Miss Joyce Hell entertained re-
latives and a few friends (about
30 women and girls) on Saturday
evening in honour of Miss Joan
McClinchey, Varna, a bride-elect
of this month. A. surprise grocery
shower was held at the home of
Mr, and Mrs. Charles Bell, Hay-
field Terrace,
' After the guests had assembled
Donald Bell brought his fiancee
to the house and escorted her to
a special chair decorated in pink
and blue. Janis Galbraith and
Ellen Lindsay carried the gifts in
a basket decorated in pink, blue
and white and Janis made an in-
formal speech of presentation.
Miss McClinchey opened the
gifts and thanked all for the gen-
erous supply for her larder and
kitchen.
A most enjoyable evening was
spent in games, contests and char-
ades and bingo under the direc-
tion of Miss Bell. There was also
a draw for a prize, a box of pow-
der, won •by Mrs. James Hutch-
ings.
Mrs. Charles Bell was assisted
by Mrs. George Heard, Mrs. Jam-
es Hutchings and her daughters,
Mrs. Alan Galbraith and Joyce
Bell M serving lunch.
Smith was in the chair and open-
ed the meeting with the WA mot-
to said in unison. The hymn was
'What a Friend We Have in Jesus'
The secretary, Mrs. Charles
Bell, read the minutes, and the
treasurer, Miss E. 3. Stirling pre-
sented her report which showed a
good balance from the fund-rais-
ing activities of the summer—.
July 1, supper, bazaar and bake
sales.
This was followed by the busi-
ness session,
Mrs. Lindsay Smith gave a rea-
ding entitled "A Mother of Bal-
ance" after which she closed the
meeting with prayer.

an oil survey of Lake Huron, They

of her son and his wife, Mr, and

Mrs. Brisson has been visiting

ing to her home in California. A
family reunion dinner was held at
St, Joseph on August 30.
Mrs, Gilbert Knight who has
been at her home on Louisa St-
reet for the month of August, had
with her last week Mrs. Ronald
Knight and baby Heather, Mrs.
Derrick Finch and two children,
Mrs. Art Lattimer, Billy and Gill,
Gilbert Knight, son Ronald and
son-in-law Arthur Lattimer join-
ed them for the weekend, Mr.
and Mrs. Ron Knight and baby
left on Sunday and the others re-
turned to their respective homes
in Toronto on Tuesday.

with the former's parents, Mr.

On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Sager, Clare, Nicky and Tommy,
Goderich, visited her parents and
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner, Gay-
le and Phillip joined them for a
family dinner on Sunday, Tom Ar-
kell and family leave for New
Orleans where as a mechanical
engineer, he will work on a new
Dow project there for the next
six months,

By-law No. 11 for the Township of Stanley ..,
in the County of Huron
A BY-LAW TO RAISE $100,000.00 TO AID IN THE
CONSTRUCTION OF TILE, STONE OR
TIMBER DRAINS.
The Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Township of
Stanley of the County of Huron, pursuant to The Tile Drainage Act,
enacts as follows: -
1, That the Reeve may from time to time, subject to the provisions
of this by-law, borrow on the credit of the corporation of the
Municipality such sums not exceeding in the whole One Hundred
Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) as may be determined by the
Council, and may in manner hereinafter provided, issue debent-
ures of the corporation in such sums as the Council may deem
proper for the amount so borrowed, with coupons attached as
provided in section 4 of the said Act.
2. That, subject to section 10 of The Tile Drainage Act, when the
Council is of opinion that the application of any person to borrow
money for the purpose of construction a tile, stone or timber
drain should be granted in whole or in part, the Council may, by
resolution, direct the Reeve to issue debentures as aforesaid and
to borrow a sum not exceeding the amount applied for, and may
lend the same to the applicant on the completion of the drainage
work. .
3. A special -annual rate shall be imposed, levied and collected over
and above all other rates upon, the land in respect of which the
money is borrowed, sufficient for the payment of the principal
and interest as provided by the Act.

by the Council of the Township of Stanley on the first day of Septem-
ber 1959, and all persons are required to take notice that anyone who
desires to apply to have the bylaw or any part thereof quashed must
serve notice on his application upon the Reeve or Clerk of this muni-
cipality within 20 days after the date of the last publication of this
notice, and must make his application to the Supreme Court of On-
tario within one month after the said date. This notice was first
published on the 10th day of September, 1959, and the last publication
will be on the 24th day of September, 1959.

Cathy MacLeod who has spent
the summer with her grandmoth-
er, Mrs. L. H. D, MacLeod, re-
turned to her home In London on
Sunday. She accompanied her
grandmother and Miss Dorothy
Ann MacLeod, Mr. and Mrs, Car-
son Fawcett and Nancy when
they went to visit her grandfath-
er at Westminster Hospital,
Miss Rubie Fisher who has been
with the Misses A. M, and E,
Stirling for two weeks, returned
to Kitchener on Monday evening
with her nephew, James Fisher
and family after spending the sea-
son at their cottage.
"Binnie" Sturgeon is a lucky
lad. He held the winning ticket
for the boat trailer, boat and out-
board motor, in the draw at the
Lions Club parade in Goderich on
Monday, It is now in the yard at
the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Sturgeon, Jr, Bern-
ard is 18 and a student at CDCI.
Mrs. George Simons and Dawn
returned to Georgina Island on
Thursday after spending a few
days with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Cohn Campbell. Her niece,
Peggy Campbell, accompanied
them for a two week's visit.
Mr, and Mrs. E. W. Kendall,
Jane and John, Elmira, and Mrs.
W. R. Jowett, Goderich, spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy
Poth. Ronald Poth returned to
Toronto on Monday after a vaca-
tion with his parents, Mr. and
