Funeral services were held last
Thursday morning for the late
Mrs. John Redmond who passed
away in 'Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, on September 28, in her 85th
year. She was the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. John Red-
mond, and Was born' in Goderich.

'The Airtiwell Mission Circle held
their 'September meeting at the
'home of Mrs. Charles Merrill.
With the president, Mrs. Harry
Lear in the chair, the meeting op-
ened with hymn 30Q followed by
prayer,
Fourteen answered the roll and
there were seven Visitors. A let-
ter from Mrs. Seymour lVfeLeod,
Cockburn ' Island, -Ont., thanking
the circle for two bales of cloth-
ing received was read. IVIrs. Jack
Lee gave the treasurer's report.
The offering and birthday pen-
nies were received. Mrs. George
Wright gave a Stewardship read-
ing entitled, "Mud." Dot Mc-
Lean gave a temperance reading,
"If for Youth." Mrs, Neville For-
bes gave the last chapter of the
study book,
The devotional period was tak-
en by Edythe Beacom and Mrs.
Neville Forbes. Edith read a
story, "Fellow Workers with
God." Scripture was read by Mrs,
Forbes , and she led in prayer.
Mrs, Forbes read the story "Chur-
ch, Haven for Relaxing,".
late Mr. Redmond, they took up
residence on their farm in West
Wawanosh township. She was
predeceased by her husband 25
years ago. She was a member of
the St. Augustine RC Church.
She is survived by one daughter
Mae, Windsor; three sons, Will-
iam, Gus and Theodore all of West
Wawanosh. Also seven grand-
children and sister, Mrs. Hugh
King, London.
Regiexn high mass was sung at
the St. Augustine Roman Catho-
lic Church with burial in the
cemetery there. Pallbearers were
Wilfred Kinehan, Thomas Web-
ster, Charles King, William J.
Hallahan, Mason McAllister and
Brown Smyth.
Wolter L Johnston
A well-known resident of the
Hayfield district for many years,
Walter Leo Johnston passed away
at Clinton Public Hospital on Fri-
day, October 2, in his 44th year.
He had been a patient at the
Clinton hospital for three weeks,
and prior to that had been in
Victoria Hospital, London, for
two months.
Mr. Johnston served overseas
with the Canadian Army for five
years, and was a member of the
Canadian Legion, Clinton Branch
140. He was born in Stanley
Township, on October 23, 1915, a
son of the late Mr, and Mr's. Wil-
liam Johnston,
Surviving besides his wife, the
former Alice Beaver, Zurich, are:
one son, Danny; two daughters,
Grace and Cheryl, all at home;
two brothers, Elmer, Galt, and
Ford, London, and one sister,
Audrey, Mrs. Angus McRae, Lon-
don.
The body rested at the West-
lake funeral home, Zurich, from
where the funeral service was
held on Monday, October 5, with
interment being made in St. Pet-
er's Lutheran Cemetery, Goshen
Line. Rev. W. P. Fischer, Zurich,
and Rev. E, J. B. Harrison, Bay-
field, officiated, Pallbearers were
Bert Greer, Melvin Greer, Grant
Turner, Victor Hargreaves, Mel
Graham and Joseph Wild.
William Henry Govier

William Henry Govier passed
away suddenly in the Huron
County Home, Clinton, on Friday,
September 25, in his 78th year.
He was born in East Wawanosh
township in 1882, the son of the
late Harry Govier and Alice Shep-
pard.
Mr. Govier was married on Oc-
tober 21, 1909 to Margaret Buch-
anan who predeceased him in
June 1953. He was employed by
the CNR out of Londesboro and
Vineland for several years; later
returning to the Westfield district,
and moving to Blyth in September
1945.
Surviving are two sons, Murvin,
Morris Township; Robert, Hullett,
and four daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Alice) Anstay, Mrs. Mel (Viola)
Good, Mrs. Sarto Mea (Dorothy)
Healy, all of Goderich; and Mrs.
Earl (Margaret) Caldwell, East
Wawanosh. Also 21 grandchild-
ren and four great-grandchildren.
Service was from. the Tasker
Memorial Chapel with Rev. E. Mc-
Lagan, and burial in Blyth Ceme-
tery. Pallbearers were Reg. and
Keith Good, William Anstay, Jack
Caldwell, Murray Govier and Bob
McDougall, all grandchildren. Flo-
werbearers were three nephews,
Carl and Albert Govier and Bill
Buchanan.

