A number of young men left for
the Canadian west last week:
Alex Ostrom, Gerald Rathwell and
Graham Postill left on Sunday
and Ronnie Coleman and Jack
Coleman left on Monday..
Services in the United. Church
next Sunday. August 30, will he

pastor Rev. T, J, Pitt in charge.
Rev, and Mrs. Pitt have been hol-
idaying in Newfoundland during
the past month and are returning
home this week,
Miss Joan McClymont has re-
turned from King City, where she
has spent the holidays,
Preparations are being made to
hold the 60th anniversary of the
United Church on the last Sun-
day of September.

team defeated Seaforth YPU 14-
13 in a game here on Monday ev-
ening,
Robert R. McAllister
The many friends in this dis-
trict were sorry to hear of the
sudden passing of Robert (Robin)
McAllister, prominent farmer of
Stanley Township, who died sud-
denly at his home. Thursday ev-
ening, August 13, following a
stroke. He was in his 65th year.
Mr. McAllister had attended the
Hensel]. Sales that same afternoon
in Hensel] and seemed in the best
of health and spirits,
Mr. McAllister had spent his
entire life in this community, be-
ing born on the Parr Line, Hay
Township, on April 6, 1895, and
lived there until 1920 when he
moved to his present home in Stan-
ley township. He was the elder
son of the late William McAl-
lister and Elizabeth Wilson.
He was a lifelong member of
the former Hillsgreen United'
Church where he served on the
Board of Managers for many
years. At. the time of his death
he was a member of Kipper). Un-
ited Church,
In 1916 he married Mary Bell
Consitt who survives„ along with
two daughters, (Jeanette) Mrs.
Ralph Turner, land (Ruth) Mrs.
Murvin Johnston, Stanley town-
ship, and one brother, Jim Mc-
Allister, RR 1, Zurich, and four
grandchildren.
Public funeral services were
held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
from Bonthron funeral chapel
Hensall, and were conducted by
Rev. D. A. McMillan, minister of
Kippen Church, with interment
in Baird's Cemetery,
Pallbearers were six nephews,
Ian McAllister, Glen Goff, Ken-
neth Parke, Mel Graham, Tom
and Bill Consitt. Flowerbearers
were Bob Madge, Ward Forrest,
Anson Coleman, Harvey Coleman,
Earl Love, Harold Reichert, Carl
Reichart, Elmer Turner, Wilmer
Turner, Herbert Stephenson, Clar-
ence Stephenson and Alf John-
ston,
Friends attended the funeral
from Detroit, Port Huron, Mar-
lette, Applegate, Peck, Michigan;
London and Toronto.

Achievement Day
Aug. 25 in Wingham
Throughout Huron County 4-H
Home Garden Club Members have
almost completed their summer
project and are looking forward
to the Achievement Days to be
held on August 25, at the Wing-
ham District High School; on
August 26, at Blyth Memorial
Hall and on August 27 at the Sea,-
forth District High School.
All summer the 4-H Home
Gardeners have been keeping a
garden containing 20 different
varieties of vegetables, six differ-
ent varieties of flowers and as
well have been attending Garden
Club Meetings and carrying on
special Home Improvement Pro-
jects to complete the require-
ments of the club.
At Achievement Day the girls
will be exhibiting their record
books, five kinds of vegetables
and a bouquet of flowers from
their club garden, As well they
will judge two classes of vegetab-
les and give oral reasons as well
as answering a Garden Quiz, The
afternoon program consists of
Third Year Members Special Pro-
jects and comments, club exhibits
and comments, demonstrations
and skits all presented by the
club members themselves.
To finalize the afternoon pro-
gram certificates and awards will
be presented to all members com-
pleting the project satisfactorily.

Mrs. Harry Norris
The death occurred Tuesday
night, August 18, of Mrs, Harry
Norris, 07, in Seat Memorial
Hospital, Seaforth, after an ill-
ness of five days.
She was born in Fullerton
township, attended school. at $S
5, Fullerton, and was a member
of Cromarty Presbyterian Chtlr-
ch. She was the former Emma
A. McPherson, and was married
in Winnipeg,
She is survived by her husband;
four sons, BOY, Toronto; Hugh
and Robert, Cromarty; John, Ail-
sa Craig; eight daughters, Mrs.
Harley (Winona) Jacobi, Kippen;
Mrs. William (Beryl) Storey,
Seaforth; Mrs. Donald (Hazel)
McLeod, Ailsa Craig; Mrs, John
(Margaret) MacDonald, Strat-
ford; Mrs. Orval (Lila) Storey,
Seaforth; Mrs. Ray (Dorothy)
Davis, Belton; Mrs. Hugh (Don-
na) Flynn, Londesboro; Mrs. Ro-
bert (Celia) Hubert, Cromarty;
by 31 grandchildren,
Funeral was on Friday, August
21, from the G. A, Whitney fun-
eral home, Seaforth, with Rev. C.
D. Henderson in charge. Burial
was in Staffa cemetery.

Thomas Edgar East
Funeral service was conducted
on Tuesday afternoon, August 25,
in the Morris funeral home, Wind-
sor, for Thomas Edgar East, who
passed away on August 22, fol-
lowing an accident in which he
was struck by a ear on the Huron
Line.
Born in Parkhill, Mr, East had
lived in Windsor area since 1927.
He was retired from being a fore-
man at Chrysler Corporation. Mr.
East belonged to Westminster
United Church, was on the Board
of Stewards, past president of the
church choir, and active in other
musical circles: the Border Scot-
tish Choir and the male ensemble
of Windsor.
Surviving besides his wife, Mar-
ie Jackson East, are two sons, R.
Jackson and Raymond E., both of
Amherstburg ;two brothers, Roy
and Carl, both of Toronto; one
sister, Mrs. Gordon Cuninghame,
Clinton, and three grandchildren,
The Rev. J. Y. McGookin con-
ducted the service, and interment
was in Victoria Memorial Ceme-
tery. In lieu of flowers, request
was made for donations to be sent
to the Canadian Cancer Society.
W. L. Johnston
Burial service was held at Dun-
gannon on Sunday, August 23,
for William L. Johnston, 62, Luck-
now, who died in Westminster
Hospital, London. He was a re-
tired merchant, and formerly
farmed in the Lucknow area.
Surviving are his wife, form-
erly Grace Plunkett; two broth-
ers, Wilbert, Auburn, and How-
ard, Ashfield township; two sis-
ters, Mrs. Harry Watson, Aub-
urn and Mrs. Russell Thompson,
Clinton. Service was from the
McLennan and MacKenzie funer-
al home, Lucknow, with burial in
Dungannon cemetery.
