Bullantyne, Reeve; Skinner, Pew, Berry and Williams, Councillors. The minutes of the meeting of July 2 were read and approved on motion of Skinner-Dew. Correspondence — Cheque from Treas. ot Biddulph re 1926 boundary gravel received amounting to $506-- 15. Warburton & Co., circular re scrapers; noted. Circular from Minister of Agriculture re Weed Control. The clerk was instructed to answer same on motion of Berry- Williams. Otis Sawyer appeared before the council requesting action on the re pair of that imi-tion of the Summer ville Drain on the Usborn-Fnllarton boundary. Reeve Ballantyne was to confei’ with Fullarton reeve on. the matter1 forthwith. Berry-Dew: That the following rates be struck’ for Municipal pur poses for 1927, viz: General county rate 4.1 mills on the §, highway rate 2.0 mills on the $; township rate 3.5 mills op the $ general school rate 2.4 mills on the $, and that the amounts necessary for each school section in the township be levied by special rate entered on the Collect or’s roll and collected with the other rates and that a by-law be drafted confirming same. THAMES ROAD The August meeting of the W.M.S. of Thames Road United church met at the home of Mrs. Arthur Gaydiner with a large attendance. An invita tion to the ladies of the W.M-S. of i Roy’s church was accepted and their society was well represented, and furnished an excellent program. Our president, Mrs. Robt. Kydd, pre sided and after the opening hymn the scripture reading was read by Mrs. Ernest Dow and Bert. Gardin er sang a song of welcome. Miss Jean Colquhoun gave an instrument al and a duet- was sung by Mrs. .Stanley Hocking and Miss Marjorie Graham. After a reading given by Mrs. Edward Hocking and a solo-by Miss Sadie Henry, Mrs. James Gard iner gave us a short address and the girls from Roy’s church put on the pageant entitled "Miss Canada Comes of Age” at the close of which all joined in singing “Oh! Canada” and the meeting was closed with prayer. During the luncheon the ladies were seated according to the month of their birthday so that it was a real meeting to become ac quainted- Through an error the July meeting, was not reported but was held at the home of Mrs. Percy Passmore with- a1 good attendance. Mrs. Chas. Allison read the topic bn Africa and Mrs. Wiseman -gave a reading. Mrs. Archie Morgan sang a pleasing solo and Carrie Anderson favored us with an instrumental- After the business was settled the meeting was brought to a close by the singing of a hymn and sentence prayer by several members, after which a dainty lunch was served by the hostess and committee in charge. STEPHEN COUNCIL . The council of the" Township of Stephen convened in the' Town Hall, Crediton, on Monday, the 1st of August, 1927, at 1 p.m.. All mem bers were present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. Mawhinney-Goetz: That Eli Law- son be appointed weed inspector for the Township of Stephen for the year 1927 and that he be paid at the rate of $4 per day and he to furnish his own transportation and .pay his own expenses. Brenner. i POLICE TRUSTEES UNSEATED M-At the last session of the Ontario Legislature tlie village of Bayfield was reduced to a police village and an election was held in June to elect Trustees. The result was a tie be tween Messrs Merner and Pollock, while John R, McLeod and Murdock Ross had a niajoriay over all. A number of irregularities were alleg ed by Win. Stan- . upset the election through the Court at Toronto, The trustees ppcided to resign rather than fight tn& matter out, go there will be another election, MRS PETER DALEY SEAFORTH—-The funeral of Mrs. Peter Daley, dne of Seaforth’s oldest and most highly esteemed residents who died at the family jhome follow ing a heart attack suffered the pre vious evening took place Thursday afternoon to the Maitlandbank Cem etery. Mrs. Daley, who was a daugh ter of the late Emmanuel Finch, was was born in Kent County, England, and came to Canada with her parents and resided with them in Clinton until hei' marriage on January 1st, 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Daley settled in Seaforth. Four years ago they celebrated their golden wedding. Besides her husband she is survived by a ^family of two sons and, four daughters; Mrs. Samuel Cudmore, of Usborne; Mrs^ John Thornton, Pen ticon, B.C.; Mrs. Murdock Nicholson Penticon, B.C<; 'and ‘ fars.
