FAIR
WI Meeting
The Women's Tnstitute held its
September meeting on. Thursday
afternoon, haying as guests the
Grandmothers' Club, Two elderly
ladies at the Huron County Home
have been "adopted," The pro-
gramme consisted of a splendid
paper taken from the book, "Gone
With the Windsors", presented by
Mrs. Neville Forbes; a reading by
Mrs. Tamblyn and music by a trio
of girls, Kay Carter, Linda Well-
bank, accompanied by Karen Allen
on the guitar.
Prizes in various contests were
carried off by the grandmothers,
causing a lot of merriment. Tic-
kets for a penny sale were sold.
The first half of members appear-
ing on the roll contributed the art-
icles for sale.
A tasty lunch was served by
the hostesses.
WA Auction
The auction sale sponsored by
the Woman's Association and the
church board last Wednesday even-
ing was a decided success. Pro-
ceeds almost reached the $500
mark. The sponsors wish to thank
everyone who contributed articles
and also for the lively bidding
participated in.
Mr. and Mrs, Mark Spinney, of
Alma, Mich., visited with their
aunt, Mrs. Manning, Sr., last week,
also calling on other cousins in
the vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Radford
and. John left last Thursday to
attend the CNE, also visiting with
friends in Niagara,
Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong,
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter and
family, accompanied by Mr, and
Mrs. Fred Armstrong, Hamilton,
visited with Mr. and Mrs, Ken.
Armstrong, in Stratford, on Sin
day, Mr. and Mrs. Will Taman,
Brampton, are at present spending
a few days with the Armstrongs,
Mr. and Mrs. Will Govier have
returned to their home after a
lengthy absence due to sickness.
Mrs. Charles Riley, Seaforth, will
be with them for some time.
Mr. and Mrs. Caplin, Kitchener,
spent the Weekend with Mr, and
Mrs. Claire Vincent,
Mrs, Bentham, Oshawa, spent
last week with her sisters, Mrs.
Townsend and Mrs. Frank Little.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Weber,
Kitchener, were Saturday visitors
with Bert Aliens.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tamblyn
and Mrs. Manning Sr., visited with
'the latter's cousins, Mr. Gordon
Morrison and family, also Mr. Mel-
vin Morrisons, near Lucknow, on
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. William Hamilton,
Moorefield, were with the Robert
Thompsons.
Mrs. Robert Youngblut spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elgin
Josling and family.

Judge Live Stock
At Western Fair
Some 279 Junior F4rmers and
4-H Club boys will take part in
judging competitions at Western
Fair next Monday, September 14,
the opening day of the fair at
London. This is an all-time rec-
ord number of boys, states E. D.
McGugan, general manager of the
fair, Boys competing are from ten
counties. There are 91. junior
boys, 163 intermediate and 25
senior in the competitions.
Over 118 girls from the same
counties will take part in the 4-H
Homemaking program, also on
Monday. All boys and girls and
their leaders will be guests of the
fair at dinner Monday night and
also the grandstand performance.
The London Branch of the Cana-
dian Bank of Commerce will pre-
sent gold Watches to the top win-
ner in junior, intermediate and
senior competitions, The bank
will also present 12 valuable foun-
tain pens to other winners,
Oxford County heads the boys'
list with 78 entries, followed by
Middlesex 59; Perth 47, Lambton
28, Huron 27, Elgin 19, Norfolk
7, Bruce 6, Kent 5 and Essex 3.

Mrs. Allen MacDonald, Gode-
rich, and son Murray, Indo China,
who is home on furlough and Mrs.
Grant Stirling visited a few days
in Flint, Mich., and Chatham.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stirling and
son, Mark, spent the weekend with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James
R. Stirling.
Mrs. Eleanor Picot is with her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Picot, Goderich. Mrs.
E. Picot had been in the hospital
for three weeks and is improving
very slowly.
The bean harvesting is now in
full swing and the reports 'are
going to be a very good crop.

her teaching position at Oakrldge
Acres, a sub-division in London
Township.
Miss Mary Helen Yeo, has reg.
istered at the Stratford Teachers.
College for the one year course.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yeo and
Miss Eleanor Yeo left for Montreal
on Saturday, where Eleanor will
register as a nurse-in-training at
Royal Victoria Hospital, On Tues-
day afternoon, Mrs, Yeo and. El-
eanor will attend: a. tea given in
hOnor of the new students end
their mothers.
