Mr, 'and Mrs. Ed Davies re-
turned on Monday evening Tram
their vacation spent in Mira:ire,

lage last week.

Mrs. George Wilkin, Patsy and
Mary were at Harriet= last week
attending the 50th wedding anni-
versary of Mr. and Mrs. 3. D.
Jackson, They are aunt and uncle
of Mr. Wilkin.
Mrs. Beatrice Lovett, St. Cath-
erines is a guest of Miss Margaret
Jackson this week, and is visit-
ing other relatives in the district,
Mr. and Mrs. George Day, Mrs.
Jack Day and Jane, Wingham,
visited with Mr. and Mrs, Arnold
Craig last Sunday,
Mr. and Mrs, Black, Toronto,
are visiting with Mrs. George
Hamilton, Mrs. Black was former-
ly Edith Turner and lived in the
house now occupied by Mr. and
Mrs. K. Staples and family.
Mr. and Mrs, Carl Wagner,
Glen Willow, Ohio, are vacation-
lag at the home of his brothers,
IVir. Walter and Mr. William Wag-
ner and Miss Minnie Wagner, and
other relatives.
Friends of little Randy Machan
will be pleased to know that he is
recovering in :ante% Public Hos-
pital from his sickness, Nis fath-
er, Keith Meehan underwent sur-
gery there the first of this week,

observe their 99th anniversary
next Sunday at 11 .aern. and 7.30
Pen. Standard Time, Rev, Neil
McCombie, minister of Ripley and
Ashfiela Presbyterian Churches
will be the guest speaker. Special
music will be supplied. Everyone
is invited to attend these servic-

Silver Wedding
To the strain of the wedding
march played by Miss Margaret
A, Jackson, Mrs. William J. Craig
ushered the guests of honour, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert J. Phillips to two
prettily .decorated chairs. The
Orange Hall was decorated with
lighted tapers, autumn flowers,
and the bride and groom of 25
years entered by candlelight.
Mrs. William T, Robinson pinned
corsages on them and Miss Marg-
aret R. Jackson read an address
of good wishes from the friends
and neighbours assembled to ob-
serve this occasion.
Mrs. William. Straughan pres-
ented Mr. and Mrs, Phillips with
a silver anniversary money tree.
Mr. Phillips thanked everyone for
the gift and Mrs. Phillips also
thanked the friends for this sur-
prise party. Mrs. Wes Bradnock
was chairman and Mrs. William
3. Craig led in a sing-song with
Miss Jackson at the piano.
A humorous reading was given
by Mrs. Roy Finnigan, followed
by a solo by Mrs. Gordon R. Tay-
lor, Mrs. Duncan Mackay pleas-
ed everyone by playing one of the
firts selections •that she learned
when a music student of Mrs,
Phillips'.
Misses June and Joan Mills
sang two lovely duets and Mr.
and Mrs'. Everett Taylor played a
harmonica duet accompanied by
Mrs. Kenneth McDougall. Mrs.
Craig gave a musical reading and
Mrs. G. Taylor sang "Sweet Au-
burn". Rev, R Sweeney played
two fine violin solos.
Words of congratulations were
expressed by Raymond Redmond,
Amos Andrew, Goderich; Keith
Arthur, Frank Raithby, Adam
Hamilton, who was banker here
in 1913, and Harry Sturdy, Clin-
ton. A deliicous lunch was served
and during the lunch hour words
were expressed to the honoured
couple by William J. Craig, Jam-
es Hembly, William Straughan
and Mrs. Russel Shaw, Allistori,
and Rev. Sweeney.
Broadfoot-Horton
A pretty wedding was solem-
nized at Victoria Street United
Church, Goderich on Saturday,
September 12, when Donna Marie
Horton, Goderich, and Robert Al-
exander Broadfoot, Brucefield, ex-
changed Wedding Nows.
The bride is the only daughter
of Mr. and Mrs; Frank Horton,
Goderich, and the groom is the
son of Mr, and Mrs. John Broad-
foot;°R,R 1°, Bruceffeld, Rev. S. A.
Moote officiated, assisted by Rev.
Sydney Davison, Brucefield.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, was lovely in a gown
of Chantilly lace over satin with
an empire waistline, lily point
sleeves with •a seed pearl trim at
the high neckline. The waist-leng-
th veil was held in place with a
seed pearl and sequin trimmed ti-
ara. She wore a sterling silver
pendant with earrings to match,
studded with single• pearls, which
was the gift of the groom. She
caeried a white Bible crested with
red roses.
Miss Helene Mahood, Goderich,
was maid of honour, and brides-
maids were Miss Ann Pinder and
Miss Kay Morrison, both of Gode-
rich. They were gowned in yellow
chiffon over taffeta with match-
ing headdresses, and carried bou-
quets of yellow 'mums.
Groomsman was Jack Dallas,
Brucefield, and ushers were Ever-
ett Horton, Goderich, brother of
the bride, and Jack Broadfoot,
Brucefield, brother of the groom.
Frank Bisset was organist and
Miss Diane Vanderburg was solo-
ist.
Guests were from St. Joseph Is-
land, Sundridge, London, Guelph,
Seaforth, Beaehville, Listowel,
Brucefield and Molesworth. The
reception was held in the church
parlors. The bride's mother re-
ceived the guests in a powder blue
lace over taffeta with pink acces-
sories and a corsage of pink car-
nations. The groom's mother wore
brown figured orlon and wool
with beige accessories and a cor-
sage of white carnations.
The bride donned blue linen
trimmed with white lace, navy ac-
cessories and a corsage of white
carnations for a wedding trip to
Northern Ontario. The couple will
reside on the groom's farm in
Tuckensmith,
Two showers were held in her
honour prior to her marriage; one
was at the home of Mrs. Arthur
Griffith, and one by her attend-
ants at the home of Miss Ann
Pinder. She received many lovely
and 'useful gifts at both showers.
Mrs, Franklin Horton enter-
tained at a trousseau tea in honor
of her daughter. Flowers were

