Layman's Sunday was observed
here on Sunday, Earl Hamilton,
Wingham occupied the pulpit, with
the Rev. Funge and Clair Vincent
assisting,
Three-year-old Brian, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Len Radford, is a pat-
ient in the Sick Children's Hospi-
tal in London, receiving treatment
on his back.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen spent
Sunday at, the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Marshall, also attend-
ing anniversary services at Kirk-
ton United Church,
David Ewan . who has' been un-
der the doctor's care for the past
few days is improving. He is re-
cuperating at the home of Mrs.
Thomas Fairservice,
George Carter,'Wilmer and Jim
Howatt and Robert Gardiner re-
turned last Tuesday, from South-
ern Alberta, having secured sev-
eral loads of stocker cattle.
What could 'have resulted in a
serious accident occurred on Fri-
day morning, on the highway in

and Joyce, were Sunday evening
visitors with Mr, and Mrs. Clare

were Sunday visitors - With ' Mr.
and Mrs. Elmore Stephenson, Eg-
mondville.
Mr, and Mrs. Richard Robinson
were guests df Mr. and Mrs. El-
mer Hayter on -Sunday_ It being
Mrs. Robinson's birthday.
Mrs. Roy McBride, -Mrs. Bruce
Keys, Mrs. Re: K.> Peck, Mrs. Rich-
ard Robinson and Mrs. Allan Arm-
strong attended 'the WA Rally in
Auburn on October 26.
Rally Day
Rally Day was observed in Go-
shen United Church on Sunday,
November 1. A Junior choir sang
two special numbers. Scripture
was read by the Sunday School
superintendent Anson: McKinley.
A story on Africa was read by
Mrs. Anson McKinley. At the
close of the service, seals were
presented to members for regular
attendance.
WA Supper
' The Woman's Association of
Goshen United Church held a sup-
per in the Sunday • School rooms
on Tuesday, October 27, with' Rev.
Patrick, Bayfield, as their after
dinner speaker. His talk was on
how salt is being mined at Goder-
ten. Other numbers on the pro-
gram were songs by the Lobb trio,
Brucefield; two readings by Mrs.
Newel Geiger and trumpet solos
by Mrs. Clare McBride, Rev. T.
J. Pitt was master of seremonies.

motorcycle into the path of the
car demolishing his bike and caus-
ing considerable damage to the
car. Carman suffered an injured
heel and broken spectacles,
The pastoral charge dinner held
last Thursday evening, in the com-
munity hall was well attended.
About 150 sat down to a sump-
tious repast, skillfully served by
friends from the Blyth charge.
After dinner all repaired to the
auditorium and a sing song led by
the Rev. A, Funge, and Mrs. Alan
Shaddick was enjoyed.
Two films pertaining to the sec-
tor plan were Presented, after
which Norman Alexander in the
chair, gave an outline of the re-
sponsibilities which are entailed'.
He also called on the heads of the
various committees to speak on
their particular feature of the
budget for 1960

On Thursday -evening, October
29, at the home of Mrs. Percy
Carter, the second meeting of the
Londesboro raker 8 Club was
held. Attending were Kay Carter,
Linda Welhanks, Bonnie Evans,
Brenda Kennedy, Thelma Riley,
Bernice Hilnking, Ann Knapp,
Bonnie Kennedy and Miss' Bette
Tillman, Clinton, home economist
for Huron. Project for the even-
ing was •a hat box and standard.
Lunch committee, for the evening
were Bonnie Kennedy and Kay
Carter:

The ladies of the WA of the
United .Church; held a successful
bazaar last Saturday afternoon,
in the township hall.
LOL 1035 is holding their an-
nual fowl supper on Friday even-
ing in the Orange hall.
Barry Taylor, Frank Postill and
Robert McClymont, who are at-
tendire Ridgetown Agricultural
School, spent the weekend at their
respectfire homes.
A Remembrance Day service will
be held in the United Church next
Suunday, at 10.15 a.m. and will
proceed to the Memorial at 11 a.m.
Rev. T. J. Pitt will be in charge
of the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson
and family and her mother, Mrs.
Edgar Lawson, visited last Sun-
day in Kitchener with Mr. and
Mrs. William Kruse and Slizabeth.
Mrs. Stanley Johnston spent a
few days last week with her
daughter, Mrs. Donald Campbell,
Mr. Campbell and family in Goder-
ich,
Mrs. Betty Wilkin, Mrs. Ila
Worsen, Goderich, and William S.
Craig, Clinton, were guests sing-
ers at Main Street United Church,
at it's anniversary services recen-
tly.

Mrs, R. C. Pitt

The Reverend Canon Lionel Nei-
les, London, secretary-treasurer of
the Diocese of Huron, assisted by
the Reverend E. J. B. Harrison,
officiated on Saturday, October 31,
1959, 'at the burial of Beatrice
Ida Stevenson, widow of the Rev-
erend Reginald Charles' Pitts,
Meaford,
The crematory remains which
had rested in Trinity Church,
Bayfield, for ten days, were depos-
ited In the grave of her daughter,
Mary and husband, in Bayfield
cemetery.
Attending from a distance were
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pitts, Toron-
to, and Mr. and Mrs. William
Scotehmer, Egrnondville,
Born in Lutterworth, Leceister,
England (John Wesley's home vil-
lage) September 15, 1876, the de-
ceased woman was the only daugh-
ter in a family of seven, of the
late Mr, and Mrs. Charles Steven-
son.
As a young lady, she emigrated
to Canada to keep house for her
brother Harold and Robert, ran-
chers near Strathclair, Man. Here
she met 'and married the Rever-
end R. C. Pitts, after having at-
tended the Church of England
Deaconess School in Toronto.
After appointments in Manitoba
arid Cochrane, Ontario, Mrs. Pitts
came with her husband and three
children to grace the rectory of
Trinity Church Parish, with her
dignity and kindliness from Mar-
ch 1920 to September 1922. Her
only daughter, Beatrice Mary
died here January 11, 1921, in her
eights year, and her husband pre-
deceased 'her in Meaford, Novem-
ber 25, 1955.
Surviving are her two sons, the
Reverend Douglas Pitts, St. Paul,
Minn., and Albert Pitts', Toronto;
Three grandchildren, Brian, Reg-
inald and Janet, St. Paul, Minn.;
and four brothers, Stewart, Shoal
Lake, Man., Robert, Kenora, On-
tario; Douglas, New Zealand, and
the Reverend Reginald B. Stev-
enson, Washington, DC.
Mrs. Pitts had gone to visit her
older son and family in Water-
ville, Minn., in 'the summer. She
had planned to return to Meaford
and make arrangements to live in
Minnesota, when she was striken.
She went on to a higher service in
Fairbault, Minn., on October 2,
1959.
The funeral service was held in
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church,
Waterville, Minn., followed by cre-
mation on October 5.

side, spent last weekend with_ her
mother, Mrs. Herbert Gooier.
Mrs. Leo Ziler and son John,

RN, Mitchell, were recent guests
of their brother, Kenneth Scott,
Mrs, Scott and family.
Miss Ruth Andrews returned to
her position in London, after a
week's convalescing at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. War-
ner Andrews and family.
Hallowe'en has come and gone,
and so are the hundred or more
children who went from house to
house for treats on Saturday even-
ing. Very little damage was done
as the Provincial Police patrolled
the village very faithfully.
