Fair At Henson

Hensall Community Agricultur-
-al School Pair was held this past
Friday night at the Memorial
Centre, attended by 800, A parade
Was led by the Bannockburn Pipe
and Drum Band, Varna, with SS
10, Hay; SS 7, Iiibbert; SS 2„
Tucketsteith; and 'Hensel" Public
School participating.
Prizes were awarded for grain,
roots, vegetables, flowers, poultry,
livestock, pets, arts and crafts,
for which there were 1,000 entries
There were 110 classes with as
many as 18 entries in a class,
A sports program was featured.
Beautiful gifts displayed by
their daughter, Mrs. Ross Faber,
included a silver tea service, door
chimes, cutlery in stainless steel,
two crystal bowls and other gifts.

Lobb spent Sunday in Toronto.
Mrs, Bert Trewartha is' a pat-
ient in Clinton Public Hospital.
Mrs. Frank Norman, who has
been with her daughter, Mrs. H.
Hinz, New Hamburg, for some
time, is now a patient in the K-W
Hospital, Kitchener, where she
had a serious operation, the end
of last week,
Jack Norman, who has been at
Minden, for the past month, spent
the weekend at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Norman, prior to registering for
his third year at the University
of Toronto.
Kenneth Potter has registered
for his second year of the degree
course at the O.A.C., Guelph.
Holmesville WMS
The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety of Holmesville United Church
met in. the basement of the church
on Tuesday, September 15. Mrs.
Elmer Potter's group was in
charge of the program, and Mrs.
Morgan Jones was in the chair.
The call to worship was given
by Mrs. Morgan Jones and Mrs.
Stewart Farquhar read the Scrip-
ture lesson. A reading on Relig-
ious Thoughts was given by Mrs.
Kenneth Harris.
Mrs. Ninian Heard led in pray-
er. Mrs. Harry Cudmore read a
temperance article and Mrs. Bar-
rie Walter read an article on.
Young People's work in "Caravan-
ire
The president, Mrs. Carman
Tebbutt conducted the business.
Mrs. Harry Cuthnore gave a read-
ing, "The Song of a Oar and a
Missionary". Mrs. Elmer Potter
gave a talk on the life and work
of Theodore Panell, Missionary to
India. Mrs. Morgan Jones gave
the benediction.
The Woman's Association meet-
ing followed with the president,
Mrs. Reg Miller, in the chair. The
Scripture lesson was read by Mrs.
Miller, and Mrs. Stewart Farqu-
har gave the comments. The trea-
surer's report was given by Mrs.
Frank McCullough. Mrs, Edward
Grigg and Mrs. John Grigg were
appointed to decorate the church
for the anniversary services on
October 4.
It was decided to cater to the
Federation of Agriculture Ban-
quet in November, The meeting
closed with prayer by Mrs. Miller.
Hostesses for the day were Mrs.
Ninian Heard, Mrs. John Huller
and Mrs. Brogden MacMath.

The annual F-estival of the Darr.
vest Thanksgiving will be held in
St. James Church, Middleton on
Sunday, September 27, at 2.30
p.m. ]everyone is welcome, Please
note change of time, and from
this Sunday on, during the fall and winter months, the church
service in. St. James will continue
at Z30 p.m., ,with Sunday School
during the church service.

Anniversary services will be
held in Holmesville United Church
on Sunday, October 4, at 11 a.m.
and at 7.30 p.m. Rev. M. G. New-
ton, Smithville, a former minister,
is to be the guest speaker. Spec-
ial music is being arranged by the
choir, under the leadership of
Mrs. Lloyd Bond.
Baptism of two infants took place
in St, James Church, Middleton;
on. Sunday, September 20, with
the rector, the Rev, E, J. B. liar.a
rison officiating.
Christened were Cynthia Lou-
ise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Middleton and Kenneth
Ray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Wise, In each case the Wants
god-parents were its own parents.
Present were the children's paternal grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs, Charles Wise, Clin.
ton and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mid-dleton. of the home church.
Congratulations to Mr. Frank
Postil, son of Mr. and Mrs, Joseph
Postil, the Hayfield Line, who was the first boy to get his calf over
the finish line in the Aberdeen-
Angus Calf Scramble, held in On-
tario Arena, Western Fair Gr-
ounds on Tuesday of last week.
Frank's prize was a $100 pur-
chase certificate to assist in the
purchase of an Aberdeen-Angus
heifer calf which must be exhibit-
ed at the 1960 Western Fair.
The competition in this contest
was very keen and the action
second only to the Calgary Stam-
pede,
