for a trousseau tea in honour of
her daughter Marilyn, at her
home last Wednesday afternoon
and evening, September 9. Neigh-
bours +and close friends were wel-
comed at the door by Mrs. Mar-
tin and, Marilyn, with Mrs. Nor-
man Smith, mother of the groom-
elect, Thorndale. Miss Reta Yeo
was in charge of the guest book.
During the, afternoon, Mrs. Rob-
ert Draper displayed the gifts and
in the evening, Mrs. Ray Vincent
displayed them.
Pouring tea were Mrs. Russell
Coleman, Seaforth, in the after-
noon, and in the evening, Mrs. L.
E, Martin, Forest, aunt of the
bride. Mrs. Emmerson Coleman,
Seaforth and Mrs. Lloyd Batkin,
served in the tearoom.
The table was lovely with pink
gladioli in a crystal bowl, pink
tapers in matching crystal hold-
ers, all on white 'act. White wed-
ding bells above the table beauti-
fied the setting.
In the kitchen were Mrs, W. C.
Sinclair, Clinton, and Mrs. Lloyd
Batkin.
In London, office associates of
the bride at the Ex-Cello Comp-
any ,honoured her at a dinner
party. Neighbours here in Clin-
ton ,co-operated in presenting two
gifts to the young bride-elect,
Married on Saturday, the young
couple will live at Thorndale.

meeting on Thursday, September
10. Devotional service was taken
by Roberta Plumeteel. The busi-
ness was conducted by Mrs. Ruth
Knox.
Guest speaker was Mrs. Harry
Ball on their South American
trip which was much enjoyed by
all. Doris Batkin gave a poem and
Ray McKnight sang. Group 1 was
in charge of lunch.

15 members were present and an-
swered roll call with a verse from
the Bible containing the word,
"Love". Scripture was read by
Mrs. W. P. Roberts. Prayer was
given by Mrs. Frank Falconer
and the devotions by Mrs. Mer-
vyn Falconer. The topic on love
was taken by Mrs. E. Crich.
The WA plans to hold a turkey
banquet in the church basement
in October. Turner's WA has ac-
cepted an invitation from Burns
Church to attend their thankof-
fering service on 'Wednesday,
September 30, at 2.30 p.m. Lunch
was served after the meeting by
Mrs. Ernie Crich and Mrs. Erlin

Hospital Auxiliary
Begins Fall Season •
The first fall meeting of the
Clinton Hospital Auxiliary was
held on Tuesday, September 8 in
the Nurses' Residence. Mrs, Bee-
cher Menzies, president, opened
the meeting with the hospital
prayer. Routine reports ware read
and approved.
A letter of appreciation was
read from Miss Hilda Smith, super-
intendent, for the run cots which
they purchased for the use of the
mimes,
Mrs, Menzies made reference
to the ballet recital given by the
Pupils of Mrs. M, Zablocki at the
end of June ,the proceeds of which
were donated by the auxiliary.
It was agreed to purchase ed-
ucational colouring books and
crayons for children being admit-
ted to hospital, Plans are well
under way for the penny sale to
be held on October 3 in the store
next to the Bank of Montreal.
The store will open on Friday,
September 18.
Announcement was made of a
regional meeting to be held in
Goderich on October 7. Mrs. Men-
zies and Mrs, Duff Thompson
were appointed delegates to at-
tend the convention of the Provin-
cial Women's Hospital Auxiliaries
on October 26, 27 and 28 at the
Royal York Hotel, Toronto, Re-
freshments were served. Next
meeting will be on Tuesday even-
ing, October 6,

white nylon over tulle, with closed
ruffles, round neckline, crown
headdress of tulle, a fingertip veil
and one cultured pearl. She car-
ried yellow rosebuds.
Shirley Merkley was maid of
honour in yellow crystallette,
strapless ballerina style with bal-
loon skirt, matching halo head-
dress and carried mauve 'mums.

Rev. T. J. Pitt officiated at the
wedding in Varna United Church
parsonage on Saturday, September
12, when Gertrude Pearl, daugh-
ter of John F. Smith, Varna, be-
came the bride of Roy Craig El-
liott, RR 2, Walton, son of the
late Lorne H. Elliott and Mrs.
Elliott.
Mrs. Herbert Williamson, RR 1,
Walton, was matron of honour.
She is a sister of the groom. Mrs.

sage of pink roses.
Frank Smith, Verne, brother of

Following a wedding trip to
Manitoulin Island and through
Northern Michigan, the young
couple will live on the groom's
farm in McKillop Township.

Shirley Cooper Wins
Prize in Bermuda
Miss Shirley Cooper, formerly
Of Clinton, has sent us a POW
of the Bermuda Mid-Ocean News,
which serves the island on which
she has been employed for sever-
al years. She is the daughter of
Mr, and Mrs. Charles Cooper, R.R.
3, Clinton.
Miss Cooper was successful in
a Skil-word contest carried on by
the newspaper, and won the $25
prize (equal to $70.50). Miss Coop-
er is employed at the switchboard
of the Princess Hotel in Bermu-
da,

Fred H. Rumball
Funeral service was conducted
from the Ball and Mutch funeral
home, 153 High Street, Clinton,
to Clinton Cemetery on Wednes-
day for Frederick Hunter Rum-
ball, who passed away at his
home on Rattenbury Street West,
on Monday afternoon, September
7, The Rev. Charles S. Inder, St.
Paul's Anglican Church, Clinton,
officiated,
Pall-bearers were Douglas An-
drews, Alfred Crozier, Herbert
Bridle, Norman Counter, Howard
Cowan, Bruce Bartliff. Flower
bearers were Frank Fingland,
Harold Lawson, Fred Ford, Albert
Mitchell, Jack Cree and Gordon
Herman.
Born on February 28, 1805, in
Clinton, the son of J. B, and
Clara Rumball, Fred had a very
successful career in the Royal
Bank of Canada, retiring from
the main office in Montreal, to
Clinton six years ago.
He was a member of the Mas-
onic Lodge, and of Clinton Branch
140, Canadian Legion. he was not
married,

The Ladies' Auxiliary to Cana-
dian Legion Branch 140 met Sept-
ember 14 in Legion Memorial
Hale The president, Mrs. Cameron
Proctor, was in charge, Minutes
were read by Mrs. George Knights
in the absence of the secretary.
The summer's activities of a
banquet, annual picnic and two
weddings were outlined. Another
wedding is booked for October 10.
The accounts and financial state-
ment were given by the treasurer.
Correspondence was read and $10
voted to the CNIB,
Mrs. George Knights and Mrs.
William Holland were appointed
sports officers for ensuing year.
Mrs. William Holland favoured
with two numbers on her accor-
dion. Mrs. Alex Haddy's name
was drawn for the monthly prize.
She was absent and the draw will

Safe Cracking Approved
By Provincial Police
A safe-cracking at Goderich on
Tuesday was watched with inter-
est by members of the Ontario
Provincial Police, Actually the
job involved a vault in the of-
fice of Crown Attorney Glen Hays
in the court house.
Exhibits for use in a case at
present being heard during the
fall assizes in the county town
were put inside, and then it was
found the vault could not be op-
ened. An expert was flown in
from Toronto, and another from
Owen Sound, The door had to be
drilled to open it, so that con.
tents would be available,

Clayton Guest visited Mr. and
Mrs. Malcolm Toms over the
weekend. Mrs. Guest, who has
been visiting her sister for several
weeks, accompanied her husband
on his return to Leaside,
Mr. and Mrs. William Murray,
Warren, Mich,, who came on Tues-
day are staying with Mr. and Mrs,
Malcolm Toms.