Silver Wedding
The home of Mr, and Mrs. Jim
Bolger, Walton, was beautifully
decorated for the 25th wedding
anniversary of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs, Alvin Leatherland. The
dining room was decorated with
pink and white streamers and
wedding bells and the annivers-
ary cake centred the table flank-
ed with lighted tapers and small
bouquets of pink asters.
Over 30 guests sat down to
dinner and a social evening was
spent, During the evening a small
wagon decorated in silver, was
drawn in by Mary Lou Vincent
and Paul Chamney containing a
miniature chesterfield suite re-
presenting the large gift that was
delivered to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leatherland, and also other
gifts,
Mr. and Mrs. Leatherland were
married in St, George's Anglican
Church, Goderich. Mrs. Leather-
land was formerly Lillian Leggett,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
H. Leggett; and Alvin is the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Lea-
therland, Tuckersmith. Since their
marriage they have resided on the
Auburn-Blyth road.
They have a family of one son,
Edgar, and four daughters, Mrs.
Gordon (Laura May) Chamney,
Mrs, Jim (June) Bolger, Misses
Marie and Joyce, also five grand-
children. They are both valued
members of Knox Presbyterian
Church where Mr. Leatherland is
a member of the board of man-
agers and Mrs. Leatherland is sec-
retary of the Women's Missionary
Society and also a teacher in the
Sabbath School,
Lynn Youngblut has obtained a
position at Orillia where he will
work as a chartered accountant.
He is also studying with Queen's
University.
Congratulations to Keith Young-
blut, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs.
Major Youngblut on obtaining his
Bachelor of Science degree from
Queen's University. He is employ-
ed by Consolidated Dennison Min-
ning Co. at Spragge, Ontario.
Mr. and Mrs. James Hembly
and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johns-
ton were guests last Saturday at
the Hembly-Fletcher wedding at
Palmerston The groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hembly.
Miss Marjorie Young has re-
turned to her position in the Bank
of Commerce, Goderich, after sp-
ending a couple of weeks with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Meredith
Young.
Harry Webster returned recen-
tly from a trip to visit relatives
at Rockford, Illinois,
Mrs, Arthur Grange, Margo,
Jennifer and Shelly attended an-
niversary service at Benmiller
church last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Snelling,
Brucefield, were guests last Wed-
nesday with her brother, Andrew
Kirkconnell, Mrs. Kirkconnell,
Mary and Diane.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shob-
brook and Margaret, Blyth and
Mr. and Mrs. Meredith Young and
Miss Marjorie were recent Lon-
don visitors,
Ross Youngblut left for Schrei-
ber, Ontario, where he is seek-
ing a position.
Miss Mary Houston, Hamilton,
and Miss Frances Houston, R.N.,
London, spent the weekend with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kirkcon-
nell and Donald, Goderich, visit-
ed on Sunday with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirkeannell
and family,
Mr, and Mrs. Wellington Goad,
Blyth, were guests last Sunday of
Mrs. John Graham.

Edna Hickingbottom), Kelatern,
Sask., and Ernie and Miss Mabel

ly called on friends in the vill-
age.
Friends of Donald Durnin will
be pleased to know that he is re-
covering from recent surgery in
London hospital.
Mrs. Charles Nevins was a
guest at the Clark-Nevin wedding
at Nile United Church, last Sat-
urday.
99th Anniversary
Knox Presbyterian Church ob-
served the 99th year of Presby.
terianism in the village of Au-
burn with good congregations to
hear the guest speaker, Rev. Neil
McCombie B.A., Ripley and Ash-
field Presbyterian churches.
He spoke on the symbol "The
burning bush" and the signific-
ance of "Nec Tamen Consumeba.-
tur" which is engraved around
the bush. He remarked that it is
a goodly heritage and should be
followed the same as Moses, Am-
os, the disciples and the apostle
Paul, to follow out the Great
Commission as this has always
been a missionary church.
He chose Stewardship as his
evening message blessing it on the
parables of the talents, or the par-
ables of the 'faithful and the un-
faithful. Special anthems were
sung by the choir and a beauti-
ful duet was sung by Mr, and
Mrs. Duncan Mackay.
Rev. D. J. Lane B.A., minister,
assisted and welcomed Rev. Mc-
Combie and the guests.
Service at Knox Presbyterian
Church next Sunday, October 4,
will be at 2.30 p.m. with Sabbath
School at 1.30. Sacrament of Holy
Communion will be observed at
that service.
Friends of Ernest Durnin are
pleased to know that he is able
to return from London hospital
and is recovering at his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Russel Stoltz, New
Dundee, were recent visitors with
his uncle, J. C. Stoltz and Mrs.
Stoltz.
