John Patrick, with pray- er in a brief ceremony. WA Annual The Woman's Association of St. Andrew's United Church, met at the parsonage on Thursday afternoon, December 3, with an, attendance of 23. Mrs. Lindsay Smith was in the 'chair and opened the meeting 'with the WA motto in unison, and the singing of the hymn "Si- lent Night", with Mrs. Robert Scotohmer at the organ, Mrs Charles Bell's secretarial report was approved, and Miss J. Stirling's financial statement ad- opted. The president gave a reading entitled "Proportion of Christ- mas." The talent money for De- cember was presented. The meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs, Lindsay Smith. She also extended a vote of thanks to Mrs Patrick for her home, and the ladies of the lunch committee for the delicious re- freshments. Knox WMS The annual meeting of the Wo- men's Missionary Society o f Knox Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. J. J. Richardson on Wednesday of last week. The president, Mrs William R. Talbot conducted the opening ex- ercises and the Christmas pro- gram. Mrs. A. A. Armstrong read the Scripture. Reports were presented by Mrs. Russel Heard, secretary, and Mrs. Bruce Menerey, treasurer, showed a very successful year with the allocation over subscrib- ed. The officers were returned by acclamation for 1960, with Mrs. J. J. Richardson as Glad Tidings secretary. The program for the coming year was discussed. Trousseau Tea Entertaining at a delightful trousseau tea for her daughter on Saturday evening, Mrs. Robert Blair wore a brown frock. She was assisted in receiving over 90 guests, by the bride-elect, Miss Helen Blair, in beige. The tea table was done in lace. centered with pink carnations and white 'mums, pink tapers in sil- ver holders and silver tea services graced • the table. Holly leaves and berries, here and about the ,room added a Christmas touch. Mrs J. E. Howard poured from 7-9 o'clock. Mrs. A. M. Bassett from 8,30-11, and Mrs. James A. 'Cameron from 9-11 p.m. Serving were Mrs. James Hut- chings and Mrs. George Heard. And Mrs, Charles Bell, Mrs. Wil- liam R. Orr and Mrs. Lloyd Scotchmer also assisted. Miss Ethel Blair and Mrs. John Lindsay showed' the trousseau while Miss Brenda Blair and Miss Judy Holward had charge of the gifts in the living room. John, Arthur read from Rorn.ans 12, Al- lan Craig and John Arthur receiv- ed the offering and the mite boxes and all sang the dedicatory pray- er, The member's purpose was re- peated in unison. After describing December wea- ther, singing habits, and etiquette in Angola today, the story a Kasitu was told. Mrs. Arthur Grange led in the question and discussion period, and the meeting was closed with prayer by Miss M, R. Jackson. Young People The Young People's Society of Knox Presbyterian Church met in the Sabbath school room of the church with a good attendance. The president, Edgar Leatherland was in charge. Marie. Leather- land led in prayer. Minutes were read by the secretary, Helen Youngblut. Roll call was answer- ed by quoting a verse with "Lord" in it. The treasurer Gordon Daer gave the financial statement and the offering was received by Kathleen Andrews. Scripture lesson from Luke 12, was read by Marilyn Daer, and Rev. D. J. Lane conducted a Bible quiz. A Christmas party was planned for December 15, with Kathleen Andrews and Mary Kirkconnell in charge of the games and Helen Youngblut, Marilyn Daer and Ed- gar Leatherland on the lunch committee. Twins 87 Years Old Twin sisters who have never missed celebrating their birthdays together were united again in London to observe their 87th birthday. Mrs. George Sturdy (Edith), Clinton, and Mrs. James Raithby (Helen), • now at the Eg- erton Nursing Home, London, were joined at a turkey dinner by a life-long friend and brother- in-law of Mrs. Raithby's, George Raithby, Auburn, who is 88. The twins were born in 1872, in one of the first brick houses• in Hullett Township, south of Aub- urn on the Base Line and were two of a family of 13 children of pioneer parents; Mr. and Mrs. William Ball. They attended SS 9, Hullett, and during the day re- called many childhood memories with Mr. Raithby. Both married farmers and lived in this district all their lives un- til recent years when Mr. Sturdy and Mr. Raithby passed away and they left to make their home with their sons. Mrs. Sturdy resides with her son, Harry, at Clinton and Mrs. Raithby is in London. Mrs. Sturdy has two grandchildren. Mrs. Raithby has five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and her sons Glen and Lloyd both re- siding at London. Their families also joined in the celebration. CGIT Vespers Knox Presbyterian Church was the scene of the CGIT Christmas Vesper service on Sunday after- noon. The programs were dist- ributed by Mary Sanderson. The girls formed part of the choir which led in the service of song with Mrs. Duncan MacKay presid- ing at the organ (substituting for her daughter, Barbara who was ill). Barbara Sanderson president of the CGIT, was in charge. Christmas Scripture lessons were read by Rose Marie Haggitt, Carole Brown, Margaret Haines, and Judith Arthur. A duet, "Sil- ent Night, Holy Night" was sung by Helen and Betty Youngblut. Mrs, Wes 13radnock introduced the subject of the service "Make Christmas Live Today," which was ably told •by Edgar Leather- land, president of the YPS. The candle-lighting service was held with Sennett Dobie lighting the gold candle, Linda Andrews, the frankincense candle and Mar- ilyn Daer, the myrrh candle. The offering was received by Marg- aret Sanderson a n d Marjorie Youngblut and dedicated by Bar- bara. Rev. D, J. Lane spoke a few words an the work of the CGIT work and was in charge of the white gift service, Gifts were pre- sented by members of the Ida White COC, under the direction of Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson and Mrs, Donald Haines, These gifts have beep sent to the Hamilton Sanitorium to make Christmas for some of the sick children in that hospital. Knox WMS The Women's Missionary Society of Knox United Church was held in the Sunday School room of the church. Mrs.•Oliver Anderson pre- sided- and Mrs. William J. Craig was at the piano. The minutes were read by Mrs. John Durnin. Roll call was answered with a verse with the word "Peace," Mrs. Harold Webster gave the treasur- er's report. Mrs. William T. Robison took the chair for the program. Mrs. William S. Craig led in the singing of Christmas carols with Miss Margaret A. Jackson as pianist. The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Bert Craig, followed by medi- tation by Mrs. William Dodds. Miss Margaret R. Jackson gave the Christmas message. A solo was sung by Mrs. Gordon McClin- chey. The offering was received by Mrs. Bert Craig and Mrs. Wil- liam Dodds. Officers for 1960, accepted as presented by Mrs'. John Durnin, are: Honorary president, Mrs. R.
