Mr. and Mrs. William Coates, Flint, Mich., are visiting with the lady's sisters, Mrs. Maitland Al- len, and Mrs, William J. Craig, this week Presbyterian Picnic Knox Presbyterian Church with the Sabbath School united with Blyth. St. Andrew's Presbyterian congregation for the annual picnic at Blyth Lions Club park. Supper was served to 85 in the basement of the church on account of the weather. Races were conducted in the park under the committee of Edgar Leatherland, Misses Helen Youngblut and Kathleen Andrews and Mrs: Wes Bradnock. Contests followed and the evening was closed with a ball game. Horticulture Meeting Mrs. Bert Craig presided for the horticulture executive meet- ing Monday evening in the Aube urn. Public Library. Miss Elma Mutch read the minutes of the previous meeting which were ap- proved as read. She read a paper on the treatment of cut flowers. A list of guest speakers for Dis- trict 8 was also read. Reports on the different flower- beds were given by ,those in char- ge. The beautiful Manchester Garden is ablaze with color now and perennials are gradually be- ing added to keep this park al- ways in bloom. Plans were made for an open meeting to be on September 3, with guests who will give a demonstration on flower arrangement. Rev, and Mrs. Funge attended the induction of Rev. Richmond Stewart in the United Church, Riverside, on Wednesday even- ing. Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong accompanied by Mr. .and Mrs James Armstrong are enjoying a motor trip to Hamilton and Pet- erboro this week. Mrs. Douglas Radford who has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Radford for the past three weeks has returned to her home in Niagara, Miss Della Letlock and Mrs. Daisy Devlin residents of Perth were visitors with .Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wells for the past two weeks, The ladies are cousins of Mrs. Wells. Mr. and Mrs. George Hicks, Centralia, spent Wednesday with Alex Wells. James Marshall also spent Saturday with the cousins and sister Mrs. Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Israel and family, Kitchener, attended the Hope Chapel Centennial, also vis- iting with Fred Prest on Sunday. The Women's Institute was well attended last Thursday. After the usual business, Mrs. Rita Little gave a fine demonstration on the use of cosmetics. E. Beecher Menzies gave an interesting talk on the making of wills. A penny sale will be conducted at the September meeting, the first half of the members on the roll call contributing the articles for sale. Hope Chapel Under ideal summer skies, the centennial service at Hope Chap- el, 13th concession of Hullett was well attended on Sunday after- noon. Rev. William Fingland, M.A., D.D., Niagara assisted by Rev. Henry Funge, Londesboro, gave a splendid address, "They should not be forgotten". Other speakers included Charles Mc- Naugton, M.P.P., Exeter; William Jewitt, Warden of Huron County and Judge F. Fingland, Clinton. A choir led by Mrs. Alan Shaddick assisted by Mrs. W. Van Egmond, with her accordian rend- ered a fitting number. Each entrance was adorned with beautiful baskets of gladioli, donated by Mrs. Clifford Epps, Clinton. The interior was decor- ated with flowers contributed by friends in the community. The Bower committee under the direc- tion of Henry Hunking, secret- ary-treasurer, wishes to thank ev- eryone who helped in any way to make the event a success. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Straughan, Goderich; Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, Weiner Roast Is Enjoyed by Youths An enjoyable evening was spent Thursday, July 23, when the Bap- tist Youth Fellowship group and the Presbyterian Young People held a weiner roast on the school grounds of SS 4 Goderich Town- ship. Before rain fell, several in- nings of softball were played. In- doors (after 'some games) a song service was held, concluding with prayer. After lunch, Kathryn Blacker ex- pressed the thanks of the Presby terian young folk. The evening closed with the singing of Taps and the Mizpah Benediction. 0 Robert Nephew Buys Maclaren's Photo Business MacLaren's Studio, 106 St. David Street, Goderich, has been sold by Mrs. Mary MacLaren to Robert J. Nephew, a native of Dunnville. Mr, Nephew is a graduate of Ryersoh Institute of Technology, Toronto, where he took a three- year course at the School of Photo- graphic Arts. Following this, he operated a studio in Dunnville for five years. For the past three years, he has been a photographer with the RCAF. Married, Mr. Nephew has two sons, The business will continue to operate under the name Madan- en's Studio, and at the same loca- tion as in the past. IVIacLarents Studio was founded by the late Bari Mactaren, who operated it for about 11 years, un- til his death soent time ago, Lucknow, visited with Mr. arid Mrs, Willows Mountain on Sun- day evening after spending the day at the Lawson reunion in Goderich. Visitors with Mrs. Lily Webster recently were Harry Webster, Mrs. Barr and Miss Fanny Cole. Farewell Party Mr, and Mrs. Maitland Allen gave a farewell party for Harvey McGee last Saturday evening, Mr. McGee returned to his home at North Bay, after a visit here of three weeks, Those present were; Mrs. Luella Phillips and Fred Phillips, Mitchell; Archie Robinson; Clinton; Miss Helen Phillips, Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs, V. Sow and Hoe iThe Auburn 4-H Garden Club met at the home of the assistant leader, Mrs, Ed. Davies, for their final meeting. Barbara Baechler, president was in charge. Carolyn Clark read the minutes. Leader, Mrs. Audrey Machan, discussed Achievement Day, which is to be held in Blyth, August 26. A gar- den quiz followed and the mem- bers judged beets and placed them. A weiner roast was plan- ned. In Maryland Mr. and Mrs. George Milian and his son Charles Millian and Mrs. Milian were on a trip re- ently to Washington, They at- tended church services at Rock- ville, Maryland, at the beautiful Millian Memorial Methodist Chur- ch there,' built in affectionate memory of the late Reverend Dr. John Curry Milian, who was Mr. George Millian's brother. The late Dr. Millian was born in Col- borne township, and received his early education in these parts. This beautiful church was filled to capacity at both the morning services.