Standards of gladioli in white
and pink with ferns and two can-
delabra. were lovely in Wesley-
Willie United Church on, Satur-
day, September 12, when Marilyn
Jean Martin, London, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. T. Wilbur Martin,
Clinton, became the bride of Dav-
id J, Smith, Thorndale, son of
Mr. and .Mrs. Norman Smith,
Thorndale.
The Rev. J. MeKim conduct-
ed the double-ring ceremony.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride wore floor length
gown of 'I Do" silk taffeta over
pellon; the scalloped neckline and
bodice, were trimmed with chan-
tilly lace, sequins and seed pearls,
flowing to the sides where large
roses graced the bouffant skirt,
styled with bustle back and chap-
el train, Her headdress of pearls
and sequins on a Juliette cap of
pure silk illusion held a fingertip
veil. She carried happiness red
roses and stephanotis.
Miss Grace Ewing, Chatham,
cousin of the bride was maid of
honour and wore Royal blue bro-
caded taffeta with matching fea-
ther hat and shoes, and carried
yellow Princess Elizabeth roses.
Miss Ruth Ann Ewing, also of
Chatham, and a cousin of the
bride, was dressed similarly to the
maid of honour.
Ushers were Ron Tel-quart,
Thorndale; Douglas Ewing Tup-
perville, William Martin, Ottawa,
Emerson Coleman, Seaforth, was
groomsman.
Mrs. Charles McCarron, Wall-
aceburg, cousin of the bride, was
soloist and was accompanied by
Mrs. M. R. Rennie, Seaforth, in
"0 Perfect Love" and "The Wed-
ding Prayer".
The church parlour was decor-
ated in gladioli and fern for the
reception when the bride's moth-
er received in beige lace and a
tawny gold corsage. Mrs, Smith
assisted in navy blue with pink
delight roses.
For a wedding trip to New York
City, the bride donned a royal
blue suit and a red rose corsage.
Upon their return they will live
at Thorndale. The bride has been
employed with the Ex-Cell-0 Cor-
poration of Canada Ltd„ in Lon-
don.

Mrs, M. Horton, grandmother of
the bride, poured tea in the after-
noon and evening assisted by Mrs.
Fred Horton and Mrs. Charles
Moore, Goderich, aunts of the
bride, Miss Kay Morrison, Miss
Helene Mahood and Miss Linda
Louiselle, showed the gifts and
trousseau.

