Hamilton, spent a weekend rec-
ently with Mr. and Mrs, J. M.

family who have been occupy-
ing M, Greer's home on the Blue
Water Highway, Stanley Town-
ship, moved recently to Mrs. 3, R.
Cameron's cottage on Main St-

Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner left on
Monday to spend the American
Thanksgiving with her sister, Mrs.
Wesley Morse, River Forest, III.
She will •also visit her other sis-
ter, Mrs. J. Wescott, Evanston,
Ill,
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hovey were
in Mitchell on Sunday and also
visited Mrs. Hovey's mother, Mrs.
Bert Ruston, a patient in Strat-
ford General Hospital who is im-
proving in health following a crit-
ical illness.
Mrs. Henry Miller, Mount
Clemens, Mich., and Miss Lola
Elliott accompanied by her friend,
Mrs. Tony Chapman, Detroit, re-
turned to their respective homes
on Monday after having spent the
weekend with their brother W.
Leslie Elliott.
Mrs. Betty Lou McLeod and
Lea Anne visited her brother
Clarence Larson and family, Mrs.
R. 3. Larson was with her sister,
Mrs. L. B. Smith, London, on Sat-
urday and Sunday. Mrs. William
E. Parker who accompanied them
to the city returned home Satur-
day evening,
Reg. Francis, Spencer Ervine
and William Mellwain arrived
home on Saturday after having
been. with a hunting party in the
Parry Sound district near Britt.
Reg, Francis had the misfortune
to shoot a cowl moose thinking
it a deer. He reported it immedi-
ately to the game warden, as
moose are out of season there.

wedding of Peter Vanloo, Clinton,

Miss Shirley Brandon, B.A., Es-
sex and Mr. and Mrs. W, Fiat-
blado, Oakville, were with their
father, H. N. Brandon for the
weekend.
Mrs. E. W. Oddleifson, London,
who recently, underwent surgery
to her knee in Victoria Hospital,
is recuperating at her home in
the village.
Guardsman Robert Orr left on
Tuesday to rejoin his regiment
at Camp Petawawa, after a fur-
lough spent with 'his parents, Mr.
and Mrs, William R. Orr,
Percy Renner, with his wife and
David, and Wilmer Harrison re-
turned on November 14 from
Sault Ste Marie. The men each
brought home venison.
Mr. and Mrs, Stephen Sehutte
and baby (who spent some days
with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Path
after their cottage was closed)
left on Saturday for Toronto.
Miss Charlene Scotchmer has
returned to Teachers' College,
Stratford, after having been home
while doing practice teaching at
RCAF Station Clinton.
John Scotchmer Sr. had the
misfortune to fall on the slippery
street in Goderich one day last
week sustaining three fractured
ribs,

SS 4 Club Has
Regular Meeting

The SS 4 Goderich Township
Community CM) met hist Wed-
nesday at the home of Mrs, Fred
Lobb. Tile meeting was in charge
of the preSident, Mrs. J. Merrill,
Roll call Was: 25 cents a mem-
ber to be given to the Children's
Aid Society of the county, A do-
nation is also being given for the
Christmas TB Seals fund,
A letter of thanka from Mrs.
Fred Siornan, Capreol, Ont„ was
read, thanking the club for the
boxes of quilts and clothing re-
ceived.
A quilt was quilted and lunch
was served by Mrs. Mervyn Lobb
and Mrs, Carman Tebbutt assist-
ing the hostess, The December
meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs. James Lobb on ThunsdaY,
Dec. $ (note change of date).

Service Dec. 13
Turner's United Church Wo-
man's Association met in the
basement of the church on Wed-
nesday, November 18 at 2.30 p.m.
with 11 members and,two visitors
present. Roll call was answered
with "Steps Towards Peace."
Scripture was read by Mrs. E.
Townsend, the prayer by Mrs. E.
Whitmore, and devotions by Mrs.
William Rogerson.
The topic "Blessed Are The
Peacemakers" was by Mrs. H.
Johns. A White gift and candle-
light service is planned for Sun-
day, December 13 at 8.30 p.m.
Hostesses were Mrs. G. McGregor
and Mrs. M. Falconer.

