Against Wheatley
The Clinton Kinsmen PeeWee
lost the first game of the OBA
PeeWee "C" final to Wheatley
Wednesday afternoon, when they
were defeated 8-1.
Wheatley .scored the first run
of the game in the first
added three in the third on only
two hits, got three more in the
fifth on only one hit, and ecorecl
their final run in the sixth.
Clinton. scored their only run
in the fourth inning when John
Cooper led off wish a single, went
to second when Pearson walked,
stole third and came home on a
sacrifice fly.
Borden, McRae led the Clinton
team with two hits, Batkin, John
Cooper, B. Pearson and Phil
White each had singles.

Top -Trophy At
Club House Shoot
A Clinton teem. composed of
Earl Doucette. and Norm klarburn
defeated Goderich's Ashley and
Jack Gilbert in a shootoff to win
the Huron Fish and Game Trophy
in the Clinton Gun Chile's an-
nual trap shoot .Saturday.
Both teams had finished the re-
gular shoot with 109 points, Clin-
ton scored 113 in the playoff and
Goderich totalled 105.
An Exeter team consisting of
Harry Mathers and Earl Deters
was third.
In individual competition, Moth-
ers won the Roy McLeod Trophy
in Clacss "A" with Jack Gilbert
second and Doucette third. Wil-
liam Watson, Newmarket won the
Class "13" Carling Trophy in a
shootoff with Deters. Bill Stew-
art, London, was third.
In Class "C" competition for
the Gliddon Trophy, Bill Lockner,
Grand Bend, finished first and
James East, Clinton, was second,
two runs, no hits, walked two men
and struck out three. Laurie Col-
quhoun took over the pitching in
the third and allowed six runs
on four hits, he walked five, while
striking out ten. Jim Livermore
and Borden McRae shared the
catching duties. Next game is in

Local Peewees Take
OBA Semi-Finals
From Bradford
Clinton Kinsmen Peewees won
the third and deciding game of
the OBA Peewee "C" semi-final
series with Bradford last Satur.,

Clinton were trailing by a 7-5
score going into the top of the
seventh, but scored four times to
win the game, Clinton scored four
in the first and added a singleton
in the second.
Bradford scored once in the
first and added three runs in each

hits each, Larry, Pickett, Laurie

Golf Season Nearing
End; Local Groups
Have Tournaments
A very successful golf season
is coming to a close at the Bay-
field-Clinton course. Local groups
are now holding their tournaments.
During the past week the Kinsmen
and Legion of Clinton held tour-
neys.
Fred Hulls, owner-manager of
the course, entertained members
of the Bayfield volunteer fire-brig-
ade last Thursday, September 24:
Golf, dinner and an evening of
cards was enjoyed. This was in
appreciation of a fire call to the
golf course earlier in the season
to put out a tractor fire.
Legion Tourney
Jim Graham had to play two
extra holes on Sunday to beat out
Bud Schoenhals, a first-year golf-
er, to win the Legion trophy. Len
Arnston, chairman of the golf out-
ing, came in third with an 85. He
also won the low net when he shot
a 35 on his first nine. Graham
and Schoenhals finished 18 holes
with 82 each. Other top scores
were: Bob Draper 86, Art Mount-
ford 86; George Campbell and
Harold Black 90, There were 18
Legionaires participating.
Kinsmen Invitation
In the Clinton Kinsmen invita-
tion games last Wednesday after-
noon, Royce Macaulay won the
first low gross prize, with Bob
Campbell second. Low net winner
was Bob Draper with Ross Colqu-
houn second. Bill German, playing
his first game of golf, won the
consolation prize.
A nearly new pocket book with
only 50 cents inside, and no ident-
ification, was left in the pro shop
at the course recently. The owner
may have same by calling at the
News-Record office or enquiring at
the golf club.
Rifle Club Elects
Officers for 1959441
The Clinton Ladies Rifle Club
held the first meeting 9f . their
1959-60 season on the evening Of
September 23 and elected the fol-
lowing officers; president, Mrs, T.
Darling; secretary, Mrs. R, Barr;
treasurer, Mrs. Re McCann; team
captains, Mrs. K. Schubert, Mrs.
I. Epps; social .conveners, Mrs D.
Currie, Mrs. E. Doucette.
Retiring officers were given a
hearty vote of thanks for an ex-
cellent job done clueing the last
year's activities,
Redmen Drop First
Football Game
To Seaforth Eleven
Clinton District Collegiate Insti-
tute Redmen opened the HSSA
football schedule at Seaforth last
Thursday'4 afternoon and came
away on the short end of a 19-0
score.
Both teams played a scoreless
first half, with neither having
much opportunity to score.
Seaforth hit the scoring column
in the third quarter when they
scored their first touchdown on a
pass play, They converted to make
the score 7-0. Before, the quarter
ended they. scored two unconvert-
ed touchdowns to go ahead 19-0,
The Redmen tried very hard in
the fourth quarter but could not
crash the Seaforth defence.
First home game for the Red-
men will be this afternoon (Thurs-
day, October 1), when they play
host to Goderich.

Boy Scout News
Following the opening of the
Scout meeting on September 23,
a game was played on the public
school playground in the dark for
half an hour. After that there
was an instruction period and a
council fire.
Tom Darling and Bill Cleaves,
a new assistant scoutmaster were
also present.
A court of honour (patrol lea-
der's meeting) was held at Stev-
en Cooke's home on Monday night
with Scouter Percy Brown in
charge.

Mrs. John McCowan, Porter's Hill,
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Taylor and

Airwomen Compete
For Championship
On Softball Field
RCAF Station Clinton Airwo-
men's Softball Team is to journey to Winnipeg to compete in the
Training Command Championship
soon.
The Clinton team clinched the
Eastern Zone Championship in an
elimination playoff series during
which they defeated Station Ayl-
mer by a score of 10 to 3 and Sta-
tion St, Johns 5 to 4, They meet
the Station Winnipeg team. for
the Training Command Women
Personnel Softball Championship.
The Clinton team has last only
one game in regular and exhibi-
tion play this season, The team
is composed of staff and student
Airwomen. They are Sergeant J.
P. Livermore, Corporal A, J. Fish-
er, Leading Aircraft Women S. R.
McRitehie, M. B. Ryan, Aircraft
Women N. C. Campbell, 13. A.
Wintermeyer, D. Clark, J. A.