SS 4, Goderick To
Pack Clothing .Bale
The September meeting of the
SS 4, Goderich -Township, Com-
munity Club was held at the home
of Mrs. Walter Forbes, with n
members and nne visitor present,
There was a short business ses-
sion and it was decided the club
would send a bale of clothing to
some needy ones, and roll call
for October should be answered
by handing in good used clothing.
The remainder of the afternoon
was spent in quilting and the
meeting was closed with the Miz-
Pah benediction
Lunch was served by the hos-
tess, assisted by Mrs, Fred Lebb
and Mrs, Ira Merrill. The next
meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs, Morgan Jones,

Perdue-Hutchins
The Rev. J. A. McKim united
in marriage at Wesley-Willis Un-
ited Church, Clinton, Doris Jean,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Hutchins, Ayr and Murray Clar-
ence Perdue, son of Mr, and Mrs.
Clarence Perdue, Clinton.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride wore a floor length
gown of chiffon taffeta over tulle,
The fitted elongated bodice was
styled with short sleeves, scooped
neckline edged with cut work ap-
pliques and graced with a back
gathered drape falling to a V. The
double French ilusion Veil was
held by a crown lace edged and
with pearls and she carried a
white Bible crested with a white
orchid,
Gowned alike in short dresses
of emerald green, Mrs. Grant Ir-
win was matron of honour for
her sister, and bridesmaids were,
Mrs. Morley Snyder and Mrs. Ar-
thur Eaton, also sisters of the
bride.
Earl Livermore was groomsman
and guests were ushered by Ar-
thur Eaton and Reginald Miller,
For a reception in the church
parlours the bride's mother re-
ceived in peacock blue brocaded
taffeta with white accessories and
a corsage of white carnations. She
was assisted by the groom's mo-
ther in powder blue with pink
accessories and a corsage of pink
carnations.
For a wedding trip to points
south the bride wore a blue fig-
ured sheath dress with matching
jacket, black and white accessor-
ies and a white orchid corsage.
The couple are residing in Lon-
don.

Ruby Cecile Webster, Hensel",
and Wayne Orville Ford, Exeter,
exchanged marriage vows before
the Rev. R. March in a pretty
ceremony at Central United Ch-
urch manse, Stratford, on Satur-
day, September 19, at 2 p.m. The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Percy Webster, Hensel', and
the groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Orville Ford, Exeter.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, was lovely in a floor
length wedding gown of nylon
lace styled with lily point sleeves.
A crown headdress held her sh-
oulder length veil of nylon lace,
and she carried a bridal bouquet
of red roses and white 'mums.
M. Kenneth Wildfong, Exeter
attended her sister as maid of
honour, wearing a waltz length
gown of lilac nylon over taffeta,
and she carried white and blue
'mums.
Kenneth Wildfong, Exeter, was
groomsman.
For the weding reception held
at the home of the bride's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Web-
ster, Hensel', the bride's mother
received wearing navy bengaline
with white accessories, and pink
rose corsage. The groom's mother
chose a gown in light blue shade
with accessories in white, wear-
ing a red rose corsage.
The bridal table was centered
with a thre tier wedding cake,
flanked with red roses and white
'mums.
For travelling for their honey-
moon to London and Windsor the
bride donned a light blue nylon
crepe ensemble with white ac-
cessories and pink rose corsage.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lamont visit-
ed on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
James Stirling.
Mrs, John McKinley was taken
to Clinton Public Hospital on Sat-
urday. Since then she has taken
a stroke, •
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Elliott at-
tended Western Fair on Thurs-
day and also visited the latter's
atntt, Fatne Logan, who is a pat-
ient in hospital at London,
Mrs. Reta Upshall spent the
Weekend with her sister, Mrs.
Minnie Hayter.
There will be no church service
on Sunday at Goshen Church, due
to anniversary services being held
in the Varna United Church. Ser-
vices are at 11 a.m, and 7,30 p.n'i.
The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety will meet on Thursday night
at the home of Mrs. Russel Erratt,
with. Mrs, Rob Peck in charge of
the program.