The ceremony was performed
by the Rev. Dr. Ottis Fuller in
Wealthy Street Baptist Church,
Grand Rapids, at eight o'clock in
the evening and the reception was
in the church parlour.
The guests from this vicinity
were entertained over night by
the bride's parents and members
of her family.
Shower Held
Miss Shirley Brandon enter-
tained at a personal and linen
shower in the Orange hall on-
Saturday evening for Miss Helen
Blair a bride-elect of next month,
The hall was decorated in. pink
and white with a brides chair
under an arch from which hung
pink umbrellas, bells and stream-
ers. About 45 women and girls
attended.
After playing games, Ellen
Lindsay and Janis Galbraith
brought in. the gifts in a child's
riding automobile with trailer at-
tached and Miss Brandon asked
the bride-to be to accept the gifts.
Miss Blair acknowledged the
many beautiful gifts quite charm-
ingly. The younger girls made
a bride's hat for her out of the
ribbons.
Assisting the hostess in serving
refreshments were Mrs. John
Lindsay, Miss Ethel Blair, Mrs.
Kenneth Brandon, Mrs. 3. Fras-
er, Mrs. William Parker, Miss
Alice Dunn and Mrs. W. Pitblado,

Trinity Church Branch Wo-
men's Auxiliary met at "The Hut"
oil Thursday afternoon. Opening
with the hymn, "Jesus Calls us
O'er the Tumult" with Mrs. E. A.
Featherston at the piano, Miss
Lucy R. Woods presided and con-
ducted the Litany. Scripture was
read by Mrs. E, A. Featherston.
Mrs. T. Castile gave the secre-
tary's rpeort, and Mrs. R. 3. Lar-
son's statement showed suffic-
ient funds on hand to meet obli-
gations.
Mrs. C. Knuekey, prayer part-
ner secretary, read correspon-
dence and led in the prayer en-
the partner.
Mrs. E, A. Featherston, Living
Message secretary, received sub-
seriptions for next year.
It was decided to hold the elec-
tion of officers at the December
meeting and the corporate cote-

returned from London hospital
where she underwent surgery.

Miss Sadie Carter visited in the
village on Sunday afternoon. Miss
Carter is assisting Mrs. Hill who
has a fractured leg,

Mrs, Keith Meehan received a
trip to the Royal Winter Fair
for her work as leader of the 4-H
clubs. She was unable to go as
her daughter, Trudy was sick.

Johnston, Bluevale is visiting with
Miss Margaret R. Jackson this

Congratulations are extended to
Ed Davies who won the Class E
Championship Trophy in horse-
shoe pitching last Saturday at the
Royal Winter Fair. Court Kerr
won sixth place in Class B at
the same match,
Mrs. Hugh King's Funeral
Requiem High Mass was held
at St. Augustine Roman Catholic
Church by Rev. Father Achta-
boweki for the late Mrs. Hugh
King. Burial was made at St.
Augustine R,C, cemetery. Pall-
bearers were Joseph King, Owen
King, Gus Redmond, Raymond
Leddy, Wilfred Kinahan and Cyril
Robinson.
Farm Union
Local 116 of the Ontario Far-
mer's Union was' held in SS 16,
East Wawanosh (Nesbit's School)
With a fair attendance. A lively
discussion was held on Farm Un-
ion Week, and plans were made
for membership week.
It was decided to hold a social
evening on Tuesday, November
24, card games to start at 8.15
p.m. The social committee will
look after prizes and lunch. Dur-
ing the evening membership
teams will be 'appointed to assist
those farmers who are interested
in a fair share of the National
Income, and to interest them in
becoming members of the Farm
Union.
This meeting was in charge of
the Local President, Ray Hanna.
Tidy Teens
The Auburn Tidy Teens 4-H
Homemaking Club met with the
president, Margaret Haines in
charge. The minutes were read
by the secretary Eileen Schneider.
Roll Call was answered by tell-
ing plans for rods and shelves
in their clothes closets,
Mrs. Keith Meehan the leader
discussed plans for achievement
day and had record books brought
Up to date. She also talked about
curtains for improvised clothes
closets.
The assistant leader, Mrs. Ed
Davies demonstrated the making
of a laundry bag and suitable
materials. She showed how to
cover hangers with velvet and
each girl covered her clothes
hanger.
Quistmas Fair
Christmas trees, reindeer and
other decorations covered with
silver and the Playing of Christ-
mas carols formed a lovely set-
ting in the Sunday School audi-
torium for the Woman's Associa-
tion. annual Christmas Pair at . Knox United Church last Friday,
Rev. R. NI, Sweeney opened the
Fair and welcomed the guests.

