King st. 1 be lowered a foot or eighteen inches and on the north side suitable poles and brackets and clear glass globes be secured which would give our street a splendid appearance. The reeve said that he would take the matter up with the Hydro Commis sion this week and as there will be : a meeting in town on Friday on the ( Black. Creek Drain matter and at ; which the council will- be present, ; this matter will again be discussed. ; The meeting then adjourned. *■ Seeds f 'Seeds! |f ................................