The decorating was done by the
president, Mrs. Arthur Grange, assisted by Mrs. Maurice Bean
and Mrs. George Wilkin. These
various conveners were assisted
by all the members of the W.A.
During the evening Miss Clare
Taylor, Blyth, showed pictures of
her stay at Frobisher Bay and
her work among the Eskimos,
this was in charge of William L.
Craig. Approximately $300 .was
realized from this fair,
Women's Institute
Plans were made for the
Christmas meeting of the Auburn
Women's Institute when the
members will bring a guest. Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt presided for the
meeting. Mrs. Robert J, Phillips
was at the piano. The minutes
were read by Mrs, Bert Craig.
A letter was read concerning
a pottery demonstration and the
secretary was instructed to write
about these exhibits and to learn
more about English pottery. The
president urged all over the age
of 21 years to receive their polio
shots.
Each member is 'asked to bring
a donation to the next meeting
for the War Memorial Children's
Hospital, London in the form of
jellies, jams, dolls• and• games suit-
able for little gifts. A shower
will be held for the Children's
Aid Society and anyone wishing
to contribute clothing, gifts or
money will leave it at the table
at the door.
The 25 cent gift exchange will
be in charge of Mrs. William
Straughan and Mrs. Arnold Craig.
Mrs. Thomas Lawlor reported
about the lamp shade course
which will start on Thursday, No-
vember 26 at 2 p.m. Any one in-
terested is welcome.
Roll call was answered by nam-
ing a Canadian tree and the use
of its wood. The motto "Peace
can. never be preserved in family
jars" was read by Mrs. Herbert
Govier. She gave some worthwhile
thoughts ending by bringing back
to mind that this is memorial
month observing the peace trea-
ties of both world wars.
The convener of agriculture
and Canadian industries, Mrs.
Frank Raithby spoke on careers
by the dozen in agriculture, sta-
ting that agriculture must keep
up in world progress and thous-
ands of scientists are at work con-
tinually to produce plants and
animals which provide more 'and

men's Auxiliary of St. James
Church, Middleton, will be held

WA Social
The community is invited by
'the Women's Association to at-
tend a . social evening in SS 9
schoolhouse on Friday evening,
November 27 at 8.30 o'clock. Miss
Claire Taylor, Blyth, will show
coloured slides and films of life
Among the Eskimos of Frobisher
Bay on Baffin Island, This is a
rare opportunity to gain first
hand knowledge of these remote
regions. Everyone is welcome and
the WA ladies will provide lunch,
better food at lower cost.
She closed her talk by quoting
a Canadian scientist who, has said
that when all the world's re-sources of coal, oil and uranium
have been exhausted, and ail its
water resources harnessed, the
agriculturalist, together with the
forester, will still be improving
and increasing the products a the
soil.
The next meeting will have a
pot luck lunch with Mrs. W. Brad-
nook, Mrs. Frank Raithby and
Mrs. Andrew Kirkeinmeil in
charge. An auction was conduct-
ed by Mrs. George William and
Mrs. Ed Davies. Lunch was serv-
ed by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell,
Mrs. George Haggitt and Mrs. J.
C. Stoltz.
